Abstract:In this study, water-soluble polyester, SIPM-PEG200 and SIPM-PEG400, were synthesized and applied in Ceramic Injection Molding(CIM) as a water-soluble binder. Al2O3 feedstock was prepared by compounding SIPM-PEG, backbone polymers and other additives with Al2O3. Comparing with SIPM-PEG200, feedstock prepared with SIPM-PEG400 has lower viscosity and higher water debinding rate due to the lower sulfonic density in water soluble polymer chain. In addition, the more water-soluble polymer ratio is in the binders, the higher water debinding rate for the feedstock. As exist of hydrogen bond in PVB, feedstock prepared with PVB has higher strength than which prepared with EVA. The melt of feedstock is pseudoplastic and the viscosity is lower than 1000 Pa-s when the shear rate is between 100 s(-1)similar to 2000 s(-1) at 180 degrees C. The theological performance, water debinding rate and strength of the feedstock can meet the technical demand of CIM.
