Abstract:In this paper, in order to miniaturize the thermoacoustic devices, we designed the first coaxial traveling wave thermoacoustic engine and successfully operated it.The coaxial traveling wave thermoacoustic engine is composed of a 1/4-wavelength reasonator filled with nitrogen and a local traveling-wave loop that contains hot and cold heat exchangers, a regenerator and an inertance tubes necessary to force the nitrogen to execute the Stirling cycle. The center of the regenerator has a hollow hole in which the inertance tube is placed, so the structure of the engine is very compact. The fascinating thing is that the on-set temperature of the engine is 105degreesC, which is the lowest temperature in all of other thermoacoustic engines, and this is a good progress in the field. It means that a lot of waste heat with low quality can be used to run a thermoacoustic prime mover. The influence of mean pressure, mesh size and regenerator length on the overall performance were measured and analyzed.
