Abstract:Using the tetrahydrofuran (THF) as solvent and 40% benzyl trimethyl ammonium hydroxide methanol solution as catalyst, the octaphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane ((C6H5)8T8) was synthesized via the hydrolytic condensation of phenyltrichlorosilane. The obtained (C6H5)8T8 was proved to be precise and pure by FT-IR and 29Si-NMR; then with the help of aqueous tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) and using the THF as solvent, via the corner-opening reaction; the synthesized (C6H5)8T8 was reacted into the incompletely condensed POSS. In order to suppress the by-product reactions, the corner-opening reaction temperature, time and the amount of catalyst used should be well controlled. The structure of the corner-opening reaction product was determined and validated by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FT-IR, elementary analysis and MALDI-TOF MS. The results indicate that the main product of the corner-opening reaction is heptaphenyltrisilanol-POSS, and its initial decomposing temperature analyzed by TGA is 516.1℃ (5%(wt) weight loss), which suggests that the obtained heptaphenyltrisilanol-POSS has good thermal stability. Compared with literature works, the reaction time of this work is much shorter and thus the yield is increased, which would make the POSS be more useful in the syntheses of organic-inorganic hybrid materials.

Abstract:A dihydromyrcenol type of silane coupling agent,[2,6-dimethyl-8-(triethoxysilyl)octan-2-ol](DHMS) is prepared through hydrosilylation reaction of dihydromyrcenol with triethoxysilane using platinum complexes(Pt-PMVS) as a catalyst.The target product and by-products were characterized by means of GC-MS and 1HNMR.The effect of reaction conditions,such as solvent,reaction time,reaction temperature and Pt content,on the reaction products were investigated.Under the optimized reaction conditions,side reactions could be curbed effectively,and the DHMS was obtained with a yield of up to 69.7% and with its purity higher than 98% in weight.

Abstract:4,4'-Bis(dimethoxyphosphonomethyl)-diphenyl was synthesized from trimethoxyfosfin and halogenated hydrocarbons.Effect of molar ratio,reaction time,temperature and amount of solvent on the yield was investigated.The experimental results showed that the yield of 4,4'-bis(dimethoxyphosphonomethyl)-diphenyl was about 91.5%,purity was 98.6% under the following conditions:dichloromethyl biphenyl∶trimethyl phosphite(molar ratio) was 3∶1,temperature was 110 ℃,time was 2 h and solventamount was 160 mL.

Abstract:A kind of hydrogenous siloxane oligomers containing phenyl was synthesized by hydrolytic condensation between phenyltrimethoxysilane and tetramethyldisiloxane,in the presence of a solid acid catalyst,and the relative content of 1,3-diphenyl-1,1,3,3-tetrakis(dimethylsiloxy)disiloxane was 42.6%.Then it was rectified under the pressure of 0.665 kPa,and 1,3-diphenyl-1,1,3,3-tetrakis(dimethylsiloxy)disiloxane with a puirty up to 97.5%was obtained.The product was characterized by IR,GC-MS and NMR.Result showed that the structure of the target product matched that of 1,3-diphenyl-1,1,3,3-tetrakis(dimethylsiloxy)disiloxane perfectly.

Abstract:Several AlCl_3 supported catalysts were prepared and used in the redistribution reaction of methyltrichlorosilane and trimethylchlorosilane to produce dimethyldichlorosilane.The features of the catalysts were investigated.Also L_(16)(4~5) orthogonal experiments were carried out to study the effects of reaction temperature,reaction time,catalyst quantity and mol ratio of reaction materials on the yield of dimethyldichlorosilane.The results show that the most predominated factors for the yield are reaction temperature and catalyst quantity.Under the optimum reaction conditions,the yield of dimethyldichlorosilane can reach to 60.6%.
STUDY ON REACTION OF DICHLORODIMETHYLSILANE AND DIMETHYLCYCLOPOLYSILOXANE WITH ~1H NMR

Abstract:The ~1H NMR spectra of mixtures of dichlorodimethylsilane, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and α,ω-dichloropolydimethylsiloxane Cl-Si(CH_3)_2[OSi(CH_3)_2]_nCl with various n values were measured and a quantitative relationship was derived. Our results indicated that ~1H NMR method can be used to investigate the reaction between dichlorodimethylsilane and dimethylcyclopolysiloxanes.The reaction between dichlorodimethylsilane and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane with different Cl/Si ratios(R) and under different temperature has been studied. It has been found that n values can be controlled and the equilibrium constants at 220℃ and 200℃ for the interaction of two end groups giving middle group plus a dichlorodimethylsilane molecule are 0.11 and 0.10 respectively. The mechanism of the above reaction was proposed.

Abstract:Several diamidodisilanes and azocyclosilane were prepared from the resultants of Wurtz coupling reaction between dichlorosilane and sodium and characterized by 1H NMR and FT-IR. The two split peaks of the stretching vibration bonds of Si-H bonds in compounds 1 and 3 were firstly found at 2163 cm-1 and 2100 cm-1 respectively. The density functional theory was adopted to calculate the several stable geometrical isomerism structures of compounds 1 and 3. The results of the calculations show that the peak split of Si-H bonds stretching vibration absorption was caused by the different geometrical isomers of the compounds and the calculated IR spectra of compounds 1 and 3 are much closer to the experimental results. The processes of hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions of the synthetic compounds were studied by FT-IR. At the same time, the transition of Si-H bonds split peaks was observed in this procedure. As the results of the hydrolysis and condensation reactions, a new type of organic silicon polymer, polyoxydisilane was obtained, which presents the photoluminescence of the polysilanes.

Abstract:Hydroxyl terminated polymethylphenylsiloxane was prepared via hydrolysis /condensation of di-methoxymethylphenylsilane in water with hydrochloric acid as a catalyst .The structure of the product was characterized by FTIR、 NMR and MADLI-TOF/TOF MS, and the behavior of hydrolysis and condensation was proposed .Result shows that the product consists of linear hydroxyl terminated polymethylphenylsiloxane oligomers with an average molecular weight of 862 and tetramer is the major component .

Abstract:Poly(phenylene silane)s were constructed by step-growth copolymerization between difunctional Grignard reagents and dichlorodimethylsilane in moderate yields. 1H NMR spectroscopy confirmed the structure of the desired copolymers. Gel permeation chromatography showed narrow molecular dispersibility and conceivable molecular weights. Based on thermogravimetric analysis and luminescence studies, the synthesized copolymers were found to act as potential emitters in organic light-emitting diode displays.

Abstract:Organosilicon resin microparticles with phenyl and aminopropyl groups were prepared via the hydrolytic co-condensation of phenyltriethoxysilane(PTES),γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APS) and diphenyldimethoxysilane(DDS) under the catalysis of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH ). Various influencing factors on the hydrolytic co-condensation reaction such as PTES/APS/DDS(mole ratio), TMAOH amounts, temperature, agitation speed and the mode of addition were discussed.The product structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) and thermogravimetry analysis(TG).The results showed that the optimum conditions of the formation of organosilicon resin microparticles were 0.2%~0.4% of mass fraction of TMAOH, 0.35～2.00 of APS/(DDS+PTES) (mole ratio), 1.8 of PTES/DDS(mole ratio), 20 ℃ ,300 r/min and the mode of dropwise addition.The occurrence of hydrolytic co-condensation among PTES, APS and DDS was proved.

Abstract:A methoxy-polyoxyethylene-propyl-trimethoxysilane was synthesized with methoxy-polyoxyethylene monopropyl ether and trimethoxysilane by hydrosilylation reaction.The influence of reaction time,reaction temperature,the amount of catalyst,the molar ratio of reactants and the molecular weight of methoxy-polyoxyethylene monopropyl ether on the conversion ratio of methoxy-polyoxyethylene monopropyl ether were discussed.The results indicate that the conversion yield of methoxy-polyoxyethylene monopropyl ether that their molecular weights are 320,560,760 is 98.7%、95.2% and 93.0% respectively under the molar ratio of methoxy-polyoxyethylene monopropyl ether to trimethoxy silane is 1∶1.2,reaction temperature is 85 ℃,reaction time is 8h and the amount of catalyst is 35×10-6.The structure and composition and molecular weight of the methoxy-polyoxyethylene-propyl-trimethoxysilane were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrum（FT-IR） and nuclear magnetic resonance（1H-NMR） and gel permeation chromatography（GPC）.

Abstract:Phenyl silicones were prepared by acid-catalyzed controlled hydrolytic polycondensation of phenyltriethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane and dimethyldiethoxysilane. The silicones were used as flame retardants in PC materials. The effects of the mole fractions of three monomers on flame resistance were studied. When silicone with phenyl groups at 80.0%～90.0%(mol) and D contents at 20.0%～40.0%(mol) was most suitable. The chemical structure of silicone in which the mole fraction of PTES/DPDS/DMDS was 75.0/18.8/6.2 was characterized by TGA and DSC.

Abstract:Methylphenyldichlorosilane was synthesized using methyldichlorosilane and chlorobenzene as raw materials and chloroform as the catalyst by an adaptation of the gas phase catalytic condensation method.The reaction yield and selectivity were measured by gas chromatography.The influence of the temperature,pressure and space time on the yield and selectivity was studied.The optimal reaction conditions were:temperature=600 ℃,pressure≥0.5 MPa,and space time=46.9～70.4 s.The highest product yield and selectivity were,respectively,32.8% and 34.3%,which were obtained with the reaction conditions of 0.56% CHCl3,600 ℃,0.7 MPa and 56.3 s space time.

Abstract:A series of poly(multidimethylsiloxane-1,4-ethynylenephenyleneethynylene)s were synthesized by condensation reactions of 1,4-diethynylbenzene magnesium reagents with various α,ω-dichlorodimethylsiloxanes. The polymers obtained were solids or viscous liquids and are soluble in common organic solvents at room temperature. The structures and properties of the polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. DSC analyses showed that these polymers can be thermally cured to form highly crosslinked structures. DMA studies revealed that the glass transition temperatures of the cured polymers decreased with increasing siloxane chain length. TGA measurements showed that the cured polymers were thermally stable up to almost 450 °C in both N2 and air. With increasing length of the siloxane units, the thermal stability of the cured polymers decreased. Silicon oxycarbide ceramics with high thermal stability were produced when the cured polymers were pyrolyzed at 1200 °C under argon. Abstract:Dimethyldichlorosilane is the most important monomer in the synthesis of widely used organosilicon materials. A vast number of silicone by-products are produced during the industrial synthesis of dimethyldichlorosilane. Disproportionation reaction can effectively utilize methyltrichlorosilane and trimethylchlorosilane to prepare dimethyldichlorosilane. The DFT theory and the M06-2X/def2-TZVP hybridization functional approach were used in this study to investigate the mechanism of the NH 2 -MIL-53(Al)-catalyzed disproportionation process before and the after AlCl 3 modification. The findings demonstrate that the catalytic activity of modified AlCl 3 /NH 2 -MIL-53(Al) is superior to that of NH 2 -MIL-53(Al), and the results of frequency vibration, IRC analysis, bond level analysis, and electronic fixed-domain state analysis are all in agreement with the reaction mechanism. For the disproportionation-based production of dimethyldichlorosilanes, new catalyst selection options are available.

Abstract:A series of poly[(methylsilylene ethynylenephenyleneethynylene)-co-(dimethylsilylene ethynylenephenyleneethynylene)] s were synthesized by the incorporation of various ratios of methylsilylene to dimethylsilylene units into the polymer chain backbone. The resultant copolymers were soluble in a variety of common organic solvents at room temperature. The copolymers were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC, rheological analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that the copolymers exhibited good processability and cured at low temperatures like 200°C. The curing reactions involved in hydrosilylation of Si-H and alkyne groups and the polymerization of alkynes. T d5 (5% weight loss) of the cured copolymers ranged from 629°C to 686°C, and the decomposition residues of cured copolymers at 1000°C ranged from 88.1% to 90.9% under nitrogen. Thermal stability of the copolymers increased with the introduction of methylsilylene units into polymer chains. The cured copolymers were sintered at 1450°C, and the results of X-ray diffraction analysis showed that β-SiC was formed in the sintered products.

Abstract:Ethoxysilanes are a family of precursors widely used in flame synthesis of silica nanoparticles. The existence of a silicon atom greatly amplifies the complexity of ethoxysilane combustion reactions, especially the detection of silicon-containing products and exploration of the specific reaction pathways, which hinders the unambiguous understanding of the combustion chemistry of ethoxysilanes. As the first part of a serial work on the combustion of dimethyldiethoxysilane (DMDEOS), a representative ethoxysilane precursor, reports a theoretical, experimental, and kinetic modeling investigation on its pyrolysis. The potential energy surface and rate constants show that the four-membered ethylene elimination dominates the decomposition of DMDEOS. Pyrolysis products in the micro-flow reactor pyrolysis of DMDEOS are detected using synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV-PIMS), including six silicon-containing products and an abundant of hydrocarbon molecules and radicals. Novel insight is provided into the unclear ethanol formation mechanism in previous pyrolysis investigations of ethoxysilanes. Previously proposed one-step mechanisms are found to be less efficient based on theoretical exploration and experimental evidence. A new multi-step mechanism initiated from the ethanol elimination of HOSi(CH3)2OC2H5 is concluded to be energy-favorable, which is supported by the identification of relevant products in the micro-flow reactor pyrolysis experiment. Based on the product information detected by SVUV-PIMS and the exploration of ethanol formation mechanism, a kinetic model of DMDEOS pyrolysis is constructed and validated against the new data that flow reactor pyrolysis of DMDEOS at 1.05 atm and 849-1113 K using gas chromatography. The model can effectively reproduce the formation of observed products and successfully address the substantial underprediction of ethanol caused by previously proposed one-step mechanisms. Modeling analyses, including rate of production analysis and sensitivity analysis, are performed to provide insight into the key pathways of DMDEOS decomposition and product formation.

Abstract:Several allyl-containing siloxanes were synthesized from chloroalkyl siloxanes and o-allyl phenol by Williamson reaction.With the concentrated sulfuric acid as the catalyst,1,3-bis(chloromethyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-disiloxane(I) reacted with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane to obtain α,ω-bis(chloromethyl) dimethyl siloxane oligomer(II).1,3-bis(o-allyl phenoxymethyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethy-disiloxane or α,ω-bis(o-allyl phenoxymethyl)-capped dimethyl siloxane oligomer was synthesized from I or II,and excess amount of o-allyl phenol by refluxing for 8 hours in ethanol.At room temperature,γ-chloropropyl methyl dimethoxysilane(III) was hydrolyzed to obtain γ-chloropropyl methyl siloxane oligomer(IV);meanwhile,III was cohydrolyzed with chloromethyl dimethyl chlorosilane to obtain γ-chloropropyl methyl siloxane oligomer capped with bis-chloromethyl group(V).In the presence of potassium hydroxide and with tetrabutylammonium bromide as the catalyst,γ-(o-allyl phenoxy)-propyl methyl siloxane oligomer or α,ω-bis(o-allyl phenoxymethyl)-capped γ-(o-allyl phenoxy)-propyl methyl siloxane oligomer was prepared respectively from IV or V,and o-allyl phenol by refluxing for 16 hours in N,N-dimethyl formamide.1H NMR and IR were applied to characterize the structure of the products.
Dimethylsilanone generation from pyrolysis of polysiloxanes filled with nanosized silica and ceria/silica

Abstract:Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a widely used organosilicon polymer often employed in formulations with fine oxide particles for various high temperature applications. Although PDMS is considered to be thermally stable and chemically inert, it is not always clear how the oxide filler influences its thermoresistance, decomposition chemistry and what reactive products are formed in the underlying thermal reactions. In this work we use temperature programmed desorption mass spectrometry (TPD MS) to study the pyrolysis of PDMS and its composites with nanosized silica and ceria/silica. Our results suggest that the elusive organosilicon compound - dimethylsilanone is generated from PDMS over a broad temperature range (in some cases starting at 70$°$C). The presence of nano-oxides catalyzed this process. Ions characteristic of the fragmentation of dimethylsilanone under electron ionization were assigned with the aid of DFT structure calculations. Possible reaction mechanisms for generating dimethylsilanone were discussed in the context of the calculated kinetic parameters. Observed accompanying products of PDMS pyrolysis, such as tetramethylcyclodisiloxane and hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane, indicate that multiple channels are involved in the dimethylsilanone release.

Abstract:Phenyl-containing polysiloxanes have better thermal stability, low-temperature flexibility, and roomtemperature damping performance than polydimethylsiloxanes. Poly [dimethylsiloxane-co-methyl (phenyl) siloxane] and poly (dimethylsiloxane-co-diphenylsiloxane) were synthesized through a bulk copolymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and methylphenylcyclosiloxane mixture or octaphenylcyclotetrasiloxane, and the structure and properties of the copolysiloxanes were comparatively studied. The phenyl content in poly [dimethylsiloxane-co-methyl (phenyl)siloxane] can be as high as 50 mol%. With the increment of the phenyl content, the thermal stability of the copolysiloxanes is dramatically improved as evaluated by thermal gravimetric analysis. At a given phenyl content, poly [dimethylsiloxane-co-methyl (phenyl)siloxane] has higher thermal stability than poly (dimethylsiloxane-co-diphenylsiloxane). The former is more difficult to crystalline at low temperatures and has lower room temperature viscosity than the latter as confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry and rotational rheometer. The copolysiloxanes is mixed with hydrogen-containing polysiloxane and silica, and vulcanized at elevated temperature to get copolysiloxane composites with good damping properties, oil resistance, and low-temperature resistance. This study not only enriches the fundamental academic research on functional polysiloxanes, but also provides useful technical references for practical applications of phenyl silicone rubber.
