Abstract:A simple design of a stable multiwavelength pulse generator was demonstrated using a dispersion-tuned actively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser with distributed dispersion cavity. The distributed dispersion cavity in the fiber laser successfully reduced the cross-gain saturation in EDF, and thus, enabled multiwavelength operation. Simultaneous generation of wavelength-tunable 10-GHz pulses up to four different wavelengths was achieved with the same wavelength space of 2.94 nm. The extinction ratio of all wavelengths was above 30 dB. In addition, smooth wavelength tuning was achieved over more than 41 nm when the laser was working at dual-wavelength mode. The super mode noise was ~60 dB below the signal level at both wavelengths. The laser state was found to be very stable

Abstract:We demonstrate a stable multiwavelength actively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser at 10 GHz based on a dispersion cavity and nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) effect. The dispersion cavity allows simultaneous multiple wavelengths to satisfy the round-trip condition and smooth wavelength tuning, while the NPR ensures the stable operation and supermode noise suppression. A simple model is developed to explore the optimal setting of the cavity. Simultaneous dual- and five-wavelength operation is experimentally investigated.

Abstract:Multiwavelength dispersion-tuned actively mode-locked erbium-doped fibre ring laser is demonstrated by incorporating a section of highly nonlinear fibre (HNLF) in the laser cavity. The HNLF and the time gate element (modulator) in the fibre laser successfully suppress the gain competition in the erbium-doped fibre, and thus enable multiwavelength operation. Simultaneous generation of 10 GHz pulses up to eight different wavelengths is achieved. Wavelength, spacing and modes number tuning are investigated by changing fibre cavity length, dispersion, and erbium-doped fibre amplifier power, respectively.

Abstract:We demonstrate a multiwavelength 10GHz pulse source using a dispersion-tuned actively mode-locked fiber ring laser incorporated with a semiconductor optical amplifier and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. Simultaneous seven-wavelength operation of the laser is obtained. The side-mode suppression of all wavelengths is above 30dB. Smooth wavelength tuning is achieved over more than 12nm by changing the modulation frequency or the length of the optical delay line. Pulse characteristics are almost constant over the entire tuning span. Wavelength spacing can also be varied from 0.9 to 10nm by adjusting the dispersion of the cavity. These experimental observations agree well with theoretical analyses.

Abstract:A multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (MEDFL) with simple line structure is experimentally demonstrated by using a Sagnac interferometer as a comb filter. Abstract:A stable mode-locked fiber ring laser with large dispersion cavity is demonstrated. In this laser, the instability caused by cavity is length excursion is suppressed. At the same time, the super mode noise is suppressed too. A 10 GHz mode locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser using a large dispersion cavity is developed, in which the pulse repetition rate is 10 GHz with the form of sech2 profile, the pulse width (FWHM) measured by autocorrelation meter is 7.6 ps, and the time-bandwidth product is approximately 0.335.

Abstract:We proposed and developed a self-stable multiwavelength (4 cbannels) 10-GHz actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring laser with 0.8 nm wavelength spacing. A 1-km highly nonlinear fiber is incorporated in the laser cavity to eliminate the strong gain competitions in the homogeneously broadened EDF by multiple parametric four-wave mixing processes. The fiber nonlinearity is also helpful to provide phase locking and stabilize the output pulse. Stable laser pulses at 1556.55, 1557.36, 1558.17, and 1558.98 nm are successfully obtained simultaneously with supermode noise suppression ratio greater than 50 dB. The corresponding time-bandwidth products of four channels are 0.39 ∼ 0.41.

Abstract:A novel configuration was demonstrated to realize dual-wavelength operation in an erbium-doped fiber ring laser by incorporating a pair of multiplexer/demultiplexer. The repetition rate of each channel can be separately changed by adjusting a delay line associated with that channel in the cavity without changing the radio frequency. Dual-wavelength pulses at 2.5 and 5 GHz respectively were simultaneously obtained with pulse widths of 17.7 and 13 ps.

Abstract:We experimentally studied a functional multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber EDF laser at room temperature incorporating a commercial highly nonlinear fiber HNLF and a comb filter based on a first-order polarization mode dispersion emulator PMDE. The tunability of the lasing wavelength, the wavelength spacing, and the number of channels were investigated. It is found that the tuning of the three pa- rameters can be achieved by changing the setting of the first-order PMDE and varying the pump current of the EDF amplifier. This feature is very important to make the fiber laser practicable in many applications.

Abstract:A stabilized 10-GHz actively mode-locked fiber ring laser constructed with non-polarization-maintained fiber was reported, whose long term stabilization was achieved by synchronous modulation technology based on an error signal extraction and procession circuit. Its output pulses could maintain over 8 hours with the pulse width of about 11 ps and the spectrum width of about 0.37 nm; in the meanwhile the output power and the center wavelength of the output pulse still kept stable at 1.6 mW and 1,550.3 nm respectively. Its output pulses were additionally compressed to 2 ps by high order soliton effect.

Abstract:The actively mode-locked fiber laser has two kinds of instability. It is proposed a novel method to overcome the short term instability by exploiting nonlinear polarization rotation. The long term instability is removed by feedback used to control fiber cavity length. It is made the actively mode-locked fiber ring laser operation stabily for more than 8 times. The pulse width was 10ps, the spectrum width was 0. 317nm, the product of time-bandwidth was 0. 403, wavelength was 1535-1564nm, the tunable range was 39nm.

Abstract:In this paper we report the fabrication of a robust, tunable single-longitudinal-mode compound-ring Er/sup 3+/-doped fiber laser. The laser is fundamentally structured on an all-fiber compound-ring resonator in which a dual-coupler fiber ring is inserted into the main cavity. When combined in tandem with a mode-restricting intracavity tunable bandpass filter, the compound-ring resonator ensures single-longitudinal-mode laser oscillation. The laser can provide up to 20 mW output power over much of its 1525 to 1570 nm wavelength tuning range. The short-term linewidth of the laser output measured is less than 5 kHz. The laser frequency is actively stabilized for a long time by exploiting the inherent filter nature of the compound-ring resonator. The reduction of an associated frequency modulation is also discussed in detail.

Abstract:A novel L-band multi-wavelength erbium-doped fibre ring laser was proposed and studied by numerical method. The numerical model was developed based on a C-band EDFA and the propagation and rate equations of homogeneous broaden in two levels medium. In this L-band model, the excited state absorption was included during computing. The flat multi-wavelength laser in L-band was achieved by lengthening the erbium-doped fibre, and utilizing detrimental backward amplified spontaneous emission as a secondary pump power. The laser emitting spectral region was shifted, to prevent the mode competing at room temperature. This kind of laser can be useful in a wavelength division multiplexing transmission (WDM) system.

Abstract:A single-longitudinal-mode dual-wavelength distributed feedback fiber laser with a wavelength spacing of 0.312 rim is proposed and demonstrated. Based on two spatially separated resonant cavities in a single fiber Bragg grating made by a simple method, stable dual-wavelength lasing is established. Then, a 38.67-GRz microwave signal generated by beating the two lasing wavelengths is obtained with a 3-dB bandwidth of similar to 6 kHz and a frequency drift < 5 MHz without any feedback mechanism. As a potential application of this device, a tunable microwave source ranging from 18.67 to 58.67 GHz (with a small discontinuity) is proposed and partially demonstrated.

Abstract:We propose and demonstrate a novel single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber ring laser incorporating a semiconductor optical amplifier. The SOA biased in its low-gain regime greatly reduces the gain competition of the two wavelengths. The stable SLM operation is guaranteed by a passive triple-ring cavity and a fiber Fabry-Perot filter. The dual-wavelength output with a 40 GHz wavelength spacing is switchable in the range of 1533-1565.4 nm. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America.
