Flexible Design Modeling Methodology for MEMS Based on Petri Net

Abstract:Micro-scale effect and multi-field coupling are characteristics of the design of micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). However, the current macroscopic structure-oriented CAD systems have not been able to meet the increasing requirements for the design in micrometer scale. Therefore, a flexible design modeling methodology for MEMS based on Petri net is put forward. Firstly, the highly cohesive and low coupling modules are obtained via refining and abstracting the existing CAD systems on the basis of analyzing the design characteristics, framework and process of MEMS. Secondly, the flexible design modeling framework for MEMS based on Petri net is built by associating the Petri net with the modules of the design system. Then, the forward-position places and weighted directed arcs are added to regulate the maximum and minimum tokens of the places to control the number of design flow. Afterwards, the control places are added to format control loops and make concurrent transitions occur orderly to solve the conflicts in concurrent design. Finally, the modules are controlled to operate with the state space results of Petri net. The multiple relationships between the complex design flows are then realized. An independent prototype system using ACIS as geometry modeling kernel has been developed to validate the proposed method with the design of capacitive 3D silicon micro comb drive. The test results proved that the present design methods are extended from top-down, bottom-up and hybrid to flexible design based on Petri net. The product design is no longer restricted to fixed process. It has important significance to improve efficiency and quality of the design of MEMS.

Abstract:An emergency control system for shipping is an indispensable part of the modern maritime operation system. Petri nets are useful for describing and studying information processing systems that are characterized as being concurrent, distributed parallel and asynchronous. In this paper, a generalized stochastic Petri net with finite capacity and inhibitor arc is exploited to model the emergency control system for shipping. The obtained model is analyzed using the software of PIPE. The analyzed results on modeling time and resource performance show that the obtained model is able to describe well the real physics system and provide some suggestion on improving the performance of the emergency control system for shipping.

Abstract:The paper analyzes the demand about the product modeling for network-base collaborative product development, then presents a product model family-based integrated product model (PMFIPM), which can provide information to all application domains of product development. This model can achieve collaboration control by protocol of concurrent control, and maintain consistency of itself by modeling the association between models and build up the coordinated-protocol of the product data. It can provide basis for the network-based collaborative product development.

Firstly, the paper gives the framework of the MAPMNM. Secondly, it elaborates on the web services, the architecture and running menchanism of the domain agent in MAPMNM.

Abstract:A project management model based on Petri net is introduced. The whole model is divided into four components: the planning, monitoring, predicting and resource allocating Petri nets. The solution methods for presenting the Petri nets, project monitoring, allocating resources and mediating the resource conflict are discussed. The model can satisfy the requirements of concurrent planning and design in project management.

Abstract:To effectively control distributed and heterogeneous flow of knowledge in network environment,resource space model was introduced to depict knowledge in network environment,and a method was presented to depict knowledge matrix in resource space model.In terms of process control modeling elements of knowledge-flow,process control model of network knowledge-flow was constructed.Finally,the study results were used in eddy current retarder collaborative design,and a prototype system was developed to support the control of network knowledge-flow in product collaborative design.

Abstract:A novel theoretical model of the component agent was proposed based on multi-layer finite state machine (FSM) and the requirements of collaborative design. And a new collaborative design-oriented product data model (CDPDM) was put forward. The CDPDM included three basic data modules (function data, structure data and management data) and a remote data modification module. This model had five characteristics: neutral representation, reusability, knowledge engineering, remote data modification and self-management. By combining the theoretical agent model with the CDPDM, a product component agent frame was proposed and some key issues, e. g. environment model construction, program and data encapsulation, software reuse and strategy set organization, were discussed. The practical application in demonstration enterprise shows that the proposed system can enhance the ability of the collaborative product design.

Abstract:An approach for multi-disciplinary process modeling based on the extended Petri net and NSGA-II algorithm was presented to support multi-disciplinary optimization of process modeling of conceptual design for complex product, solve function in conceptual design, and determine product synthesis optimal design. The important function of conceptual design was analyzed in multi-disciplinary optimization according to characteristics of the design process of complex product, and the establishment of Petri net model and implementation of NSGA-II algorithm were given. A method based on transition sequences of the extended Petri net model used as NSGA-II algorithm chromosomes, combined with the selection and crossover operator of Petri net model elements to carry on NSGA-II optimization operation was implemented. The modeling method was applied to an industrial steam turbine design project for instance, and results demonstrated that it can give Pareto optimal solutions for the different design request under various circumstances, and it was a practical valid method for process modeling of conceptual design for complex product.

Abstract:To flexibly integrate various systems at different stages and improve the openness and reusability of information in remote collaborative product development, a framework of integrated product modeling based on Web Services is presented The integrated model consists of a master model and application models that combine static and dynamic information supporting whole product lifecycle. The master model contains the core and shared information. The application model relating to specific manufacture domain is built up by extracting the master model and complementing domain information. The flexible integration of heterogeneous systems is ensured by the use of Web Services. The openness and expansibility are preserved by combining STEP and XML for information representation and exchange. The high reusability of product information is achieved by using a service-oriented multi-granularity schema The information consistency among the master model and application models is maintained through a coordinated-protocol for rapidly acquiring alteration and reacting to it.

Abstract:For a complex electromechanical product that is a cyber–physical system (CPS), its dynamic behaviors are embodied in the closed-loop control between the logic process in its cyber component and actual actuators/sensors in its physical component, and thus, a well-defined model of the control is important to create a digital twin that acts as much like the real machine as possible. This article proposes a Petri nets (PNs)-based modeling solution that employs hybrid PNs (HPNs) for physics and system of sequential systems with shared resources (S4R) nets for logic in building a hierarchical control model. We also present PNs technologies for implementing a smooth transition and bidirectional mapping from the virtual prototype to the real machine. These technologies involve a PNs integration of a reinforcement learning (RL) method for generating a workflow scheduling agent in design, an extension of PNs definitions that is compatible with the microcontroller for easy deployment in manufacturing, and an architecture of PNs execution recording for data-driven monitoring in service. A software kit is provided for the solution that includes an integrated development environment of PNs, tools for quickly building a virtual prototype, and a monitor server for remote data-driven monitoring. This solution is successfully applied in the development of a typical cyber–physical product case, namely, the chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) analyzer.

Abstract:Many multi-national companies have operations in geographically different locations. They need to communicate and work concurrently on large amount of complex product data with their factories, sub-contractors as well as suppliers across the border. The use of e-mail and fax are far from satisfactory as they are time consuming and ineffective. In this paper, a web-based collaborative product design platform is proposed which enables authorized users in geographically different locations to have access to the company’s product data such as product drawing files stored at designated servers and carry out product design work simultaneously and collaboratively on any operating systems. There is no need for the users to install any utility software at their ends since the access is based on a remote screen sharing technique built upon a Browser/Server and thin client technology. This results in substantial saving in the cost and the product development time in a network environment.

Abstract:In this paper, a hybrid Petri net-based hierarchical control and modeling framework for real-time process procedural control is introduced. The new modeling tool, called as hybrid predicate Petri net, is an extension of hybrid Petri net and Predicate/Transition net, in which the firing speeds of its continuous transitions are changeable and controlled by upper level and continuous mathematical model. Predicates are introduced to discrete transitions to represent the various constraints possibly existing in process systems. Definition of net structure and running rules of the hybrid predicate Petri net are provided. On the basis of supervisory model, the issues of safety verification, optimization of control parameters and scheduling of operating sequences are discussed. At last, a distillation column is used as an example for modeling and analysis.

Abstract:This paper presents a modeling method for constructing a web based collaborative design system. The design modules are composed of central design module and discipline design sub module. The central design module, which is constructed by the design team according to the product performance requirement of the user, is a managing and controlling module of design project. The discipline design sub module, which is constructed according to the related disciplines of the product design project, encapsulates the design knowledge, application program and tool software of different aspects of the design. Framework of the system provides coherent design representation language, collaboration, conflict resolution and information exchange mechanism among the modules. Supported by the framework, the design modules connected together by Web form an open and collaborative integrated design system. An example of surface topography design of rolled steel sheet is introduced to show constructing method of multi discipline collaborative design modules.

Abstract:Cross-organizational collaboration encompasses two main factors: the coordination of information flows among organizations and the autonomy of each participant. An approach based on public-view and Object Petri net will be proposed in this paper, which is inspired by the similarity between cross-organizational workflow modeling and Object Petri net. The public view of each organization is the external projection of actions that are relevant for partners, which hides the details of the internal process. The information flow net of organizational coordination is constructed by the composition of each participant's public view, and the synchronization relationship between the organization's internal processes and communication structure is established by the interaction set of Object Petri net. A modeling instance demonstrates the effectiveness of the approach.

Abstract:An accurate and reliable Railway Driving Safety System has to be adaptable and flexible for changing requirements coming from various safety-protecting devices. Petri Net with Object (PNO) is introduced to model this system in order to overcome the disadvantages using traditional modeling techniques. The structure of the PNO possesses the characteristics of small scale and flexibility, modularization and operability, so that system model can be partitioned and modeled in separate dynamic active objects according to process approach. Workflow among these objects can be dynamically adaptive allowing for the subsystem change. Some examples suggest the advantages of this contribution.

Abstract:In this paper, a knowledge resource and grid idea based collaborative product design supporting platform was proposed which emphasized on the efficient organization and management of design supporting resources, and instead the database of traditional product design system with a dynamic and scale-free resource network. Furthermore, a new concept of scale-free product design resource network was proposed and used to discover the topology of the design resource network, and enable the design resource management more efficient and help to optimize the design resource configuration. Furthermore, a six-tiers platform architecture was proposed which enables substantial saving in the cost and the product development time in a network environment. The concept of scale-free network, the architecture of the platform, the involved key technologies and the application of a prototype were discussed.

Abstract:Industrial design is a requisite and incontrovertible front-end design for Industrie 4.0 to realize personalization, agility, intelligence, and standardization, so it has very important practical significance to achieve industrial design collaborative workflow flexible management. This paper proposed a hierarchical colored Petri net (HCPN) for modeling the industrial design collaborative system workflow, which aims to provide a valid workflow model for the process management of the industrial design collaborative system. First, it is built the top-level workflow CPN model from product planning, markets research, product design, and product evaluation to prototype production, then the model is extended layer by layer to build the subnet model by the model refinement method. In the model, the activity of the workflow and the activity execution results are represented by the transitions (T) and places (S), respectively. The running state of the whole workflow is represented by the distribution of the token in the places. The token' color sets expresses the real-time discrete state. By use of the function of token coloring places (S) and the token' color sets of HCPN, this paper extracts the common characteristics of process knowledge, including markets research results, design ideas, conceptual sketches, design schemes, human resources, and tacit creative knowledge ,then uses the what, when, where, who, and how method to build knowledge information units for specific design event. Thus, realizes the industrial design process knowledge base construction and knowledge acquisition, which provides the necessary information and knowledge resources for the design reuse, flexibility management, and intelligent manufacturing of subsequent products.
