Abstract:The recontamination during distribution of drinking water has been receiving considerable attention flyer the past two decades. This paper intended to analyze the bacterial growth in the biofilms of drinking water distribution system. Microbiological method was used to isolate and identify the population of the biofilms. According to the scanning electron microscopic photos, most microorganisms attached inside pipelines were found to be cocci and bacilli. 20 bacteria strains were obtained. All of them were heterotrophic bacteria, most of them were gram-positive bacteria, majority was aerobic and some were facultative anaerobes. For this test, the dominant species living throughout the test period were micrococcus roseus, micrococcus luteus, terrabacter collins, brevibacterium linens and arthrobacter. They adapted to grow in the restricted nutrient environment. The B.linens have a good capacity of adaptation to the environment of either restricted or abundant nutrition. The pathogenic bacteria have not been found in the test. However, the large quantity of bacterial growth in water distribution system might facilitate the growth of some pathogens or opportunistic pathogens which addressed an increasing concern on microbiological quality of distributed water.
