Abstract:In this paper it is shown that if a Banach lattice E contains a lattice copy of l1 (or l∞), then it contains a lattice-almost isometric copy of l1 (resp. l∞), The above result is a lattice version of the well-known results of James and Partington concerning the almost isometric copies of l1 and l∞ in Banach spaces.

Abstract:We give some characterizations of disjointly weakly compact sets in Banach lattices, namely, those sets in whose solid hulls every disjoint sequence converges weakly to zero. As an application, we prove that a bounded linear operator from a Banach space to a Banach lattice is an almost ( L) limited operator if and only if it is a disjointly weakly compact operator, indeed, an operator which carries bounded sets to disjointly weakly compact ones. Some results on weak precompactness and (L -, M-)weak compactness of disjointly weakly compact operators are also obtained.

Abstract:Let $ X $ and $ Y $ be compact Hausdorff spaces, and $ E $ be a nonzero real Banach lattice. In this note, we give an elementary proof of a lattice-valued Banach-Stone theorem by Cao, Reilly and Xiong [3] which asserts that if there exists a Riesz isomorphism $ \Phi: C(X,E)\rightarrow C(Y,\mathbb{R}) $ such that $ \Phi(f) $ has no zeros if $ f $ has none, then $ X $ is homeomorphic to $ Y $ and $ E $ is Riesz isomorphic to $ \mathbb{R} $.
Lattices of slowly oscillating functions

Abstract:We show that lattice isomorphisms between the lattices of slowly oscillating functions on chain-connected proper metric spaces induce coarsely equivalent homeomorphisms. This result leads to a Banach-Stone-like theorem for these lattices. Furthermore, we provide a representation theorem that characterizes linear lattice isomorphisms among these lattices.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to establish several characterizations of almost order (L) sets (respectively, almost (L) sets). These characterizations generalize and correct those obtained recently by K. El Fahri and F.Z. Oughajji. In addition, we show that the almost (L) sets enjoy some interesting lattice approximation properties. Among other things, we show that a Banach lattice E has weakly sequentially continuous lattice operations if and only if the convex solid hull of every (L) set of is an (L) set. Moreover, we study the domination property for absolutely weakly sequentially continuous operators.

Free Banach lattices over pre-ordered Banach spaces

Abstract:We define the free Banach lattice over a pre-ordered Banach space in a category of Banach lattices of a given convexity type, and show its existence. The subsumption of a pre-ordering necessitates an approach that differs fundamentally from the known one for the free Banach lattice over a Banach space under a given convexity condition, which is a special case. The relation between the free vector lattice over a pre-ordered Banach space and the free Banach lattice of a given convexity type over it is made explicit. It is determined when precisely the free Banach lattice has a canonical realisation as a lattice of homogeneous continuous functions on the positive part of the unit ball of the dual space. For free $p$-convex Banach lattices with convexity constant 1 over pre-ordered Banach spaces, realisations as function lattices are obtained that generalise those for free Banach lattices of that type over Banach spaces. A characterisation of $p$-convex Banach lattices in terms of vector lattice homomorphisms into $\mathrm{L}_p$-spaces or into the real numbers is included.

Towards Strong Reverse Minkowski-type Inequalities for Lattices

Abstract:We present a natural reverse Minkowski-type inequality for lattices, which gives upper bounds on the number of lattice points in a Euclidean ball in terms of sublattice determinants, and conjecture its optimal form. The conjecture exhibits a surprising wealth of connections to various areas in mathematics and computer science, including a conjecture motivated by integer programming by Kannan and Lovász (Annals of Math. 1988), a question from additive combinatorics asked by Green, a question on Brownian motions asked by Saloff-Coste (Colloq. Math. 2010), a theorem by Milman and Pisier from convex geometry (Ann. Probab. 1987), worst-case to average-case reductions in lattice-based cryptography, and more. We present these connections, provide evidence for the conjecture, and discuss possible approaches towards a proof. Our main technical contribution is in proving that our conjecture implies the $\ell_2$ case of the Kannan and Lovász conjecture. The proof relies on a novel convex relaxation for the covering radius, and a rounding procedure for based on "uncrossing" lattice subspaces.

Abstract:In this article we deal with the free Banach lattice generated by a lattice and its behavior with respect to subspaces. In general, any lattice embedding $i\colon \mathbb{L} \longrightarrow \mathbb{M}$ between two lattices $\mathbb{L} \subseteq \mathbb{M}$ induces a Banach lattice homomorphism $\hat \imath\colon FBL \langle \mathbb{L} \rangle \longrightarrow FBL \langle \mathbb{M}\rangle$ between the corresponding free Banach lattices. We show that this mapping $\hat \imath$ might not be an isometric embedding neither an isomorphic embedding. In order to provide sufficient conditions for $\hat \imath$ to be an isometric embedding we define the notion of locally complemented lattices and prove that, if $\mathbb L$ is locally complemented in $\mathbb M$, then $\hat \imath$ yields an isometric lattice embedding from $FBL\langle\mathbb L\rangle$ into $FBL\langle\mathbb M\rangle$. We provide a wide number of examples of locally complemented sublattices and, as an application, we obtain that every free Banach lattice generated by a lattice is lattice isomorphic to an AM-space or, equivalently, to a sublattice of a $C(K)$-space. Furthermore, we prove that $\hat \imath$ is an isomorphic embedding if and only if it is injective, which in turn is equivalent to the fact that every lattice homomorphism $x^*\colon \mathbb{L} \longrightarrow [-1,1]$ extends to a lattice homomorphism $\hat x^*\colon \mathbb{M} \longrightarrow [-1,1]$. Using this characterization we provide an example of lattices $\mathbb{L} \subseteq \mathbb{M}$ for which $\hat \imath$ is an isomorphic not isometric embedding.

Abstract:We prove a lemma, which we call the Order Ideal Lemma, that can be used to demonstrate a wide array of log-concavity and log-convexity results in a combinatorial manner using order ideals in distributive lattices. We use the Order Ideal Lemma to prove log-concavity and log-convexity of various sequences involving lattice paths (Catalan, Motzkin and large Schröder numbers), intervals in Young's lattice, order polynomials, specializations of Schur and Schur Q-functions, Lucas sequences, descent and peak polynomials of permutations, pattern avoidance, set partitions, and noncrossing partitions. We end with a section with conjectures and outlining future directions.

Abstract:We present a new method of establishing a bijective correspondence - in fact, a lattice isomorphism - between action- and coaction-invariant ideals of C*-algebras and their crossed products by a fixed locally compact group. It is known that such a correspondence exists whenever the group is amenable; our results hold for any locally compact group under a natural form of coaction invariance.

Abstract:A well-known classical result states that $c_0$ is linearly embeddable in a Banach lattice if and only if it is lattice embeddable. Improving results of H.P.~Lotz, H.P.~Rosenthal and N.~Ghoussoub, we prove that $C[0,1]$ shares this property with $c_0$. Furthermore, we show that any infinite-dimensional sublattice of $C[0,1]$ is either lattice isomorphic to $c_0$ or contains a sublattice isomorphic to $C[0,1]$. As a consequence, it is proved that for a separable Banach lattice $X$ the following conditions are equivalent: (1) $X$ is linearly embeddable in a Banach lattice if and only if it is lattice embeddable; (2) $X$ is lattice embeddable into $C[0,1]$.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a non-empty, closed subspace of a locally compact group $G$ that is a subsemigroup of $G$. Suppose that $X, Y$, and $Z$ are Banach lattices that are vector sublattices of the order dual $\mathrm{C}_{\mathrm{c}}(S,\mathbb R)^\sim$ of the real-valued, continuous functions with compact support on $S$, and where $Z$ is Dedekind complete. Suppose that $\ast: X\times Y\to Z$ is a positive bilinear map such that $\mathrm{supp}\,{(x \ast y)}\subseteq\mathrm{supp}\,{x}\,\cdot\,\mathrm{supp}\,{y}$ for all $x\in X^+$ and $y\in Y^+$ with compact support. We show that, under mild conditions, the canonically associated map from $X$ into the vector lattice of regular operators from $Y$ into $Z$ is then a lattice homomorphism. Applications of this result are given in the context of convolutions, answering questions previously posed in the literature. As a preparation, we show that the order dual of the continuous, compactly supported functions on a closed subspace of a locally compact space can be canonically viewed as an order ideal of the order dual of the continuous, compactly supported functions on the larger space. As another preparation, we show that $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces and Banach lattices of measures on a locally compact space can be embedded as vector sublattices of the order dual of the continuous, compactly supported functions on that space.

Abstract: In this paper we investigate iteration of maps on lattices and the corresponding polynomial-like iterative equation. Since a lattice need not have a metric space structure, neither the Schauder fixed point theorem nor the Banach fixed point theorem is available. Using Tarski's fixed point theorem, we prove the existence of order-preserving solutions on convex complete sublattices of Riesz spaces. Further, in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathbb{R}$, special cases of Riesz space, we discuss upper semi-continuous solutions and integrable solutions respectively. Finally, we indicate more special cases of Riesz space for discussion on the iterative equation.

Abstract:Let $L$ be a lattice. We call a congruence relation $\gQ$ of $L$ isoform, if any two congruence classes of $\gQ$ are isomorphic (as lattices). Let us call the lattice $L$ isoform, if all congruences of $L$ are isoform. G. Grätzer and E.\,T. Schmidt proved that every finite distributive lattice $D$ can be represented as the congruence lattice of a finite isoform lattice $L$. We now prove that every finite lattice $K$ has a congruence-preserving extension to a finite isoform lattice $L$.
