Research on the Product Family EAC Model and Its Applications for Structural Modeling

Abstract:A modeling method for product family based on EAC (Entity-Attribute-Constraint) was proposed, which described product family as triple of entity, attribute and constraint. The entity was a physical object and abstraction of the product family, the attribute was the property description of the physical object, and the constraint was a set of relationship supporting the entity object and attribute object of the product family. A descriptive model of product family based on VGBOM (Variant Generic BOM) was proposed. In addition to the ability of describing the constructions and relations in the same family of products and the covering of all the characteristics of potential changes of products, the model also supports variable parameters, which can make better realization of examples of variant products by configuration.
