Abstract:A fixed point theorem is used to study a singular second order three-point boundary value problem. The problem is more general. Combining the method of constructing Green functions with operators defined piecewise, the existence result of positive solutions to a singular second order three-point boundary value problem is established. Abstract:In this paper, the fixed point theory combined with a monotone iterative technique is used to investigate the unique positive solution of a boundary problem for nth-order nonlinear impulsive singular integro-differential equations of mixed type on an infinite interval in a Banach space. The conditions for the existence of a unique positive solution are established. In addition, an explicit iterative sequence for approximating the solution of the boundary value problem is derived together with an error estimate. Furthermore, the conditions of the theorems can be easily verified.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate nonlinear second-order double impulsive differential equations integral boundary value problem with p-Laplacian on an infinite interval with the infinite number of impulsive times. Based on the cone theory and monotone iterative technique, we establish the existence of minimal nonnegative solution and iteration of positive solutions for such a boundary value problem. The main results are new and extend the existing results. At last, some examples are worked out to demonstrate the use of the main results.

Abstract:We consider the existence of positive solutions for the following fourth-order singular Sturm–Liouville eigenvalue problems{1p(t)(p(t)u‴(t))′−λg(t)F(t,u,u″)=0,0<t<1,α1u(0)−β1u′(0)=0,γ1u(1)+δ1u′(1)=0,α2u″(0)−β2limt→0+p(t)u‴(t)=0,γ2u″(1)+δ2limt→1−p(t)u‴(t)=0, where λ>0, g,p may be singular at t=0 and/or 1. Moreover, F(t,x,y) may also have singularity at x=0 and/or y=0. By using fixed point theory in cones, an explicit interval for λ is derived such that for any λ in this interval, the existence of at least one positive solution to the boundary value problem is guaranteed. Our results extend and improve many known results including singular and nonsingular cases.

Abstract:Structure of nonnegative nontrivial and positive solutions was precisely studied for some singularly perturbed p-Laplace equations. By virtue of sub- and supersolution method, it is shown that there are many nonnegative nontrivial spike-layer solutions and positive intermediate spike-layer solutions. Moreover, the upper and lower bound on the measure of each spike-layer solutions. Moreover, the upper and lower bound on the measure of each spike-layer were estimated when the parameter is sufficiently small.

Abstract:Existence and uniqueness results for large positive solutions are obtained for a class of quasilinear elliptic eigenvalue problems in general bounded smooth domains via a generalization of a sweeping principle of Serrin. The nonlinear terms of the problems can be negative in some intervals. The existence and structure of a mountain pass solution are also discussed. We show that this solution develops to a spike layer solution.

Topological Methods in Nonlinear Analysis

Abstract:We prove new results on the existence of positive solutions of one-dimensional $p$-Laplacian equations under sublinear conditions involving the first eigenvalues of the corresponding homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problems. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper to use fixed point index theory of compact maps to give criteria involving the first eigenvalue for one-dimensional $p$-Laplacian equations with $p\ne 2$. Our results generalize some previous results where either $p$ is required to be greater than $2$ or the nonlinearities satisfy stronger conditions. We shall apply our results to tackle a logistic population model arising in mathematical biology.

Abstract:The existence of positive solutions to p-Laplace nonlinear elliptic system with Dirichlet boundary conditions is investigated.First,with the symmetry of the p-Laplace system and Mountain Pass Theorem,the form solution to the corresponding single equation of the original system is obtained and its positiveness is proved.The positive sup-solution to the original system is obtained.Second,the appropriate mapping is structured with the solution to decoupled system in the intervals of sub-super solutions.Finally,with the Leray-Schauder's fixed point theorem,the existence of positive solutions is obtained.
