Abstract:Let M be an n (>= 7)-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the hyperbolic space Hn+p, whose mean curvature satisfies H-2-1 <= 0. Denote by angstrom and B-R(q) the trace free second fundamental form of M and the geodesic ball of radius R centered at q is an element of M, respectively. We prove that if lim(R ->infinity) sup integral(vertical bar angstrom vertical bar 2dM)(BR(q))/R-2 and if (integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n) dM)(2/n) + 2n(n-2)/3 root n(n-1) H(integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n/2)dM)(2/n) <= C(n), then M is congruent to an n-dimensional hyperbolic space or the Euclidean space R-n. Here C(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n. We also obtain a similar gap theorem in the case where n = 5, 6. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
A New Gap for Complete Hypersurfaces with Constant Mean Curvature in Space Forms

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:In this paper, the notion of Fredholm tetrad of closed linear subspaces in a Banach space is introduced. Then the stability of the Fredholm tetrad is proved. After that, the notion of semi-compact perturbation of a closed linear subspace is introduced. Then for a of pair of closed linear subspace of a Banach space such that one is a semi-compact perturbation of the other, it is proved that the relative dimension between them is well-defined. If the perturbation is compact, the relative dimension is stable. Finally the perturbed argumented Morse index is studied.

Abstract:An n-dimensional lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 is the critical point of the weighted area functional integral(M) e(-1/4|X|2) d mu for weighted volume-preserving variations, which is also a generalization of the self-shrinking solution of the mean curvature flow. We first prove that if the L-n-norm of the second fundamental form of the lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant K(n, lambda), then M is a hyperplane. Secondly, we show that if the L-n-norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of M with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant D(n, lambda) and the mean curvature is suitably bounded, then M is a hyperplane. We also obtain similar results for lambda-surfaces in R-3 under L-4-curvature pinching conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the topological properties and the gap sequences of Bedford-McMullen sets. First, we introduce a topological condition, the component separation condition (CSC), and a geometric condition, the exponential rate condition (ERC). Then we prove that the CSC implies the ERC, and that both of them are sufficient conditions for obtaining the asymptotic estimate of gap sequences. We also explore topological properties of Bedford-McMullen sets and prove that all normal Bedford-McMullen sets with infinitely many connected components satisfy the CSC, from which we obtain the asymptotic estimate of the gap sequences of Bedford-McMullen sets without any restrictions. Finally, we apply our result to Lipschitz equivalence.

Abstract:In this paper, the gap function for a new class of generalized vector variational inequal- ities with point-to-set mappings (for short, GVVI) is introduced and the necessary and sufficient conditions for the GVVI are established. Furthermore, under certain pseudomonotonicity condi- tion and hemicontinuity condition, we obtain the existence theorems for the GVVI. The results presented in this paper are new and extend corresponding results in this field.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of gap sequences for compact sets E ⊂ R , which is a generalization of the gap sequences of compact sets on the real line. We show that if the gap sequences of two fractal sets are not equivalent, then these two sets cannot be Lipschitz equivalent, where the latter fact is usually very hard to verify. Abstract:Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space and let $\mathcal{J}$ be a two-sided ideal of the algebra of bounded operators $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$. The groups $\mathcal{G} \ell_\mathcal{J}$ and $\mathcal{U}_{\mathcal{J}}$ consist of all the invertible operators and unitary operators of the form $I + \mathcal{J}$, respectively. We study the actions of these groups on the set of closed range operators. First, we find equivalent characterizations of the $\mathcal{G} \ell_\mathcal{J}$-orbits involving the essential codimension. These characterizations can be made more explicit in the case of arithmetic mean closed ideals. Second, we give characterizations of the $\mathcal{U}_{\mathcal{J}}$-orbits by using recent results on restricted diagonalization. Finally we introduce the notion of $\mathcal{J}$-equivalence and $\mathcal{J}$-unitary equivalence between frames for subspaces of a Hilbert space, and we apply our abstract results to obtain several results regarding duality and symmetric approximation of $\mathcal{J}$-equivalent frames.

Abstract:Beurling's classical theorem gives a complete characterization of all invariant subspaces in the Hardy space H-2(D). To generalize the theorem to higher dimensions, one is naturally led to determining the structure of each unitary equivalence (resp. similarity) class. This, in turn, requires finding podal (resp. s-podal) points in unitary (resp. similarity) orbits. In this note, we find that H-outer (resp. G-outer) functions play an important role in finding podal (resp. s-podal) points. By the methods developed in this note, we can assess when a unitary (resp. similarity) orbit contains a podal (resp. an s-podal) point, and hence provide examples of orbits without such points.

Abstract:The relative distance between eigenvalues of the compression of a not necessarily semibounded self-adjoint operator to a closed subspace and some of the eigenvalues of the original operator in a gap of the essential spectrum is considered. It is shown that this distance depends on the maximal angles between pairs of associated subspaces. This generalises results by Drmač in [Linear Algebra Appl. 244 (1996), 155--163] from matrices to not necessarily (semi)bounded operators.

Abstract:We provide a probabilistic proof of the fundamental gap estimate for Schrödinger operators in convex domains on the sphere, which extends the probabilistic proof of F. Gong, H. Li, and D. Luo for the Euclidean case. Our results further generalize the results achieved for the Laplacian by S. Seto, L. Wang, and G. Wei, as well as by C. He, G. Wei, and Qi S. Zhang. The essential ingredient in our analysis is the reflection coupling method on Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:Let M-n (n >= 3) be an n-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in Rn+P. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. By using a direct method, we prove that if integral(M)(S - nH(2))(n/2)dM < C(n), where C(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then S = nH(2), i.e., M-n is a totally umbilical submanifold. In particular, if H = 0, then M = R-n; if H not equal 0, then M = S-n (1/H). It improves the gap theorems proposed by Lei Ni and Xu.
