Abstract:This note presents a proof that the non-tangential maximal function of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup is bounded almost surely by the Gaussian Hardy-Littlewood maximal function. In particular this entails improvement on a result by Pineda and Urbina who proved a similar result for a `trunctated' version of the non-tangential maximal function. We actually obtain boundedness of the maximal function on non-tangential cones of arbitrary aperture.

Abstract:Let $(X,d,\mu)$ be a metric space with doubling measure and $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ whose heat kernel satisfies the Gaussian upper bound. We assume that there exists an $L$-harmonic function $h$ such that the semigroup $\exp(-tL)$, after applying the Doob transform related to $h$, satisfies the upper and lower Gaussian estimates. In this paper we apply the Doob transform and some techniques as in Grafakos-Honzík-Seeger \cite{GHS2006} to obtain an optimal $\sqrt{\log(1+N)}$ bound in $L^p$ for the maximal function $\sup_{1\leq i\leq N}|m_i(L)f|$ for multipliers $m_i,1\leq i\leq N,$ with uniform estimates. Based on this, we establish sufficient conditions on the bounded Borel function $m$ such that the maximal function $M_{m,L}f(x) = \sup_{t>0} |m(tL)f(x)|$ is bounded on $L^p(X)$. The applications include Schrödinger operators with inverse square potential, Scattering operators, Bessel operators and Laplace-Beltrami operators.

Abstract:The classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded not only on the classical Lebesgue spaces Lp(Rd) (in the case p > 1), but (in the case when 1/p(·) is log-Hölder continuous and p- = inf{p(x): x ∈ Rd > 1) on the variable Lebesgue spaces Lp(·)(Rd), too. Furthermore, the classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is of weak-type (1, 1). In the present note we generalize Besicovitch’s covering theorem for the so-called γ-rectangles. We introduce a general maximal operator Msγδ, and with the help of generalized Φ-functions, the strong- and weak-type inequalities will be proved for this maximal operator. Namely, if the exponent function 1/p(·) is log-Hölder continuous and p- ≥ s, where 1 ≤ s ≤ ∞ is arbitrary (or p- ≥ s), then the maximal operator Msγδ is bounded on the space Lp(·)(Rd) (or the maximal operator is of weak-type (p(·), p(·))).

A Strong Law of Large Numbers for Random Monotone Operators

Abstract:Random monotone operators are stochastic versions of maximal monotone operators which play an important role in stochastic nonsmooth optimization. Several stochastic nonsmooth optimization algorithms have been shown to converge to a zero of a mean operator defined as the expectation, in the sense of the Aumann integral, of a random monotone operator. In this note, we prove a strong law of large numbers for random monotone operators where the limit is the mean operator. We apply this result to the empirical risk minimization problem appearing in machine learning. We show that if the empirical risk minimizers converge as the number of data points goes to infinity, then they converge to an expected risk minimizer.

Abstract:It is proved that the infinitesimal generator A of a strongly continuous semigroup of Linear operators on a Hilbert space also generates a strongly continuous group if and only if the resolvent of -A, (lambda + A)(-1), is also a bounded function on some right-hand-side half plane of complex numbers, and converges strongly to zero as the real part of lambda tends to infinity. An application to a partial differential equation is given.

Abstract:In this paper, by establishing a Borel–Cantelli lemma for a capacity which is not necessarily continuous, and a link between a sequence of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation and a sequence of independent random variables on ℝ∞ under a probability, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions of the strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation, and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of an infinite series of independent random variables, without the assumption on the continuity of the capacities. A purely probabilistic proof of a weak law of large numbers is also given.

Abstract:. We shall give a simple proof of the weak type L 1 inequality for the K -bi-invariant Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions on non-compact real rank one semisimple Lie groups. For higher rank groups we do under an assumption which holds for the most parts. Abstract:Let be a family of open subsets of a topological space X equipped with a nonnegative Borel measure satisfying some basic properties. We establish sharp quantitative weighted norm inequalities for the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator associated with in terms of mixed – constants. The main ingredient to prove this result is a sharp form of a weak reverse Hölder inequality for the weights. As an application of this inequality, we also provide a quantitative version of the open property for weights. Next, we prove a covering lemma in this setting and using this lemma establish the endpoint Fefferman–Stein weighted inequality for the maximal operator . Moreover, vector-valued extensions for maximal inequalities are also obtained in this context.

Abstract:In this note we answer positively to two conjectures proposed by Nieraeth (2023) about the maximal operator on rescaled Banach function spaces. Abstract:Let $M$ denote the centered Hardy--Littlewood operator on $\mathbb{R}$. We prove that \[ {\rm Var} (Mf)\le {\rm Var} (f) - \frac12\big| |f(\infty)|-|f(-\infty)|\big| \] for piecewise constant functions $f$ with nonzero and zero values alternating. The above inequality strengthens a recent result of Bilz and Weigt proved for indicator functions of bounded variation vanishing at $\pm\infty$. We conjecture that the inequality holds for all functions of bounded variation, which is a stronger version of the known conjecture ${\rm Var} (Mf)\le {\rm Var} (f)$. We also obtain the discrete counterpart of our theorem, moreover proving a transference result on equivalency between both settings that is of independent interest.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{E}_n: \mathcal{M} \to \mathcal{M}_n$ and $\mathbf{E}_m: \mathcal{N} \to \mathcal{N}_m$ be two sequences of conditional expectations on finite von Neumann algebras. The optimal weak Orlicz type of the associated strong maximal operator $\mathcal{E} = (\mathbf{E}_n\otimes \mathbf{E}_m)_{n,m}$ is not yet known. In a recent work of Jose Conde and the two first-named authors, it was show that $\mathcal{E}$ has weak type $(\Phi, \Phi)$ for a family of functions including $\Phi(t) = t \, \log^{2+\varepsilon} t$, for every $\varepsilon > 0$. In this article, we prove that the weak Orlicz type of $\mathcal{E}$ cannot be lowered below $L \log^2 L$, meaning that if $\mathcal{E}$ is of weak type $(\Phi, \Phi)$, then $\Phi(s) \not\in o(s \, \log^2 s)$. Our proof is based on interpolation. Namely, we use recent techniques of Cadilhac/Ricard to formulate a Marcinkiewicz type theorem for maximal weak Orlicz types. Then, we show that a weak Orlicz type lower than $L \log^2 L$ would imply a $p$-operator constant for $\mathcal{E}$ smaller than the known optimum as $p \to 1^{+}$.
