Abstract:Palm oil waste is one of the main agricultural wastes in ASEAN countries. Novel technologies are required to treat these tremendous wastes at high efficiency and also with low emission concern. A study on the properties of various gas products releasing from palm oil wastes pyrolysis/gasification was carried out. Gaseous products were mainly CO2, CO, CH4, H2O, and a few organics. Temperature had a significant influence on pyrolysis of palm oil wastes. With O2 input increasing, gas products evolving rate increased greatly, and biomass decomposition completed instantly at lower temperature. With H2O inputting, biomass decomposition was greatly enhanced at higher temperature with large amount of CO and CO2 evolved. The main gas product species were H2, CO, CH4, and CO. For palm oil wastes gasification, H2 yield increased with the increase of H2O input, but decreased with high O2 input, although with a limited O2 input, varying O2 input had negligible influence on H2 yield.
