Clinical Experiences of the Application of Polymethylmethacrylate (Artecoll)

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of polymethylmethacrylate(artecoll) for wrinkles and contour refining. Methods:Artecoll(main component:polymethylmethacrylate) was injected in 463 patients for 1 162 positions as wrinkle reduction and contour refining from December 2004 to August 2007. Patients were photographed before and right after the injection,one week,3 months,12 months and 24 months after the injection. Pictures were evaluated by two independent boardcertified dermatologists to get the objective variables. Subjective variables were recorded via completion of a survey. Results:All patients had a positive effect of different degree immediately. The effective rates were 98.1%. The comprehensively score was 3.78(1 week),2.91(3 months),2.82(12 months),2.79(24 months),and their effective rates were 97.1%,68.3%,64.3%,63.0%. No severe complications such as granuloma,allergic reaction,or infection were found after the injection. Conclusion:Artecoll is an efficient and safe permanent dermal filler.
