Abstract:To overcome the failure in eliminating suspicious patterns or association rules existing in traditional association rules mining, we propose a novel method to mine item-item and between-set correlated association rules. First, we present three measurements: the association, correlation, and item-set correlation measurements. In the association measurement, the all-confidence measure is used to filter suspicious cross-support patterns, while the all-item-confidence measure is applied in the correlation measurement to eliminate spurious association rules that contain negatively correlated items. Then, we define the item-set correlation measurement and show its corresponding properties. By using this measurement, spurious association rules in which the antecedent and consequent item-sets are negatively correlated can be eliminated. Finally, we propose item-item and between-set correlated association rules and two mining algorithms, I&ISCoMine_AP and I&ISCoMine_CT. Experimental results with synthetic and real retail datasets show that the proposed method is effective and valid.

Abstract:In order to improve the shortcomings of the original dynamic association rule(DAR for short),this paper presents a new kind of DAR,which can reflect the dynamic information of rule with time better.Its defintions of support vector and confidence vector are accord with the classical defintions of support and confidence.Two new mining algorithms are also provided,which are ITS algorithm and EFP-growth algorithm.ITS algorithm has two stages,and can be well comprehended.EFP-growth algorithm is based on extended FP-tree and suitable for large volumes of data with high density.The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has good performance and is fit for mining DARs.
Effective Mining Algorithm of Association Rules Based on Benefit Measure

Abstract:In association rule mining,the traditional statistical measures,such as support and confidence,tend to generate too many spurious patterns,which cannot reflect user's requirement accurately.In order to solve this problem and obtain rule knowledge based on end users' real demand,this work proposed a new benefit measure according to the view of decision-making.The anti-monotony property about the new measure was proved,and the relationship and transforming method between constraint template and benefit measure were investigated.Moreover,an effective association rule mining algorithm PCBARM was presented.Experimental results showed the effectiveness of the benefit measure and the efficiency of PCBARM algorithm.The proposed measure not only can be used as a general realization algorithm for rule template but also provides more precise control.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem of mining quantitative association rules, an algorithm named Fuzzy Pattern Fusion based on Competitive Agglomeration (FPF-CA) is developed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on the superior functionalities of Fuzzy Pattern Fusion (FPF) for mining quantitative association rules and Competitive Agglomeration (CA) for finding the optimal number of clusters. The popular data set of UCI machine learning repository is used to demonstrate the feasibility of the FPF-CA algorithm. The simulation experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently mine quantitative association rules according to the actual data distribution.

Abstract:Recommender systems make information filtering for user by predicting user’s preference to items. Collaborative filtering is the most popular technique in implementing a recommender system. Association rule mining is a powerful data mining method to search for interesting relationships between items by finding the items frequently appeared together in a transaction database. In this paper, we apply quantitative association rules to mining the relationships between items, and then utilize the relationships between items to alleviate the data sparsity problem in the neighborhood-based algorithms. The proposed method considers not only similarities between users, but also similarities between items. The experimental results on two publicly available datasets show that our algorithm outperforms the conventional Pearson method and adjusted cosine method.
Density-Based Mining of Quantitative Association Rules

Abstract:Many algorithms have been proposed for mining of boolean association rules. However, very little work has been done in mining quantitative association rules. Although we can transform quantitative attributes into boolean attributes, this approach is not effective and is difficult to scale up for high dimensional case and also may result in many imprecise association rules. Newly designed algorithms for quantitative association rules still are persecuted by nonscalable and noise problem. In this paper, an efficient algorithm, QAR-miner, is proposed. By using the notion of "density" to capture the characteristics of quantitative attributes and an efficient procedure to locate the "dense regions", QAR-miner not only can solve the problems of previous approaches, but also can scale up well for high dimensional case. Evaluations on QAR-miner have been performed using both synthetic and real databases. Preliminary results show that QAR-miner is effective and can scale up quite linearly with the increasing number of attributes.

Abstract:Mining association rules are an important data mining problem. In this paper ,an association rules mining algorithm,ARDBSO,which is based on set operation,is given. It can find all large itemsets in the database while only scan the database once. So,the time for I/O is reduced enormously and the efficiency of ARDBSO is improved. The experiments show that the efficiency of ARDBSO is 80～ 150times of Apriori's.

Abstract:Association rules have been widely used for detecting relations between attribute-value pairs of categorical datasets. Existing solutions of mining interesting association rules are based on the support-confidence theory. However, it is non-trivial for the user to understand and modify the rules or the results of intermediate steps in the mining process, because the interestingness of rules might differ largely for various tasks and users. In this paper we propose to reinforce conventional association rule mining process by mapping the entire process into a visualization assisted loop, with which the user workload for modulating parameters and mining rules is reduced, and the mining efficiency is greatly improved. A matrix-based visualization technique is employed to encode the measure computation value, the data distribution and the intermediate results. We also design a set of visual exploration tools to support interactively inspection and manipulation of association measures, constraints of different types, and the results of intermediate steps. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated with various scenarios.

Abstract:Association rule mining is one of the most important and basic technique in data mining,which has been studied extensively and has a wide range of applications.However,as traditional data mining algorithms usually only focus on analyzing data organized in single table,applying these algorithms in multi-relational data environment will result in many problems.This paper summarizes these problems,proposes a framework for the mining of multi-relational association rule,and gives a definition of the mining task.After classifying the existing work into two categories,it describes the main techniques used in several typical algorithms,and it also makes comparison and analysis among them.Finally,it points out some issues unsolved and some future further research work in this area.

Abstract:Association rules is one of the main research fields in data mining, and to gain the more valuable rules is a focus in this field. But most of the most current algorithms can only find out the positive-item rules and the interest measure can only be used as a filter. To solve this problem, an idea to find out the negative-item-contained rules is forword put through modification of the related definition and through the introduction of the negative itemset, based on the previous work. The algorithm based on this idea is also given. Finally, the algorithm is evaluated and analyzed through experiments and practices.

Abstract:Association rule mining is one of the key issues in knowledge discovery. In recent years, negative association rule mining has attracted remarkable attention. This paper presents a notion of validity for both positive and negative association rules, which is considered intuitive and necessary. Then, a mining algorithm to find all rules in light of completeness is proposed. In doing so, several pruning strategies based on the upward closure property are developed and incorporated into the algorithm so as to guarantee the computational efficiency.

Abstract:The problem of association rule mining has gained considerable prominence in the data mining community for its use as an important tool of knowledge discovery from large-scale databases. And there has been a spurt of research activities around this problem. Traditional association rule mining is limited to intra-transaction. Only recently the concept of N -dimensional inter-transaction association rule (NDITAR) was proposed by H.J. Lu. This paper modifies and extends Lu’s definition of NDITAR based on the analysis of its limitations, and the generalized multidimensional association rule (GMDAR) is subsequently introduced, which is more general, flexible and reasonable than NDITAR.

Abstract:In this paper,the problem of discovering association rules between items in a large database of sales transactions is discussed.and a novel algorithm,BitMatrix,is proposed.The proposed algorithm is fundamentally different from the known algorithms Apriori and AprioriTid.Empirical evaluation shows that the algorithm outperforms the known ones for large databases.Scale-up experiments show that the algorithm scales linearly with the number of transactions.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with discovering positive and negative association rules, a problem which has been addressed by various authors from different angles, but for which no fully satisfactory solution has yet been proposed. We catalogue and critically examine the existing definitions and approaches, and we present an a priori-based algorithm that is able to find all valid positive and negative association rules in a support-confidence framework. Efficiency is guaranteed by exploiting an upward closure property that holds for the support of negative association rules under our definition of validity

Abstract:Association rule is an important contribution to the data mining field from the database research community, and its mining has become a promising research topic. Traditional association rule is limited to intra-transaction mining. Recently the concept of multidimensional inter-transaction association rule (MDITAR) is proposed by H.J. Lu. Abstract:The conventional framework for mining association rules is the support-confidence framework which has some limitations.For one thing,it can not prune such useless rules as satisfy both minimum support and minimum confidence with their antecedents and consequents independent.For another thing,it can neither separate the negative association rules from the positive ones.The purposes of this paper are to find a quantitative criterion for mining both positive and negative association rules,and further put forward a novel framework whose efficiency is tested in analyzing a questionnaire.

Abstract:A class-bridge rule is the rule whose antecedent and consequent belong to different conceptual classes. This kind of rules stands for the correlation between conceptual classes. The study on class-bridge rules can benefit many domains such as criminal detection, chemical synthesis, biological grafting, etc. Class-bridge rules are different from other association rules as follows: (1) class-bridge rules can be generated from infrequent itemsets; (2) measurements of class-bridge rules include the distance between conceptual classes and the relation between the antecedents/consequents and their affiliated conceptual classes. This paper proposes an algorithm based on rough sets to mine and evaluate class-bridge rules. The experiment demonstrates its effectiveness.
