Abstract:In order to investigate the seismic behavior of connections composed of concrete-filled square steel tubular columns and steel-concrete composite beams with interior diaphragms,3 cruciform connection specimens were tested under cyclic loading.Based on the experimental data, the failure pattern, hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, displacement restoring capacity, ductility, rigidity degradation and energy dissipation capacity, etc.were studied. The test results showed that the connections with interior diaphragms were capable of transferring the moments and shear forces of the beams. The hysteresis loops of the connections with interior diaphragms were in a shuttle type, and as a result the energy dissipated per loop was good. The connections had adequate strength, enough energy dissipation capacity and stable hysteretic characteristic for the beam plastic hinge failure mode. While for the shear failure mode of the panel zone or the local weld failure mode, the ductility of this type of connections was low,and the seismic performance was also poor. The composite effects between steel beams and concrete slabs should be taken into account in seismic design of the connections.
