Abstract:TiC/Ti composite were fabricated by liquid phase sintering (LPS) method. The phase composition of the composites was investigated by means of XRD. The composite prepared by LPS were compressed and extruded at high temperature, respectively. The microstructure of the composite was studied using SEM and optical microscope (OM). The results show the reaction between the matrix Ti and Cu in the sintering assistant forms a glassy phase TiCu2. The composite has a good deformability at high temperature because of the existence of liquid phase TiCu2, which can be compressed in 72.9% compression ratio and extruded in 16:1 extrusion ratio. The pores in the composite are obviously decreased and relative density is increased, and the composition of the composite is stable after high temperature plastic deformation. After high temperature extrusion, the liquid phase TiCu2 is transformed into small particles of 1 mu m similar to 2 mu m, which are uniformly distributed aroung the periphery of the matrix Ti particles.
