Abstract:The problem of stability analysis for switched linear systems is studied based on the properties of the quadratic form. With the introduction of energy velocity matrix and negative definite space, sufficient conditions for asymptotical stability, instability under arbitrary switching sequence and asymptotical stability under special switching sequence are reached which can be applied to study some types of switched linear systems. These conditions can be applied not only to study the problem of stability analysis for switched linear systems, but also to design the stable switching sequence for a switched linear system. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed methods.

Abstract:The problem of robust quadratic stabilization for a class of uncertain linear dynamic systems with time-delays in both state and control is discussed in this paper. The uncertain time-delay systems under consideration are described by state differential equations with unknown-but-bounded uncertain parameters that are confined into convex polyhedrons. A new necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of quadratically stabilizing control law and the corresponding synthesis method are derived, the results are given in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract:We consider the quadratic stabilization of switched linear systems when a switching strategy is added on the state feedback controllers or on the output feedback controllers of subsystems. Two sufficient conditions are established respectively to guarantee the quadratic stabilization for both cases. For state feedback case, these two sufficient conditions are also necessary when there are only two subsystems. In particular, for planar case, it is shown that the quadratic stabilization problem reduces to the verification of two linear independent input matrices and a method is given to design the concrete state feedback gain matrices. For output feedback case, a necessary condition on the quadratic stabilization problem is also given by the concept of fixed modes. For both cases, we propose the switching rules by using the obtained feedback gain matrices and an associated positive definite matrix.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of quadratic stabilization of multi-input multi-output switched nonlinear systems under an arbitrary switching law is investigated. When switched nonlinear systems have uniform normal form and the zero dynamics of uniform normal form is asymptotically stable under an arbitrary switching law, state feedbacks are designed and a common quadratic Lyapunov function of all the closed-loop subsystems is constructed to realize quadratic stabilizability of the class of switched nonlinear systems under an arbitrary switching law. The results of this paper are also applied to switched linear systems.

Abstract:This paper presents a condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems. With Matlab, it is very convenient to solve this problem. Necessity shows that the condition is less conservative in some cases. The illustrative example shows that this method is effective to check the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems.

Abstract:This paper presents a necessary and sufficient condition for the quadratic stability of dynamic interval systems. The result is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) and extended to cover robust stability of linear systems with uncertain parameters. With the powerful LMI toolbox, it is very convenient to solve this problem. The illustrative examples show that this method is effective and less conservative to check the robust stability of interval systems.

Abstract:For the wide existence of time-delays and uncertainties in real systems,the quadratic stability and stabilization problem of discrete interval 2-D systems with time-delays described by the Fornasini-Marchesini second local state-space model is addressed.According to the Lyapunov theory,based on LMI(linear matrix inequality) technique,sufficient conditions are derived for the quadratic stability and stabilization of the systems.The results are obtained in terms of LMIs.By solving a corresponding LMI,the quadratic stability and stabilization of the system can be determined and a quadratic stabilizing controller can be obtained.The numerical example shows that this method is effective to design the quadratic stabilizing controller for discrete interval 2-D systems with time-delays.

Abstract:The problem of stability analysis for a class of switched linear systems is studied in this paper based on the properties of matrix measure. The matrix measures of all subsystems are used to determine the stability of the switched linear systems. Based on this, sufficient conditions are reached, which can be used to determine the stability or instability of switched linear systems under arbitrary switching law. If a switching sequence satisfies some conditions, a theorem in this paper can be used to verify if it can stabilize the systems. The obtained conditions are simpler than the reported methods such as multi-Lyapunov functions and hence are easier to check. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate these conditions.

Abstract:A switching system always comprises of several subsystems and a rule supervising the switching between the subsystems. A major problem that is often inherent to all dynamical systems is actuator saturation. Saturation is a nonlinear property that nonlinearly maps small input signals to the output, which may affect the system properties and even destroy them. In this study, stability and stabilization of a class of switched stochastic systems with saturation control was investigated. First, the variation parameter method was used to present the integral form of switched stochastic systems. Second, to guarantee that the zero solution is globally exponentially stable in mean square, two sufficient conditions were obtained using direct computation with Gronwall inequality and indirect method with matrix theory, respectively. Further, another simple sufficient condition was obtained for the stability of the systems using the row norm, column norm, and Frobenius norm. Finally, two examples were used to illustrate the preciseness and effectiveness of the results. Moreover, various control designs were observed to stabilize the systems, which differ from the technique of linear matrix inequalities.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the problem of stabilization for single-input planar discrete-time switched systems by establishing necessary and/or sufficient conditions for the existence of switched quadratic Lyapunov functions of the closed-loop system. The results given in terms of a series of matrix inequalities generalize those results in our recent paper [Y.G. Sun, L. Wang, G. Xie, Necessary and sufficient conditions for stabilization of discrete-time planar switched systems, Nonlinear Anal.: Theory and Methods 65 (2006) 1039–1049] and clearly describe the set of switched quadratic Lyapunov functions for the system.

Two different linear matrix inequality-based conditions are given which guarantee the existence of a switched quadratic Lyapunov function for asymptotic stability of the switched systems under consideration. The obtained linear matrix inequality conditions can also be used to solve the control synthesis problem.

Abstract:Aimed at discrete switched systems with time-delay subsystems,a method was proposed to analyze the system stability and feedback stabilization.Switched systems with time-delay were converted into switched systems without time-delay by state vector transformation.The synthesis problem in the form of bilinear matrix inequalities(BMI) was transferred into convex optimal problem in the form of linear matrix inequalities(LMI) by adding equation constraint in the systems. Based on the asymptotic stability theory under arbitrary switching signals for discrete linear switched systems,the sufficient condition for asymptotic stability of discrete switched systems with time delay was given in the form of LMI.A state feedback stabilization method and an output feedback stabilization method were designed respectively.Two illustrative example results show that the method is feasible,and that the closed-loop system under the proposed method is asymptotically stabile.

Abstract:In this article, the partition of state space is investigated based on the average dwell time theory, and a novel switching condition is proposed. Under the switching condition and strategy, a switched system where all subsystems are unstable is globally exponentially stabilized. Compared with the existing literature, the conclusion is less conservative and more general. Consequently, the conditions appropriate for this exponential stability issue are derived and a computational procedure to solve the bilinear matrix inequality problems and admissible average dwell time is provided. Finally, two numerical examples are used to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:Quadratic stabilisation via state and output feedback for continuous-time switched linear systems is studied with the use of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. LMI-based conditions are established for both a state feedback case and an observer-based output feedback case. Under these conditions, the switched linear systems are quadratically stabilisable via either a state-based or a measurable output-based switching strategy. A sufficient and necessary LMI-based condition is also obtained for the state feedback case when there are only two subsystems in the switched linear systems. These results are extended to uncertain switched systems.

By quadratic programming, the optimal controller of fixed order we have got can stabi-lize the system with maximum infinite norm of the uncertain system parameter vector. Abstract:This paper studies the stabilization control synthesis of switched symmetric systems. The main contribution includes two parts. First, a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of asymptotic stable output feedback controller of symmetric switched linear systems under arbitrary switching signal is established. It is also pointed that if the condition holds, constant controller can be used as well. Next, a sufficient condition for existence of output feedback controller for quadratic stabilizability of switched symmetric systems is established.
