Abstract:We report a quasi-white-light laser, which was generated by an all-solid-state laser technique. The approach is to use a cascaded optical superlattice in a LiTaO3 crystal to directly frequency double and triple a diode-pumped, Q-switched dual-wavelength Nd:YVO4 laser. Three primary color lights, red at 671nm, green at 532nm, and blue at 447nm, were simultaneously generated in a proper proportion, forming a quasicontinuous, quasi-white-light laser with a maximum output power of 530mW under a pump power of 18W. From the result, a more effective quasi-white-light output can be anticipated if the superlattice is fabricated in a stoichiometric LiTaO3 crystal and the double resonant technique is further optimized.

Abstract:A LiTaO3 optical superlattice with a cascaded structure was used for frequency doubling and tripling of the dual-wavelength output of a Nd:YAG laser. 780 mW of red light, 146 mW of green light and 84 mW of blue light were obtained, which combined 1.01 W of quasi-white light power.

Abstract:We propose a dual-periodically domain-inverted structure for realizing an efficient third-harmonic generation at an arbitrary fundamental wavelength. The structure allows to couple two separate optical parametric processes, frequency doubling and frequency adding, through a cascaded quasi-phase-matched interaction, therefore, generate third-harmonic directly from a superlattice sample. As an example, we designed and fabricated such a structure in a LiTaO3 crystal. Using a LD pumped 1.064 mum quasi-cw Nd:YVO4 laser as a fundamental source, considerable ultraviolet at 355 nm was generated from this superlattice by frequency tripling. And green at 532 nm was simultaneously obtained by frequency doubling.

Abstract:First-order quasiphase matched green light generation in a periodic LiTaO3 superlattice crystal was performed by direct frequency doubling of a quasi-continuous solid-state laser pumped by a diode. A 7.8-μm period, 14-mm long sample, fabricated by field poling, was used. A 38-mW, 532-nm green light output was obtained from the sample with an incidence power of 256 mW near room temperature, which corresponds to 15% single-pass conversion efficiency. No obvious photo-refractive damage was observed in the operation temperature and power level. The measured effective nonlinear coefficient is 7 pm/V. The measured temperature band width of 3°C corresponds to the theoretical value.

Abstract:As the next generation of display technique,laser based display has more advantages than the conventional ones and red,green and blue(RGB),the three primary colors,are the base.Using nonlinear frequency conversion technique is one of the ways to obtain RGB.Optical superlattice based on quasi-phase-matching theory is frequently used as nonlinear frequency converter due to the flexible design and simultaneous phase-matching of multiple optical parametric processes.Combining optical superlattice with all-solid-state laser technique,we can get simultaneous RGB output,and by weighted combination of RGB,quasi-white light could be obtained.In this paper,we will introduce our preliminary work in this area and give some future directions.

Abstract:We present a high power red-green-blue (RGB) laser light source based on cascaded quasi-phasematched wavelength conversions in a single stoichiometric lithium tantalate. The superiority of the experimental setup is: the facula of the incident beam is elliptical to increase interaction volume, and the cavity was an idler resonant configuration for realizing more efficient red and blue light output. An average power of 2 W of quasi-white-light was obtained by proper combination of the RGB three colors. The conversion efficiency for the power of the quasi-white-light over pump power reached 36%. This efficiency and powerful RGB laser light source has potential applications in laser-based projection display et al.

Abstract:We report the 390 and 385 nm violet light generation by frequency doubling of a tunable 90 fs, 82 MHz Ti:sapphire laser in two optical superlattice LiNbO3 samples through third-order quasiphase matching (QPM). With the average incident infrared light power of 770 mW, 9.7 and 2.9 mW output second-harmonic lights were obtained without photorefractive damage. The QPM wavelength acceptance bandwidth measurement indicates that violet light generation with higher efficiency is possible.

Abstract:Optical superlattice Er:LiNbO3 was fabricated by inducing a periodic ferroelectric domain structure into the crystal during the growing process. Because of the combination of the nonlinear optical properties of LiNbO3 and the spectral properties of Er3+, the crystal can simultaneously emit the second harmonic light through quasi-phase matching and the green light through upconversion at room temperature. Pumped by infrared diode lasers, violet-and-green and blue-and-green light generation was demonstrated in two samples. The detailed absorption spectrum and emission spectrum of upconversion were measured. The possible physical mechanism was discussed.

Abstract:The generation of 489 nm blue light by direct frequency doubling a CW 978 nm InGaAs diode laser radiation was demonstrated in optical superlattice LiNbO/sub 3/ crystals at room temperature. When the incident power was 150, 1.35 mW and 1.0 mW blue lights were achieved in the samples with and without an enhancement cavity, respectively.

Abstract:The red light at 666 nm and the blue light at 443 nm were obtained simultaneously by quasi-phase matching from a quasi-periodic LiTaO3 optical superlattice using a ps 532 nm laser as a pump through two cascaded nonlinear processes, a quasi-phase matched parametric generation and a quasi-phase matched sum-frequency process. The former process was used to get the red signal and the infrared idle light, meanwhile, the latter was to get the blue light by the sum of the pump and idle light. The two processes were phase-matched by two reciprocal vectors of the same optical superlattice. The pump's pulse width is 40 ps with a repetition of 10 Hz. The power of the red light is 0.15 mW and the blue 16.6 μW under the average pump power of 0.5 mW, corresponding to the conversion efficiency of 34.0% and 3% respectively. The result shows a new technical approach to obtain three primary colors.

Abstract:We propose a scheme for generating three primary colours with a 1064 nm pump wave. Three quasi-phase-matched parametric processes, i.e., second-harmonic generation, optical parametric generation, and sum-frequency generation, are coupled in a single optical superlattice. On the basis of the plane-wave approximation, the coupling process is investigated theoretically. And a special design for a quasiperiodic structure is presented.

Abstract:A simultaneous generation of red light at 631nm and blue light at 460nm was realized, in single-pass quasi-phase-matched scheme, from two periodical optical superlattices in the same LiTaO3 crystal in series. Using a 532nm laser as pump, the red light was generated at 631nm as the signal of optical parametric process in the first superlattice, and the blue light at 460nm was the sum-frequency mixing the idler and the pump in the second superlattice. Along with the remnant pump at 532nm, red light, green light and blue light can be obtained from the superlattice system simultaneously. This may be an emulous scheme to realize a compact three-fundamental-colors laser in future.

Abstract:We present a kind of aperiodic structure for the generation of multiple-wavelength second harmonic in a quasi-phase-matching scheme. In order to confirm its efficiency, a LiTaO3 superlattice with such an aperiodic domain-inverted structure was designed and fabricated. The second-harmonic generation at four present wavelengths was experimentally demonstrated from the superlattice with high and nearly equal conversion efficiencies. The tested result is in good agreement with theoretical consideration. The method may be used for the design of optical superlattices to construct multiple-wavelength lasers and wavelength converters for all-optical network.

Abstract:Picosecond 531 nm green and 385 nm violet light generation through first-order and third-order quasiphase matching (QPM) has been performed in a LiNbO3 optical superlattice. The conversion efficiency is 11.4% and 1.6%, respectively. A comparison between theoretical analyses and experimental results of frequency doubling peak value and full width at half-maximum for both the first- and third-order QPM are given. Possible simultaneous generation of green and violet light in the crystal are predicted for constructing a compact two outputting wavelengths light source.

Abstract:We report in this work a continuous wave (CW) narrowband 589 nm light generation for the purpose of laser guide assisted adaptive optics. A 39 mm long 1 mm thick periodically poled near stoichiometric LiTaO 3 crystal with duty cycle near 50% was fabricated using electrical poling at room temperature and pumped by a Raman fiber amplifier. We tested two temperature control ovens, and a maximum conversion efficiency of about 14.3%, corresponding to 4 W of yellow light with 28 W of fundamental power, and bandwidth less than 0.18 GHz was achieved.

Abstract:We demonstrate a compact all-solid-state yellow laser source based on Q-switched dual-wavelength Nd:YAG laser and periodically-poled LiTaO(3) crystal. 589-nm yellow light was generated by single-pass sum-frequency generation of the fundamental IR waves at 1064 and 1319 nm. The maximum output power of yellow light was 506 mW and the corresponding conversion efficiency was approximately 5.5% [W(-1)cm(-1)].

Abstract:Optical superlattice LiNbO 3 crystals with modulation periods were grown by Czochralski method. The generation of femtosecond pulses from violet to blue has been demonstrated in optical superlattice LiNbO 3 crystals using third-order quasi-phase-matching. The output power of 9.0 mW at 390 nm, 11.5 mW at 402 nm, and 10.4 mW at 421 nm has been obtained. The dependence of the output power and the acceptance bandwidth on crystal length has been measured and theoretically discussed.
