Abstract:A low-voltage plasma-ion-plating equipment was set up here based on the actions of plasma on the atoms or molecules of the evaporated materials during the film deposition, and a systematic research was carried out on both the conventional optical thin film materials (such as the sulphide, oxides) and the multilayer thin-film devices by using this equipment. The spectral transmittance, absorption, scattering and the packing density of the films were measured and analyzed. The experimental results show that this low-voltage plasma-ion-plating equipment can significantly improve both the optical and mechanical performances of the thin film deposited.
Optical design of free face reflective headlamps

Abstract:Headlamps are installed at the head of automobiles for road lighting. About the illumination and anti-dazzle, some standards such as the standard of ECE are established. Now more and more free face reflective headlamps (FFR headlamps) are applied, and the light distribution design of FFR mirror becomes an important subject in the field of automobile assembling part. In this paper the surface shape of FFR headlamps is analyzed and described as a multi-partition aspherical surface with some simple parameters. According to the fundamental principles of geometrical optics and using the theory of ray transmission with energy, millions of real rays emitted from lower beam filament and high beam filament are traced and the relative intensity of illumination at the test screen with distance of 25m from the automobiles is obtained. In this paper the description of FFR mirrors is discussed, the algorithm of FFR headlamp design is presented, the flow chart is given and the light distribution simulation software with friendly interfaces is developed. In the light distribution graphic interface of the software, the illumination area could be dragged to a certain position while the parameters of current partition at the FFR mirror will be automatically changed. Using this software the FFR headlamps satisfying criteria will be designed very quickly and the 3D coordinates of any points at the mirror will be obtained. This makes CAM of FFR headlamps easy.

Abstract:In this paper, the transportation and atomization of phosphor glue flowing in high-power LED (Light Emitting Diode) phosphor coating process were investigated via CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and numerical simulations, and the 3D flow field models as well as the mathematical models of phosphor were established to describe the velocity distribution of phosphor glue's flow field between two different spraying guns. Moreover, spraying experiments were carried out, and the consistency of simulated results with experimental ones was proved. It is found that numerical simulation helps accurately predict the phosphor droplets trajectories and the velocity distribution in LED phosphor coating process without establishing any models of atomization process; and that, within the same spray distance, small phosphor droplet and high droplet velocity may result in short acceleration and deceleration distance.

Abstract:The environmental material of TiO_2 thin film is prepared using ZDL-2051 automotive lighting vacuum metallising system with the method of vacuum evaporation deposition technique.Its morphological characteristic is analyzed using SEM and EDS.The result indicates that the surface of thin film is uniform,fine and crackless.The methods for preparing TiO_2 thin film are discussed.

Abstract:The invention relates to a vacuum coating process for an automobile hub surface, including preprocessing, surface spraying, ion cleaning, vacuum coating and preparing protective layer. The metal layer of the automobile hub surface is deposited by vacuum coating, avoiding large consumption of water resource, producing of large amounts of heavy-metal-containing waster water and additional cost arising therefrom; secondly, besides saving large amounts of heavy metal, because of the flatting effect of paint, the cost of traditional process is lowered, the process is simplified, the efficiency is improved, the labor intensity of workers is reduce; thirdly, since the protective layer and the metal layer are prepared in a same vacuum body, thus avoiding additional processes and saving labor time, the prepared coat has stable chemical performance which does not modify under high temperature and ultraviolet irradiation, assuring the hub color; by using ion cleaning, good bonding capability of the coat is guaranteed, quality of the automobile hub is greatly improved.

Abstract:Atom photolithography is a new application of atom optics in microfabriaction technical field. An ultrahigh vacuum evaporation equipment used for atom photolithography is designed and constructed. Its main parameters are : limit vacuum and operating vacuum 2.0E-6 Pa and 1.0E-5 Pa, respectively, the temperature of atom source tunable within a range of 300~1850 degree Celsius. Initial operation results show that limit vacuum of the equipment is better than the design parameter and its temperature is continuously tunable.

Abstract:The design and development process of rear combination lamp on a specific car is discussed.The functional layout,gap and offset definition,simulation verification and its interference with the moving parts are analyzed.The result shows that the rear combination lamp is composed of braking lamp,rear position lamp,rear turn-signal lamp,backup lamp and rear fog lamp.Moreover,the lens color of rear turn-signal lamp needs to be changed into colorless and transparent.Also,the rear combination lamp should not interfere with the back door when it moves.

Abstract:The phosphor dip-transfer coating method is simple and flexible for transferring a preanalyzed volume of phosphor gel, which can be beneficial to the high angular color uniformity (ACU) of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The crux of this method is the volume control of the phosphor gel; however, the critical factors which influence the volume control remain unrevealed. In this paper, we concentrate on investigating the transferred volume in terms of three parameters: withdrawal speed, post radius, and dipping depth. Numerical simulations were carried out utilizing the volume of fluid (VOF) model combined with the dynamic mesh model. The experiments were also conducted on an optical platform equipped with a high-speed camera. The simulation results coincide well with the experimental results, with the maximum relative difference within 15%. The results show that the transferred volume increases with the increasing withdrawal speed and remains stable when the speed is greater than 1 mm/s, and it shows a linear relationship with the cube of post radius. And the transferred volume will increase with the dipping depth. Based on the experimental and numerically work, it is concluded that the volume of the pre-analyzed phosphor gel can be precisely obtained.

Abstract:<p>Magnetron sputtering is a widely used physical vapor deposition technique. Reactive sputtering is used for the deposition of, e.g, oxides, nitrides and carbides. In fundamental research, versatility is essential when designing or upgrading a deposition chamber. Furthermore, automated deposition systems are the norm in industrial production, but relatively uncommon in laboratory-scale systems used primarily for fundamental research. Combining automatization and computerized control with the required versatility for fundamental research constitutes a challenge in designing, developing, and upgrading laboratory deposition systems. The present article provides a detailed description of the design of a lab-scale deposition chamber for magnetron sputtering used for the deposition of metallic, oxide, nitride and oxynitride films with automated controls, dc or pulsed bias, and combined with a coil to enhance the plasma density near the substrate. LabVIEW software (provided as Supplementary Information) has been developed for a high degree of computerized or automated control of hardware and processes control and logging of process details.</p>

Abstract:Traditional car headlights use halogen or high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps paired with a reflector cup, fisheye lens, and shading plate to comply with ECE112B (Headlamps with an Asymmetrical Passing Beam) regulations. This design has issues such as large and bulky volumes, and it sacrifices optical efficiency due to the shading plate. This paper proposes a solution using an LED light source coupled with a Liquid Silicone Rubber-Light Guide (LSR-LG) for compact automotive low-beam headlights. By employing the principle of total internal reflection, the light beam is confined within the LSR-LG to reduce the volume of the car lamp. Simultaneously, optimized the structure and adjusted the light distribution. In the prototype measurements, the LED combined with the LSR-LG in the compact automotive headlamps module exhibited light intensities of 11,942 cd, 12,898 cd, and 298.2 cd at measurement points 75 R, 50 R, and BR, respectively, by ECE R112B standards. Simultaneously, the design effectively reduced the car lamp module's volume to 90.63 mm × 164.53 mm × 73.37 mm. This design offers advantages such as energy efficiency, lightweight construction, and compact size. It also complies with ECE R112B regulations, showing promising potential as an excellent choice for the next generation of automotive low-beam headlights.

Abstract:Driven by the growing demand for next-generation displays,the development of advanced luminescent materials with exceptional photoelectric properties is rapidly accelerating,with such materials including quantum dots and phosphors,etc.Nevertheless,the primary challenge preventing the practical application of these luminescent materials lies in meeting the required durability standards.Atomic layer deposition(ALD)has,therefore,been employed to stabilize luminescent materials,and as a result,flexible display devices have been fabricated through material modification,surface and interface engineering,encapsulation,cross-scale manufacturing,and simulations.In addition,the appropriate equipment has been developed for both spatial ALD and fluidized ALD to satisfy the low-cost,high-efficiency,and high-reliability manufacturing requirements.This strategic approach establishes the groundwork for the development of ultra-stable luminescent materials,highly efficient light-emitting diodes(LEDs),and thin-film packaging.Ultimately,this significantly enhances their potential applicability in LED illumination and backlighted displays,marking a notable advancement in the display industry.
Investigation on dip-transfer phosphor coating for light-emitting diodes: Experiments and VOF simulations

Abstract:Dip-transfer phosphor coating method and its benefit on enhancing angular color uniformity (ACU) of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were previously reported, however, for applying this method in mass production, its fluid transfer mechanism and packaging consistency needs to be further investigated. The dip-transfer process is divided into two process, they are dipping process and transfer process. In our previous study, the dipping process were studied with experiments and simulations. In this study, we further studied the transfer process with numerical simulations based on combination of the volume of fluid (VOF) method and the dynamic mesh model, four parameters include post radius, withdrawal velocity, transfer height and phosphor gel viscosity were investigated. Besides, the packaging consistency of the dip-transfer phosphor coating method was studied with experiments. The simulated results show that the transfer volume decreases with the post radius, phosphor withdrawal velocity and phosphor gel viscosity, while keep the same with the transfer height. The experimental results show that the packaging consistency is highly rely on the transfer volume, with transfer volume varies from 0.71 μl to 6.12 ul, the maximum transfer volume deviation (MTVD) changes from 6.98% to 2.31%.

Abstract:A dip-coating apparatus including three separate parts(hydraulic pressure transfer part,lifting part,and control part) was developed.To solve the problem of vibration and ensure the lifting speed stability,hydraulic pressure transfer system was chosen to transfer and control the power.Insulating technique was adopted to separate vibration source and lifting part by using flexible linkage.The dip-coating apparatus was proved to have many advantages such as ultra-low vibration and low-speed moving stability and uniformity.The SEM images showed that both the surface and thickness of the films prepared by dip-coating were homogeneous.This high performance dip-coating apparatus could be widely used in the field of thin film preparation for teaching and research.

Abstract:A state-of-the-art multilayer deposition system with a 4200 mm-long linear substrate translator housed within an ultra-high vacuum chamber has been developed. This instrument is engineered to produce single and multilayer coatings, accommodating mirrors up to 2000 mm in length through the utilization of eight rectangular cathodes. To ensure the quality and reliability of the coatings, the system incorporates various diagnostic tools for in situ thickness uniformity and stress measurement. Furthermore, the system features an annealing process capable of heating up to 700°C within the load-lock chamber. The entire operation, including pump down, deposition and venting processes, is automated through user-friendly software. In addition, all essential log data, power of sputtering source, working pressure and motion positions are automatically stored for comprehensive data analysis. Preliminary commissioning results demonstrate excellent lateral film thickness uniformity, achieving 0.26% along the translation direction over 1500 mm in dynamic mode. The multilayer deposition system is poised for use in fabricating periodic, lateral-graded and depth-graded multilayers, specifically catering to the beamlines for diverse scientific applications at Diamond Light Source.
