Abstract:Heavy metal and persistent organic pollutants can form composite pollution and some heavy metal can catalyze H2O2 to produce hydroxyl. Microwave heating has thermal effect and non-thermal effect. Methyl orange solution was model of azo dyestuff. Factors associated with decolorization ratio were experimentally studied following microwave power, microwave irradiation time, pH value, concentration of chromium (III) and H2O2. Results indicated that chromium (III) and H2O2 could form Fenton-like reagent and microwave could enhance the production of hydroxyl and the mineralization rate of methyl orange greatly. Decolorization ratio of 1000 mg · L-1 methyl orange solution was up to 93% under the conditions of 12.0 mmol · L-1 H2O2, 5 mmol · L-1 C3+, pH = 3, and microwave power of 700 W for 5 min.
