Abstract:Aim: To explore the positive mechanism of the cognitive handicap of patients with Parkinson disease in early stage, according to the changes of cognitive function of non-demented and non-depressed patients with Parkinson disease. Methods: The experiment was completed in the Department of Neurology, the First Hospital Affiliated to Suzhou University from January 2001 to March 2002. A total of 31 non-demented and non-depressed patients with Parkinson disease were tested with Oddball auditory stimulation in patient group, and 25 patients, whose age, sex and educational degree were matched each other, were tested with P300 event-related potential in normal control group. Results: The latency of P300 was (355.36 ± 53.73) ms, and the amplitude of wave was (6.16 ± 2.95) μV in patient group. Moreover, the latency of P300 was(313.66 ± 19.11) ms, and the amplitude of wave was(12.35 ± 2.97) μV in normal control group. The statistical analysis showed that the latency of P300 was longer(P < 0.01), and the amplitude of wave was shorter(P < 0.05) in patient group than those of normal control group. Conclusion: The longer latency of event-related potential and the shorter amplitude of wave in non-demented and non-depressed patients with Parkinson disease suggests that different degrees of cognitive dysfunction with dementia or depression exist in patients.
