Abstract:Regioselective acetylation of per-O-TMS carbohydrates was achieved preferentially at the 6 position or 1,6-position under mild conditions involving the eco-friendly solvent acetonitrile, at room temperature, in ambient atmosphere and in a shorter time. Good or moderate yields were obtained via 4-dimethylaminopyridine, without auxiliary equipment. A single α-O-Acetyl acetylation anomer was exclusively defined for the involved substrates. A 6-O-monoacetate derivative was applied and used as a stable glycosyl donor in the disaccharides construction. The methodology was successful for a range of substrates, which include the following: d-lactose, d-trehalose, d-galactose, methyl α-d-galactose, d-glucose, d-mannose, d-xylose, and l-fucose.

Abstract:The microwave-assistance was proved as an efficient approach to distinctly shorten the reaction time in glycochemisty.The microwave-assisted synthesis of alkyl glucopyranosides at the peracetylated glucose and straight chain alcohols was studied in the presence of montmorillonite K-10 and(4×10~(-10) m) molecular sieves.The configuration of glucopyranoside was successfully controlled. The possible mechanism is also proposed.

Abstract:Catalytic hydration of acrolein to 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde (3-HPA) is a key step for the chemical pro-duction of 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) from renewable glycerol. However, a main issue of low reaction rate and long reaction time exists in the conventional hydration process. Here, we developed a microwave-assisted system for the efficient conversion of acrolein to 3-HPA. Simultaneous cooling method was adopted to maintain continuous microwave irradiation and meanwhile stable temperature during the reaction. The effects of catalyst type, temperature, catalyst loading and microwave power on acrolein conversion and 3-HPA selectivity were examined. Kinetic study showed that microwave irradi-ation could help for the reduction in activation energy, which led to acceleration in reaction rate during the acrolein hydration process. In addition, the density functional theory (DFT) calculations on the adsorption and reaction behavior of reactants molecules on the catalyst are consistent with the experi-mental results, which confirm the intensification effect of the microwave field.(c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:Abstract A variety of 2,3‐unsaturated‐O‐glycosides have been prepared by the Ferrier rearrangement of acetyl protected glycals under microwave irradiation using silica gel as an acid catalyst. Environmental friendliness, high yields, and short reaction times are the key features of this method. Furthermore, the method was applicable not only to the Ferrier reaction of 3,4,6‐tri‐O‐acetyl glucal and 3,4,6‐tri‐O‐acetyl galactal but also to the Ferrier reaction of 3,4‐di‐O‐acetyl arabinal.

Abstract:Uniform temperature distribution within solid catalyst particles is important to achieving low coke formation in a high-temperature reaction. However, the issue of uneven temperature distribution exists in most fixed-bed catalytic reaction systems. Here, we developed a microwave-assisted system and used it in catalytic dehydration of glycerol for sustainable production of acrolein. A coated microwave absorbing catalyst WO3/ZrO2@SiC was prepared and employed in the catalytic reactions. The effects of reaction temperature, ZrO2/SiC ratio, and weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) on glycerol conversion and arcolein selectivity were examined. Experimental results showed that the microwave heating proved to be more effective than the conventional electric heating for glycerol dehydration to acrolein at lower temperature. The acrolein selectivity reached over 70% with complete glycerol conversion at 250 degrees C by microwave heating. The catalyst acidity was greatly influenced by ZrO2/SiC ratio, which in turn determined the acrolein selectivity. More importantly, much better catalyst stability was obtained in the microwave-heating process than the electric-heating process. In addition, the microwave-heating system was effective for the in-situ regeneration of deactivated catalyst.

Abstract:A number of cyclic mono- and di-ketones underwent regioselective olefination with (carbethoxyethylidene)triphenylphospharane under controlled microwave heating. The Wittig reaction of 4-substituted cyclohexanones or 1,2- and 1,4-cyclohexanediones with the ylide at 190°C for 20min in MeCN afforded the exocyclic olefins in >94:6 isomer ratios. On the other hand, the same reactions carried out at 230°C for 20min in the presence of 20mol% DBU furnished the endocyclic olefins in >83:17 isomer ratios. The base-mediated isomerization of the exocyclic olefins into the endocyclic isomers was primarily driven by thermodynamic stability of the products and the effect of ring structures on deconjugation was examined.

Abstract:A novel approach to synthesize glucose-based 3-acetyl-5-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazoles with the assistance of microwave irradiation was developed. The effects of different catalysts on the heterocyclization process were investigated, and the reaction conditions were optimized, with NaOAc emerging as the catalyst of choice. Under the optimized conditions, a series of novel 3-acetyl-5-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives 4 and 5 were successfully synthesized from hydrazones 2 and 3. The absolute configurations of hydrazones 2, 3 and oxadiazoles 4, 5 were confirmed by NMR spectroscopic data. The ratio of the isomers 4 and 5 was ∼1:1.

Abstract:A stereoselectively controlled Wittig reaction of sugar aldehydes with Ph3P=CHCOOEt under microwave radiation was investigated. The reaction was curried out effectively and stereoselectively depending upon the solvents used, providing a convenient access to the glycosyl alpha,beta-unsaturated esters. The structures and configurations of the products were determined according to the NMR spectra and the coupling constants of the olifenic protons (CH=CH).

Abstract:Microwave (MW) irradiation was used for the grafting of azido-labeled oligo(ethylene oxide) (OEG) on alkynyl-terminated nonoxidized silicon substrates via copper-catalyzed "click" reaction. The "clickable" monolayers were prepared by photografting of an α,ω-alkynene, where the alkynyl terminus was protected by a trimethylgermanyl (TMG) group, onto hydrogen-terminated Si(111) surfaces. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was primarily employed to characterize the monolayers, and the data obtained were utilized to calculate the surface density of the TMG-alkynyl-functionalized substrate. MW-assisted one-pot deprotection/click reaction was optimized on the surfaces using azido-tagged OEG derivatives. Using MW instead of conventional heating led to a substantial improvement in the rate of the reaction while suppressing the oxidation of the silicon interface and OEG degradation. The antifouling property of the resulting substrates was evaluated using fibrinogen as a model protein. Results show that the OEG-modification reduced the protein adsorption by >90%.

Abstract:This study aimed to optimize the per‐O‐acetylation, deacetylation, and benzylidene protection of carbohydrates and investigate the scope of saccharides via alum‐catalysis. Initially, optimization was based on the previously reported PTA‐catalyzed acetylation of glucose, but alum‐catalysis required heating conditions. The study expanded to investigate the per‐O‐acetylation of different saccharides, including galactose and mannose, which produced stereoisomeric mixtures. The study proposed a plausible reaction mechanism for the isomerization observed in galactose and xylose after acetylation. The mechanism involved chelation of the active alum‐catalyst with the O‐6 position and β‐type O‐1 position of galactopyranose to form a transition state complex via ring opening. This study investigated the generality of the de‐O‐acetylation method on a variety of carbohydrates using per‐O‐acetyl saccharide substrates bearing different functional groups. The direct protection of benzylidene in addition to acetylation/de‐O‐acetylation with a focus on optimizing reaction conditions for the synthesis of carbohydrate derivatives. Overall, the study offers insights into optimizing de‐acetylation, per‐O‐acetylation, and benzylidene protection investigating the scope of saccharides via alum‐catalysis.

Abstract:A practical method for the racemization of L-Alanine has been developed by microwave irradiation.It is economical,convenient and environmentally acceptable way to racemize L-Alanine.By single factor cyclical method,the factors influencing the racemization were investigated.Finally,by optimization of response surface methodology,the whole process of racemization can be completed within 1 h in a medium of 1.2mol/L NaOH under reflux conditions for in the presence of 0.14 molar equivalent of Salicylaldehyde by using 560W microwave irradiation.It is also showed that the reaction rates is speed up with the increase of the power of microwave.The mechanism of the racemization was discussed.

Abstract:In order to develop an efficient, practical and stereoselective method for synthesizing glyeosyl acrylate derivatives, the microwave assisted Wittig reaction of sugar ketone (1) and lactones (4) with ylide 2 (Ph3P = CHCOOEt) was investigated in a sealed microwave reactor in various temperatures and solvents. The reaction was carried out effectively and stereoselectively in xylene at 180 degrees C with a yield up to 80% within 10 min.

Abstract:A convenient methodology has been developed for the regioselective removal of primary trimethylsilyl group (TMS) of various per-O-TMS-protected carbohydrates by inexpensive ammonium acetate. After acetylation and trichloroacetimidation of 6-hydroxyl sugar 1b, other TMS groups of 1d and 1c were inert to ammonium acetate in the same conditions, and this approach was also successfully applied in TMS-protected sphingosine.

Abstract:A novel catalytic system, ZnCl2 supported on alumina, was found to be an efficient and readily available medium for the solvent-free Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions under microwave irradiation. Good yields and high catalytic efficiencies were observed within short reaction times. Comparing with silica gel, alumina was more efficient under the same conditions.

Abstract:Among biomass-derived platform molecules one of the most prominent structures is levoglucosenone (LGO) from which it is possible to derive a wide array of solvents, chemicals, and polymeric materials. In this work we investigated the Michael addition of dimethyl malonate on levoglucosenone by testing several alternative catalysts ranging from Lewis acids to structured silicas and clays. The work had the double aim to i) optimize the reaction using the widely reported KF/Alumina catalyst, giving a frame of reference for its relative activity in this Michael addition and ii) conduct a catalyst screen while investigating various reaction mechanisms. Among the tested catalysts, Ca(OH)2 was the best candidate to substitute KF/Alumina, reaching yields >90 % after only 5 min of microwave irradiation.
