Abstract:As one of the commonly used steels, 18CrNiMo7-6 has high strength, excellent wear resistance and fatigue strength, especially after a specific heat treatment process. However, the existing research lacks the comparison of dynamic mechanical behaviors with different heat treatment conditions. Especially, there are few research on the microstructure evolution law of machining process under high temperature, high strain and high strain rate. This study proposes that dynamic mechanical behavior curves of 18CrNiMo7-6 steel during normalizing heat treatment (NHT), quenching heat treatment (QHT), and carburizing and quenching heat treatment (CQHT) are obtained by carrying out impact mechanical experiments under different strain rates and different temperatures based on Split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) experiments. The microstructure of 18CrNiMo7-6 steel is investigated with three common heat treatment conditions. The main idea is to combine property curves and microstructures for analysis. The novelty of this method lies in the ability to understand the evolution of the microstructure based on dynamic mechanical behaviors, which is analogized to the high strain rates and high temperatures during machining process. Furthermore, the Johnson-Cook (J-C) constitutive models of 18CrNiMo7-6 steel with three heat treatment conditions are obtained. The model is applied in numerical fields from AdvantEdge-2D and compared with results based on cutting experiments that are representative of the turning process.
