Abstract:Three unsymmetrical bolaform surfactants with different aromatic rings and a ω-carboxyalkyl chain were synthesized and their molecular structures were characterized by ESI–MS and 1H NMR. The percentages of conversion of alkylation were judged by the iodine value measurements and the effect of reaction temperature on sulfonate content of synthesized products has also been discussed.

Abstract:Alkyl glycosides were synthesised from starch and alcohols using Aspergillus oryzae alpha-amylase as catalyst. The surface plot of objective function is drawn by Minitab in order to more directly reflect the interaction between the various factors that affect the sugar conversion rate and the role of strength for interaction between the various experimental factors. The result shows that in the reaction with methanol, methyl maltoside and methyl maltotrioside were the main alcoholysis products. It is seen that there is strong interaction among the various experimental factors. When catalyst mass concentration is 10%, reaction time is 1 h, reaction ratio is 1, sugar conversion rate is 98.80%. Response surface methodology (RSM) could be effectively adopted to optimize the operating multifactor in synthesis of alkyl glycosides nonionic surfactant process.

Abstract:A metal-free, efficient and environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of aryldiazo sulfones from aryltriazenes and sodium aryl/alkyl sulfinates is described. The procedure exploits the unique properties of aryltriazenes as aryl-azo precursors of aryldiazonium cation and sodium sulfinates as easy-to-handle aryl/alkyl sulfonyl reagents. The distinctive features of this reaction include very mild reaction condition, wide functional group tolerance, green reaction system, short reaction time, good to excellent yields and gram-scalability. This work offers a safe and potential alternative to reported methods in the synthesis of aryldiazo sulfones.

Abstract:A series of novel sodium 2-alkyl-5-(ethoxycarbonyl)-1,3-dioxane-5-carboxylate surfactants were synthesized in high yield using nanosolid superacid sulfonated carbon as a catalyst and characterized by H-1 NMR, IR and elemental analysis. Critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the surfactants was determined and the results showed that the CMC values were less than 1.0 x 10(-3) mol/l.other relevant surface properties were also evaluated, such as emulsion stability, foam ability and degradability. In relation to emulsion formation, foam stability and the range of application of temperature, the new surfactants showed better properties than traditional surfactants when used as an emulsifier in emulsion polymerization. Moreover, the surfactants were stable under alkaline and neutral conditions, and degraded into raw materials under acid condition. Convenient synthesis process with high yield and superior properties promisingly make the title compounds to be a type of ` environmentally friendly' surfactants.

Abstract:A new strategy for direct access to an unreported α-cyanato-α'-carbonyl sulfoxonium ylides is reported. The developed open-flask operation is catalyst-, metal- and additive-free green process, which has good compatibility with various substituents and generally excellent yields. This protocol can be applied to gram-scale reaction and modification of bioactive drugs which demonstrated the practicality of this method.

Abstract:A simple and effective chemical method based on Mannich reaction, sulfonation, and acylation was adopted to anchor the hydrophilic sulfonic groups and lipophilic long carbon chains onto alkaline lignin. The obtained products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis, and the surface activity was evaluated by interfacial tension, which was determined by a maximum bubble pressure method. The results demonstrated that the ASAL showed high surface activity in comparison to lignosulfonate and the interfacial tension reached 5.0 (10(-3)Nm(-1)) when the mass fraction of ASAL was 5%, in agreement with the properties of good surfactants.** [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:Abstract A series of high purity monoalkyl methylnaphthalene intermediates were prepared by alkylation of β-methylnaphthalene with a series of different chain lengths of n-bromoalkanes. Gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were used as appropriate methods for this technology. The reaction conditions were optimized. The effect of dosage of catalysts, the molar ratio of β-methyl naphthalene to bromoalkane and of the solvent to β-methyl naphthalene, the reaction time as well as the temperature had also been investigated in detail. The optimal reaction conditions of alkylation have been achieved, and the reaction results were discussed. Based on the optimal reaction conditions, a series of monoalkylmethylnaphthalene intermediates, hexyl-, octyl-, decyl-, dodecyl-, tetra-decyl-methyl-naphthalenes had been prepared.
A novel method for synthesizing amphoteric surfactants of amino-sulfonic acid series

Abstract:A novel method for synthesizing the amino-sulfonic acid series amphoteric surfactants was developed.Alkyl amine,formaldehyde and inorganic sulfonating reagents(NaHSO3 or Na2SO3) were used as the starting materials and an acidic intermediate was prepared in the first and second two steps.Then,with the third step of solid phase salt forming reaction,the final product was obtained.Factors that effect the reaction were studied.The optimal conditions are as follows:m(alkyl amine)∶m(HCHO)∶m(inorganic sulfonating reagent)=1.0∶1.6∶3.5.The first step reaction time is 4.5 h～5.0 h at pH=11.0～12.0 and 50 ℃～60 ℃.The second step reaction time is 6.0 h at pH=1.8～2.0.The third step reaction was carried at a molar ratio of n(acid product)∶n(NaOH)=1.0∶2.0～1.0∶2.05.The product yield achieves 86.7%.The results also indicated that temperature and pH are the main factors that effect the reaction.The filtrate of the first and second two reactions can be recycled and reused,so that the waste water formed from the process can be minimized.

Abstract:A new method of synthesis, a series of pure dialkylbenzenesulfonates, is described. The benzene ring carries one major alkyl substituent, consisting of a chain of sixteen carbon atoms long and one additional methyl or ethyl group. Many side reactions were avoided using PPA instead of AlCl3. Good results were also obtained because we chose the iodine modified by red phosphorus as the reducing agent. Products were characterized by 1HMNR. Surface tensions of aqueous surfactant solutions were measured at 20C, using the plate method. Effects of the position of the benzene ring on the carbon chain and the length of the short alkyl substituent were studied.

Abstract:A series of 1-(2-(alkylamino)-2-oxoethyl) pyridinium chloride surfactants was designed and synthesised by two steps. Four new compounds were obtained. The structures of all the synthesised compounds have been characterised by IR, 1H NMR and elemental analyses. Surface activity and antibacterial activity of 1-(2-(alkylamino)-2-oxoethyl) pyridinium chloride surfactants were investigated. The critical micelle concentration and C20 values of the synthesised surfactants are low. The synthesised surfactants have good antibacterial activity for sulfate-reducing bacteria, metatrophic bacteria and iron bacteria in oil field injection water.

Abstract:A novel itaconate-based surfactant, namely sodium n -octyl sulfoitaconate diester (SOSID), has been synthesized from itaconic acid (IA) and n -octanol by sulfonation and esterification reaction processes. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratios of n -octanol to IA and the catalyst dosage on the esterification were investigated. The chemical structure of the surfactants SOSID was characterized by means of LC–MS and confirmed by FT-IR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. The surface tension γ and the critical micelle concentration (CMC) were determined as 25.02 mN/m and 4.0 × 10 −4 mol/L by using surface tensiometer at 20 °C. Further investigations showed that SOSID possess excellent wetting, emulsifying and lime soap dispersing properties.

Abstract:In the manuscript, two sulphonate-crown ether surfactants (sodium (4′-dodecanoyldibenzo-18-crown-6)-4″(5″)-sulphonate, ammonium (4′-dodecanoyldibenzo-18-crown-6)-4″(5″)-sulphonate) were designed and synthesized by a two-step continuous method. The synthesized sulphonate-crown ether surfactants were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. The physicochemical properties of the surfactants were studied by fluorescence, conductivity and dynamic light scattering techniques.

Abstract:A series of cationic surfactants,N-allyl-2-alkyl pyridinium chlorides(GS-n),were prepared from long-chain alkyl pyridine and allyl chloride,and their surface activity were evaluated adopting surface tension method.The results showed that GS-n exhibited capability in reducing the surface tension of water;the lowest CMC(concentration of criticle lump scrap) of the Nallyl-2-cetyl pyridinium chloride(GS-16) was 0.527 mmol·L~(-1); their CMC were lower obviously with the lengthening of alkyl chain;γ_(cmc) values were decreased firstly and then increased;the lowest γ_(cmc) value of GS-12 was 27.1 mN·m~(-1).

Abstract:A dehydrative cross-coupling of unactivated allylic alcohols with sulfinic acids was achieved under catalyst-free conditions. This reaction proceeded via allyl sulfination and concomitant allyl sulfinate-sulfone rearrangement. Various allylic sulfones could be obtained in good to excellent yields with water as the only byproduct. This study expands the synthetic toolbox for constructing allylic sulfone molecules.
