Abstract:This paper investigates the stability of a novel hybrid system with the interaction of continuous and discrete states, which is abstracted from a coevolution model of opinions and actions. Following the classical definition of stability, we give the stability definitions suitable for this hybrid system, including local stability, local uniform stability, local asymptotic stability, and local uniform asymptotic stability. Subsequently, stability criteria corresponding to these definitions are provided, which present conditions for a continuous Lyapunov function and a discrete Lyapunov function, respectively, to meet to guarantee the stability of the studied hybrid system. The hybrid Lyapunov function composed of the abovementioned two functions is vital in analyzing the system’s stability. In addition, when the hybrid system is reduced to a system with only the continuous state (that is, a general nonlinear system), the stability criteria can also be reduced to apply to the degenerated system, which is consistent with the classical stability criteria for nonlinear systems. At last, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results through numerical simulations.
