Abstract:Transition metal ions incorporated into the microporous and mesoporous materials represent a class of new catalytic materials showing interesting catalytic performance in selective oxidation as well as in the reactions involved in environmental catalysis. The so-called a-oxygen, generated by N2O decomposition on the a-site over Fe/ZSM-5, can selectively oxidize methane and benzene, respectively, to methanol and phenol at room temperature, behaving similarly to the enzymatic catalysis of methane monooxygenase. UV resonance Raman spectroscopy together with several other spectroscopic techniques was employed to study the evolution of the framework and extraframework iron species in Fe/ZSM-5. The nature of a-oxygen, and the structure transformation of a-site upon interaction with N2O, O2, H2O, NO and CH4, were also studied. A tentative description of the a-site structure and the a-oxygen formation was proposed. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 229th ACS National Meeting (San Diego, CA 3/13-17/2005).
