Abstract:To develop a new pattern of air pollution control that is based on the integration of "concentration control, total amount control, and quality control", and in the context of developing national (2011-2015 air pollution control plan for key areas) and (Environmental protection plan of Zibo municipality for the "12th Five-Year Plan" period), a simulation of atmospheric dispersion of air pollutants in Zibo City and its peripheral areas is carried out by employing CALPUFF model, and the atmospheric environmental capacity of SO2, NO(x) and PM10 is estimated based on the results of model simulation and using multi-objective linear programming optimization. The results indicates that the air pollution in Zibo City is significantly related to the pollution sources outside of Zibo City, which contributes to the annual average concentration of SO2, NO2 and PM10 in Zibo City by 26.34%, 21.23%, and 14.58% respectively. There is a notable interaction between districts and counties of Zibo municipality, in which the contribution of SO2, NO(x) and PM10 emissions in surrounding counties and districts to the annual average concentrations of SO2, NO2 and PM10 in downtown area are 35.96%, 43.17%, and 17.69% respectively. There is a great variation in spatial sensitivity of air pollutant emission, and the environmental impact of unit pollutant emissions from Zhoucun, Huantai, Zhangdian and Zichuan is greater than that released from other districts/counties. To meet the requirement of (Ambient air quality standard) (GB 3095-2012), the environmental capacities of SO2, NO(x) and PM10 of Zibo City are only 8.03 x 10(4) t, 19.16 x 10(4) t and 3.21 x 10(4) t, respectively. Therefore, it is imperative to implement regional air pollution joint control in Shandong peninsula in order to ensure the achievement of air quality standard in Zibo City.

Abstract:In this paper, some numerical simulation studies on long distance transport of hazard materials from an accident of a nuclear powerstation have been showed with the Hysplit-4 model of Air Resource Laboratory, NOAA, USA. Two kinds of studies have been done : 1) A verification study shows that the Hysplit-4 model has successfully simulated the long distance transport process of radioactivity materials from Chenobyl accident site in 1986 to Munich. 2) the focus of attention of the differences of the geographic distribution of the radiactivity concentration fields between winter seasons and summer seasons has been made in case that the severe accident of Qingshan like Chenobyl would occur based on the historical meteorological fields in January or in July from 1992 to 2001. Furthermore, by making averaging of the simulated data of the concentration fields of cases separately in January or in in July, we obtain two groups of the geographic distribution of the concentration fields of hazard materials in 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. The results show us that the effect region and the intensity of hazard materials are larger in winter than in summer.

Abstract:Based on COHERENS,a three dimensional suspended sediment model COHERENS-SED is setup,combined with local wave conditions,to perform the simulation of three dimensional current and suspended sediment in the offshore zone of Qingdao.Then the results for the hydrodynamical environment and suspended sediment over this region are analyzed.The results show that under the combined action of waves and currents,the offshore resuspension is obvious,and the suspended sediment concentration is up to 50 mg/L during spring tide.

Abstract:This study aims to employ numerical simulations to understand the dynamics of wind fields and air pollutant dispersion in the proximity of a nuclear plant, situated within a specified urban environment. By leveraging computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combined with geographical information system (GIS) data, the research comprehensively models atmospheric interactions in terms of wind flow patterns, building-induced pressure variances, and pollutant trajectories. The computational domain extends over an area of , vertically stretching to 0.5 km. The wind and pollutant distribution equations are discretized using the finite volume method, providing detailed insights into fluid interactions with urban topographies. Key findings highlight the profound influences of terrain, urban structures, and wind flow behavior on the dispersion of radioactive aerosols, shedding light on potential risks and safety protocols for nuclear plant environments.

Abstract:Qinshan Nuclear Power Station is located in the Haiyan County of Zhejiang Province in east China. The warm water from their cooling systems is discharged into the Hangzhou Bay directly which will affect the ecosystem of coastal area in the bay. To study the influence of warming effect from the thermal discharge of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Station Phase2 and Phase3, the remote sensing image of the marine airborne multi-spectrum scanner (MAMS), the numerical modeling based COHERENS (A coupled Hydrodynamical Ecological Model for Regional Shelf seas) and shipboard water column measurements are all applied to explore the spatial and temporal distribution of the warm water. In order to get accurate boundary conditions, a larger area was simulated firstly to provide hydrodynamic parameter for the modeling area in the numerical simulation. From the remote sensing image, the numerical simulation and field observations, we can conclude that the thermal effluent from the Qinshan Phase2 and Phase3 cooling systems just influences coastal water on a small scale.

However, when a sudden-happening disaster, such as the Chernobyl disaster, had occurred, all the existed dispersion models in the world didn't work well for it. In this paper, we show the recent progress on this field.

Abstract:In order to study the diffusion and transport characteristics of abrupt pollutants in a macrotidal river and to propose appropriate measures to respond to minimize the impact of pollutants on water quality, Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible fluid in orthogonal curvilinear co-ordinates under the Boussinnesq assumption were used to numerically simulate the diffusion and transport of abrupt pollutants in Qiantang estuary, and the pollutant dispersion under different runoff were obtained by changing the upper reaches of the boundary is conditions. Results indicate that once Qiantang estuary is contaminated, the pollutants diffuse to downstream under the influence in the run-off, and by the effect of flood current the pollutants also impact the upstream water quality. The pollutant concentration at each contaminated point changes in the opposite way to the corresponding water level fluctuation in each tidal cycle. Increasing the upstream flow can accelerate the pollutants diffusion, it is conducive to reduce the pollutants' impact on water quality at upstream and downstream, and it also favours eliminating the pollutants quickly and achieving water quality safety.

Abstract:The dispersion simulations are carried out over a coastal region where Zhangzhou nuclear power station will be located.The diagnostic wind model,trajectory analysis and random walk model are used.The dispersions in this area are determined both by synoptic systems and land-sea breeze circulation.Spatial variation of wind field is not obvious,which leads to the straight dispersion plume.Temporal variation of wind field,particularly the wind direction transition caused by transient of land and sea breezes,plays an important role in atmospheric diffusion.Results from random walk simulations agree well with the in situ tracer experiment data,though quite large scatter still exists in some cases due to the effects by complex terrain and coastal meteorological condition.

Abstract:For increasing the regulation accuracy and efficiency, commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software Fluidyn-PANACHE was induced to assist in the analysis of typical radionuclides atmospheric diffusion for the Chinese nuclear safety regulation. The atmospheric dispersion simulation system that used three-dimensional CFD methods, combined three-dimensional GIS, and multiple technical methods, such as boundary values calculation, body-fitting mesh generation, and refinement, was established to simulate and discuss the local wind field characteristics, pollutant transportation, and spatial distribution patterns under spot or constant meteorological conditions following unsteady (real time) or steady methods, respectively. This method can be used to reasonably simulate the turbulent and circumferential flow around large cooling towers in the inland nuclear power plant, compensating the shortage in subtleness of the standard Gaussian model, as well as shortage in realizing multiwind direction simulation in the calculation by the traditional CFD model. The calculation results of annual average atmospheric dispersion factor under normal operation indicated the seasonal differences, with maximum average dispersion factor in autumn, which were consistent with those suggested by Gaussian mixture model. Consequently, it is reasonable to avoid refueling overhauling in autumn to diminish pollution. The CFD numerical simulation method, which has a high agreement with the results of physical tests such as wind tunnel test, provides a new reference for the nuclear safety review of inland nuclear facilities in China.

Abstract:Due to the effect of tide fluctuation,pollutants transport back and forth along the river course,posing threat on the water safety.This paper takes the permanganate index as the main water environmental indicator to investigate the effect of the permanganate pollutant continuously imported from upstream Fuyang on the downstream water.The pollutant peaking time at Zhijiang station in different water phases is obtained and used as a reference index for early warning of water safety.Based on current continuity equation,momentum equation and pollutants diffusion equation,the pollutant transport and diffusion process under nine flow conditions are simulated and analyzed.The results show that the peaking time at Zhijiang station is the earliest in the normal condition,followed by the low-flow season and the flood season.It indicates that the runoff facilitates transport and diffusion of pollutants to the downstream area.The peaking time at Zhijiang station appeared the latest under the action of spring tide,the earliest under neap tide,and in between for middle tide.This illustrates that the downstream tide has blocking effect to the downward transport of pollutant,and the greater the tide,the more obvious the blocking effect.The tidal water quality model can be used as the base model for studying pollutant migration and diffusion mechanism in the tidal river.It is practically meaningful for the development of measures for reducing the influence of the pollutant migration and diffusion on the surface water quality.

Abstract:Based on the numerical weather prediction model and automatic weather station data, random-walk particle-puff model was used to simulate the emergency response to atmospheric accident. The model for atmospheric diffusion could simulate the atmospheric diffusion in case of emergency accident occurred in 10min, both distribution of the particle and concentration calculated by the model could describe the variation of the diffusion route and affected area. Random walk model, as atmospheric diffusion module of the emergency accident decision support system, could provide more actual information for early emergency and consequence assessment.

Abstract:A software system based on C/S structure is developed for monitoringγ radiation around Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. The key technology of the system is described and the man functions of the software, including data inputting, data storing, data processing and data displaying, are introduced in this article. It is demonstrated that such software system could derive real-time data from monitoring stations accurately and steadily. The software system can improve the management level and management efficiency of the Environmental Radiation Monitoring department.

Abstract:The concentration and dose model on chemical agents diffusion or the toxic clouds diffusion model over complex terrain（CDM） is established, which can be used to assess and predict atmospheric pollution chemical accident hazard, and provides fast, intuitionistic and qnaniticational decision information for emergency. Contaminated field, contaminated rate, contaminated area, and contaminated depth may be computed in a few minutes. The comparison of field experiment results with numerical simulation results shows that contaminated field, contaminated rate, and contaminated depth are consistent on the whole, and the relative error of dose at different distance is less than one time. The mean relative error is 20.6%, and the relative error of contaminated depth are -26.3% and 10.2% respectively at 0.66 g.s/m3 and 0.24 g＇s/m3 dose. The comparison of CDM simulating results with water tank experiment results shows that they are similar highly in neutral atmosphere or stable atmosphere.

Abstract:Yhis paper presents the time integrated ^131I nuclide concentration in air and deposition concentration on the ground distribution under typical meteorologic conditions. During the calculation, the atmospheric dispersion model CALPUFF model is selected to predict the performance of Daya Bay nuclear power plant under severe accidents. The results can provide reference information for environment consequence assessment in case of nuclear power plant accidents.

Abstract:The complex terrain dispersion model (CTDM) developed by the American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is applied to Qinshan nuclear power plant (QNPP) in China. The ground plume centerline concentrations of atmospheric pollutant in Phase I, II and III are calculated. The results are compared with that of wind tunnel experiments and a few field data. Two revising methods for lift are put forward. Model reliability test shows that the revising methods are more accurate. The ratios of calculated result to the measurement in the domain of 1/3.5-3.5 are: 54.4% in CTDM, 72.9% in revision A and 58.6% in revision B. In addition, the model sensitivity is analyzed.

Abstract:A Lagrangian stochastic model and practical meteorological data are employed to study the characteristics of mesoscale atmospheric diffusion over Hangzhou Bay area, Zhejiang province, with the emission source at Qinshan nuclear power plant location. Four months in representative of 4 seasons in a year (1996) are simulated and statistical results from hourly data in each month are presented. Average patterns of atmospheric diffusion showed evident seasonal characteristics and variation, as well as the influence of landsea terrain distribution on transport paths. There are approximately westerly transport patterns upstream in the Hangzhou Bay river for spring and summer (April and July). While transport across the Hangzhou Bay to south bank and east sea surface are essential for autumn and winter (October and January). The atmospheric dilution ability over this region is the strongest in spring, and the weakest in autumn. The average time scales for airborne material transport out of the region are approximately 15 hours and 24 hours for spring and autumn, respectively. While that time scale is about 20 hours for winter and summer.

Abstract:To understand the spatial distribution of 14C discharged from Qinshan nuclear power plant, where two HWRs and four PWRs are on commercial operation, simulation using Gaussian plume model was carried out. The predicted values were compared with the measured 14C results of moss samples collected in 2010. A good fit was found between these two data sets, indicating that the spatial distribution of 14C follows a Gaussian model. It can be concluded that HWRs are the dominant 14C sources at Qinshan site and meteorological influences is the leading factor affecting the distribution of 14C.

In order to evaluate and calibrate the model a series of tracer experiments and towing tank experiments were carried out. The flow and concentration fields simulated by the model and observed in those experiments are compared. Finally the advantage and limitation of the system are discussed.

Abstract:Three-dimensional numerical experiments were conducted to evaluate the dispersion of thermal effluents, in which wetting and drying approach was involved. Choosing the Xiangshan Bay as a typical region with large tidal flats, we compared 15 schemes and showed that the established model can be used to simulate the shapes of elevated temperature envelope with satisfactory results, and that the cooling tower method has less environmental effect than the direct emission mode does. From the numerical experiments, it was recommended that the cooling tower method be adopted in the coastal power plants.
