Abstract:Based on the Ward-Takahashi identity at finite chemical potential and Lorentz structure analysis, we generalize the Ball-Chiu vertex to the case of nonzero chemical potential and obtain the general form of the fermion-boson vertex in QED at finite chemical potential.

Abstract:Based on the rainbow-ladder approximation of the Dyson–Schwinger equations and the assumption of the analyticity of the fermion-boson vertex in the neighborhood of zero chemical potential (μ = 0) and neglecting the μ-dependence of the dressed gluon propagator, we apply the method in [Phys. Rev. C 71 (2005) 015205] of studying the dressed quark propagator at finite chemical potential to prove that the general fermion-boson vertex at finite μ can also be obtained from the one at μ = 0 by a simple shift of variables. Using this result we extend the results of [Phys. Lett. B 420 (1998) 267] to the situation of finite chemical potential and show that under the approximations we have taken, the Gell–Mann–Oakes–Renner relation also holds at finite chemical potential.

Abstract:In equilibrium statistical field theory, the partition function has fundamental importance. In this paper we propose a direct and general method for calculating the partition function and equation of state of QCD at finite chemical potential. It is found that the partition function is totally determined by the dressed quark propagator at finite chemical potential up to a multiplicative constant. From this a criterion for the phase transition between the Nambu and the Wigner phases is obtained. This general method is applied to two specific cases: the free quark theory and QCD with a model dressed quark propagator having confinement features. In the first case, the standard Fermi distribution at T = 0 is reproduced. In the second case, we apply the conclusion in previous works to obtain the dressed quark propagator at finite chemical potential and find the unphysical result that the baryon number density vanishes for all values of chemical potential. The reason for this result is discussed.

Abstract:In this Letter, we generalize our previous work [H.T. Feng, F.Y. Hou, X. He, W.M. Sun, H.S. Zong, Phys. Rev. D 73 (2006) 016004] on the effect of finite chemical potential μ on the fermion propagator in QED3 from the rainbow approximation (bare vertex approximation) of the Dyson–Schwinger approach to the case of an improved fermion–photon vertex ansatz. We show that, for this choice of the fermion–photon vertex the fermion propagator at finite chemical potential can still be written as Sˆ−1(μ,p)=iγ⋅p˜A(p˜2)+B(p˜2), where p˜=(p→,p3+iμ) and S−1(p)=iγ⋅pA(p2)+B(p2) is the fermion propagator at μ=0. By application of this result, the fermion chiral condensate is evaluated for the range N∈[0,3.0] (N denotes the number of fermion flavors) and μ∈[0,10−2] and the influence of small chemical potential on the critical number of fermion flavors Nc is analyzed. A comparison with the rainbow approximation results is made.

Abstract:We propose a new method for calculating the dressed fermion propagator at finite chemical potential in QED(3) under the rainbow approximation of Dyson-Schwinger equation. In the above approximation, we show that the dressed fermion propagator at finite chemical potential mu has the form (S) over cap (p) = i gamma center dot pA( p(2)) + B (p(2)) with p(mu), = ((p) over right arrow, p3 + i mu). Using this form of fermion propagator at nonzero chemical. potential, we investigate the Dyson-Schwinger equation for the dressed fermion propagator at finite chemical potential and study the effects of the chemical potential on the critical number of the fermion flavors.

Abstract:bstract In the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) approach, we propose a chemical potential dependent effective gluon propagator and the quark gap equation is solved with such a gluon propagator. It is found for the first time in DSE approach that with light current quark mass m ≠ 0, the Wigner solution will appear at some chemical potential μ W . Based on this, the chiral phase transition at finite chemical potential is studied and the result shows that it is a first-order phase transition. The results are compared with the known results in the literature.
On the Photon-Fermion Vertex

Abstract:The QED Dyson-Schwinger equation for the photon-fermion one-particle irreducible Green function, the photon-fermion vertex, is investigated using a Ball-Chiu description for its longitudinal part, together with the Kızılersu-Reenders-Pennington basis for its transverse part. Exact expressions for all the transverse form factors are derived from the vertex Dyson-Schwinger equation. Furthermore, feeding the Dyson-Schwinger equation with a simplified vertex that goes beyond the perturbative solution, some of the results of the one-loop perturbative calculation are recovered in a more general framework. The approach allows also exact results for the on-shell vertex, that encode the anomalous magnetic and electric fermion couplings, and for its soft photon limit. The investigation of the chiral limit of the photon-fermion vertex shows that a limited number of transverse form factors are required, a result that, once more, is in good agreement with a one-loop calculation for QED but that appears in a more general framework. The results derived for the photon-fermion vertex can be extended easily to the quark-gluon vertex after proper modifications.

Similar relations hold for any other type of quark-meson vertex. This feature would facilitate the numerical calculations of the quark-meson vertex function at finite M considerably. Based on these results and using the dressed quark propagator at A = 0 proposed in [R. Alkofer, W. Detmold, C. S. Fischer, and P. Maris, Phys. Rev. D 70, 014014 (2004)], we calculate the pion decay constant f(pi) and the pion mass m(pi) at finite mu and a comparison of our results with those in the literature is made.

Abstract:By employing some modification to the normal NJL model, we discuss the Wigner solution of quark gap equation at finite temperature and chemical potential when the current quark mass m is nonzero. The discovery of the coexistence of the Nambu solution and the Wigner solution at finite temperature and chemical potential beyond the chiral limit is of great importance in the study of the chiral phase transition of QCD. Using the pressure difference between Nambu phase and Wigner phase (or in other words, the bag constant) as an order parameter for chiral phase transition, we draw a possible phase diagram based on our calculations.
Fermi Liquid near a q=0 Charge Quantum Critical Point

Abstract:We analyze the quasiparticle interaction function (the fully dressed and antisymmetrized interaction between fermions) for a two-dimensional Fermi liquid at zero temperature close to a q=0 charge quantum critical point (QCP) in the $s-$wave channel. By the Ward identities, this vertex function must be related to quasiparticle residue $Z$, which can be obtained independently from the fermionic self-energy. We show that to satisfy these Ward identities, one needs to go beyond the standard diagrammatic formulation of Fermi liquid theory and include series of additional contributions to the vertex function. These contributions are forbidden in a conventional Fermi liquid, but do emerge near a QCP, where the effective 4-fermion interaction is mediated by a soft dynamical boson. We demonstrate explicitly that including these terms restores the Ward identity. We also discuss the role of Aslamazov-Larkin-type diagrams for the vertex function. Our analysis is built on works on the vertex function near an antiferromagnetic QCP [Phys. Rev. B 89, 045108 (2014)] and a d-wave charge-nematic QCP [Phys. Rev. B 81, 045110 (2010)]. We show that for $s-$wave charge QCP (the one leading to phase separation), the analysis is more straightforward. We also discuss the structure of the Landau function in a critical Fermi liquid near a QCP.

Abstract:The diquark structure in baryons is commonly accepted as a reasonable approximation which can much simplify the picture of baryons and reduce the length of calculations. However, a diquark by no means is a point-like particle, even though it is treated as a whole object. Therefore, to apply the diquark picture to phenomenological calculations, at the effective vertices for the diquark-gauge-boson interactions, suitable form factors must be introduced to compensate the effects caused by the inner structure of the diquark. It is crucial to derive the appropriate form factors for various interactions. In this work, we use the Bethe-Salpeter equation to derive such form factors and numerically evaluate their magnitudes. Our results not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively confirm the form factors phenomenologically introduced in literature.

Abstract:In this letter we propose a new method of calculating the equation of state (EOS) of quasi-particle model of quark-gluon plasma at finite chemical potential. In the quasi-particle model the quark propagator has the form of a free quark propagator with a temperature and density dependent effective mass. From this quark propagator the EOS at finite chemical potential is calculated using the model-independent formula proposed in Refs. 16 and 17. A comparison between our EOS and the cold, perturbative EOS of QCD proposed in Ref. 23 is made.

Abstract:Properties of QCD at finite imaginary chemical potential are revisited to utilize for the model building of QCD in low energy regimes. For example, the electric holonomy which is closely related to the Polyakov-loop drastically affects thermodynamic quantities beside the Roberge-Weiss transition line. To incorporate several properties at finite imaginary chemical potential, it is important to introduce the holonomy effects to the coupling constant of effective models. This extension is possible by considering the entanglement vertex. We show justifications of the entanglement vertex based on the derivation of the effective four-fermi interaction in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model and present its general form with the local approximation. To discuss how to remove model ambiguities in the entanglement vertex, we calculate the chiral condensate with different $\mathbb{Z}_3$ sectors and the dual quark condensate.

Abstract:Using quasiparticle models and imposing thermodynamic consistency, lattice data for the equation of state of deconfined QCD can be mapped to finite chemical potential. We consider a refinement of existing simple massive quasiparticle models using the nonlocal hard-thermal-loop propagators, and certain next-to-leading-order corrections thereof, to obtain the thermodynamic potential as a function of temperature and chemical potential. At small chemical potential we find that the results for the slope of constant pressure from our main model for two massless quark flavors is in good agreement with recent lattice data for 2+1 flavors while it deviates somewhat from lattice data for two flavors from another group. For zero temperature, we obtain an estimate for the critical chemical potential which is close to that obtained from simpler quasiparticle models.

Abstract:We study relativistic fermionic systems in 3 + 1 spacetime dimensions at finite chemical potential and zero temperature, from a path-integral point of view. We show how to properly account for the iε term that projects on the finite density ground state, and compute the path integral analytically for free fermions in homogeneous external backgrounds, using complex analysis techniques. As an application, we show that the U(1) symmetry is always linearly realized for free fermions at finite charge density, differently from scalars. We study various aspects of finite density QED in a homogeneous magnetic background. We compute the free energy density, non-perturbatively in the electromagnetic coupling and the external magnetic field, obtaining the finite density generalization of classic results of Euler-Heisenberg and Schwinger. We also obtain analytically the magnetic susceptibility of a relativistic Fermi gas at finite density, reproducing the de Haas-van Alphen effect. Finally, we consider a (generalized) Gross-Neveu model for N interacting fermions at finite density. We compute its non-perturbative effective potential in the large- N limit, and discuss the fate of the U(1) vector and axial symmetries.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a new method for calculating the response of the quark condensate to the chemical potential. Based on the method of calculating the dressed-quark propagator at finite chemical potential in the framework of the rainbow-ladder approximation of the Dyson-Schwinger approach proposed in [H. S. Zong, L. Chang, F. Y. Hou, W. M. Sun, and Y. X. Liu, Phys. Rev. C 71, 015205 (2005).] and adopting the meromorphic form of the quark propagator given in [R. Alkofer, W. Detmold, C. S. Fischer, and P. Maris, Phys. Rev. D 70, 014014 (2004).][M.S. Bhagwat, M.A. Pichowsky, and P.C. Tandy, Phys. Rev. D 67, 054019 (2003).], the quark condensate at finite chemical potential <(q) over barq >[mu] is calculated analytically. The obtained expression for <(q) over barq >[mu] is real, which is different from the results in the previous literature. In addition, it is found that when the chemical potential mu is less than a critical one <(q) over barq >[mu] is kept unchanged from its vacuum value. A comparison is made between this behavior of the quark condensate and those reported in the previous literatures.
