Abstract:Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) in Design explores the potential of computer technologies to help cooperative design. It requires more efficient technologies of communications and reusing knowledge in design process. This paper looks at CSCW in Design on the Semantic Web and shows how the Semantic Web technologies may improve the current design process. It describes using the Semantic Web technologies to represent design knowledge in a unified and formal form that can be understood by both people and machines and shows how this improve all kinds of communication processes in cooperative design. We study the great advantage of sharing and reusing design knowledge on the Semantic Web. This is very helpful in design process, and may completely change the current way of design.

Abstract:As a very important field of CSCW, cooperative edit systems have a rapid development in recent years. Many systems have appeared and put into use. But most of these systems have deficits, such as not supporting the brainstorm edit mode, not marking the users edit process and so on. We have done many things in these directions and have finished a Web-based Real-time Cooperative Edit System(WRCES). WRCES offers the consistency maintenance at the brainstorm edit mode, marking the users edit process and multimedia subsystem. In this paper, we introduce the architecture and the work model of this system.

Abstract:Advanced CSCW technology have a great impact on the communication and cooperation during the design process of products. Distributed Collaborative CAD system are typical application of CSCW in CAD. In this paper, we have a close look at the cooperation behavior and management in distributed collaborative CAD systems. A novel cooperative model which suit for many kinds of multimedia cooperative systems is presented. Finally, we present a prototype system, which adopts a new hybrid architecture by replicating design data and centralizing the control.

Abstract:Welcome to ChineseCSCW2017, the 2017 12th Chinese Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing! This year's ChineseCSCW is sponsored by China Computer Federation (CCF), and organized by Technical Committee on Cooperative Computing (TCCC) of CCF and Southwest University. It's the first time that ChineseCSCW2017 has been an ACM SIGCHI in cooperation conference, whose proceedings are published by ACM ICPS and included in ACM Digital Library. We think this is a fantastic opportunity and start for ChineseCSCW to attract worldwide attentions and connect global Chinese CSCW scholars by cooperation with ACM, the world's largest top educational and scientific society. ChineseCSCW (previously called CCSCW) is a highly influential conference on CSCW and cooperative computing in China with a long history which has been biennially held since 1998 and annually held since 2014. Building academic bridges and platform for both Chinese and overseas CSCW researchers, practitioners and educators, ChineseCSCW investigates innovative models, theories, techniques, algorithms and methods, specially systems and domain-specific applications, for CSCW and social computing from both social and technical aspects. ChineseCSCW consistently follows a rigorous double-blind review process. We had 84 submitted papers and 21 were accepted as full papers (i.e. an acceptance rate of 25%) for presentation at the conference. The program also includes 18 posters and 12 demos. Prof. Ning Zhong of Maebashi Institute of Technology, Japan will open the conference, speaking on Big Data Based Wisdom Service: A Brain Informatics Based Systematic Approach.

Abstract:The main issue in designing the structure for CSCW systems is to provide efficient collaboration mechanisms. A hierarchical collaboration mechanism scheme was proposed which consists of three levels: system-oriented, application-oriented and operation object-oriented collaboration support. In accordance to this hierarchical collaboration mechanism, a platform-based architecture of CSCW systems was explored that can accommodate multiple cooperative applications. With providing all of the three-layer cooperation mechanisms, multimedia desktop conference system TH-MDCS can support geographically separative group members which are of different fields, seated at their desks, cooperating at the same time or at different time by means of sharing information in such multimedia forms as video, audio, image, graphics and text to carry out various tasks together.

Abstract:With the development of computer network technology, research in Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) systems is becoming popular. CSCW has the potential of providing the environment needed for groups of diverse users to cooperate in order to achieve their common goals. Our current research has mainly focused on those extensions to a 4DSMM (4D Site Management Model) concept necessary to provide a wider scope that also allows cooperative work and information sharing by Internet for different project teams, and the development of a new experimental system. This paper presents a new 4D-CSCW model for construction management through integrating CSCW technology with the existing 4DSMM, and discusses the features of this newly extended model based on studying the cooperative work and communication methods of construction management and the regulation of data flow in construction process. The techniques for applying the model in construction management practice are then described.

Abstract:Different from multi-user database management systems, CSCW system must support group awareness explicitly, namely that participants should perceive the presence of each other during the process of cooperating, which is essential to effective collaboration. In this paper we firstly analyze and compare several means of supporting sensibility, then investigate the model of collaborative design and suggest achieving group awareness by product data which forms the foundation of relationship among designers. The information model and the shared workspace organization of CECAD (Collaborative Environment for Computer-Aided Design, a prototype system we developed) are presented and its group awareness supporting mechanism is described in succession.

Abstract:Computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) has led to great advances in CAD technologies. However, problems still remain. One of these problems is the difficulty to combine strong collaboration performance with powerful application function in computer supported cooperative design (CSCD) system. This paper explores solutions to this problem. We present a new approach to develop CSCD system based on single user CAD system. We used a novel collaboration framework to maintain the benefits of CSCW transparency and awareness while relieving their disadvantages. The kernel of the framework relies on CoCADToolAgent, a software agent. The communication support, protocol handling, consistency maintenance and concurrency control, group awareness, collaboration tasks and user roles management had been implemented. As an instance of this approach, we use the CoCADToolAgent to transform the commercial 2D CAD system--AutoCAD into a CSCD prototype system. As a special collaboration tool for CAD applications, CoCADtoolAgent revealed better collaboration performance than the general collaboration toolkits, such as Microsoft NetMeeting. The approach can be extended to 3D CAD system.

Abstract:Practically, business activities that have traditionally been conducted via physical mechanisms are being conducted virtually by means of computer technologies. Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) has been receiving more and more attention both in academia and industry of recent years. However, socio-technical influences on process performance of CSCW have been placed a vital role and need more emphasis. This paper provides an integrated insight into performance of CSCW process drawn on relevant socio-technical perspectives and theory construction methodology. This study presents a new lens and theoretical framework which describes detailed dimensions of transactive memory systems (TMS). This framework researches the process performance of CSCW through knowledge resource benefits in contemporary society and has superior explanatory power. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:This proceeding is a collection of invited contributions from the presenters and the participants of the 2024 9th International Conference on Computer-Aided Design, Manufacturing, Modeling and Simulation (CDMMS 2024), held in Busan, South Korea during May 11-12, 2024. The aim of this conference is to present the latest research and results of scientists related to computer-aided design, advanced manufacturing, modeling, and simulation topics. CDMMS 2024 provides opportunities for the different areas delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration. We hope that the conference results constituted significant contribution to the knowledge in these scientific fields. Distinguished researchers from South Korea, China, India, and Hong Kong (China) were invited to deliver keynote address regarding the latest research discoveries in their respective areas of expertise. Each presentation made by authors was confined in 20 minutes, following by questions and answers. We hope that all the participants will get large opportunities to widen their knowledge and network. All accepted papers were subject to peer-review by conference committee and invited reviewers. The papers were selected based on their quality and their relevance to the conference. Abstract:The existing knowledge management system for CSCWD is analyzed. We aim at the shortages that the design knowledge can't be transmitted actively to the proper designer at the proper time in the present system, a framework based on knowledge management and driven by workflow is proposed and its main levels are analyzed. A novel active pushing method driven by workflow is proposed. The design task, design subtask, designer and design knowledge are studied in terms of the match method between design knowledge and designer. A two-step match method is proposed after their contents are analyzed. Finally a prototype system based on knowledge management and driven by workflow is developed and an example for eddy current retarder design is given

Abstract:Conceptual design is important in that it determines the creativity of products, which is key to the competition of the product market and the function and cost of product are mainly determined in this phase. At the same time it is complex in that it involves the consideration of many different fields in the whole design process. Studying some computer supported cooperative techniques to support effective conceptual design activity is absolutely necessary. This paper presents the models and tools of computer supported cooperative conceptual design (CSCCD) which includes an auto‐resolving model, a human‐human interaction model, automatic cooperation tools and interactive cooperation tools. Experiments have been carried out in the conceptual design of a motorcycle to put the above theories into application.
