Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features and predisposing risk factors of pulmonary fungal infection (PFI). Methods The medical records of 87 cases with PFI from 2001 to 2005 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Various underlying diseases were identified in 94. 3% of the 87 cases. COPD. pulmonary tuberculosis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). leukemia and chronic renal disease were the major predisposing diseases. Primary pulmonary fungal infection was rare. All the clinical manifestations of PFI were non-specific, and 34 cases were asymptomatic. The findings of chest x-ray are mainly hron-chitis type (41. 4%). The proportion of various fungal pathogens was 49. 4% (Candida spp. ), 25. 3% (Aspergillus),13.8% (Cryptococcus),10. 3% (Histoplasma). and 1. 2% (Penicillium marneffei), respectively. The mortality of PFI was high. Conclusions PFI is an important cause of secondary infections in many diseases. The clinical feature of PFI is non-specific with high mortality. The morbidity is increasing. Clinicians should pay more attention to it.
