Abstract:Let A be a connected graded algebra and let E denote its Ext-algebra. There is a natural A-infinity algebra structure on E, and we prove that this structure is mainly determined by the relations of A. In particular, the coefficients of the A-infinity products m_n restricted to the tensor powers of Ext^1 give the coefficients of the relations of A. We also relate the m_n's to Massey products.

Abstract: Let $\mathfrak A$ be a type 1 subdiagonal algebra in a $\sigma$-finite von Neumann algebra $\mathcal M$ with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation $\Phi$. We consider a Riesz type factorization theorem in noncommutative $H^p$ spaces associated with $\mathfrak A$. It is shown that if $1\leq r,p,q<\infty$ such that $\frac1r=\frac1p+\frac1q$, then for any $h\in H^r$, there exist $h_p\in H^p$ and $h_q\in H^q$ such that $h=h_ph_q$. Beurling type invariant subspace theorem for noncommutative $L^p(1< p<\infty)$ space is obtained. Furthermore, we show that a $\sigma$-weakly closed subalgebra containing $\mathfrak A$ of $\mathcal M$ is also a type 1 subdiagonal algebra. As an application, We prove that the relative invariant subspace lattice $Lat_{\mathcal M}\mathfrak A$ of $\mathfrak A$ in $\mathcal M$ is commutative.

Abstract:Let ${\mathcal M}$ be a σ-finite von Neumann algebra and ${\mathfrak A}$ a maximal subdiagonal algebra of ${\mathcal M}$ with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation ${\Phi}$ . Based on Haagerup’s noncommutative L p space ${L^p(\mathcal M)}$ associated with ${\mathcal M}$ , we give a noncommutative version of H p space relative to ${\mathfrak A}$ . If h 0 is the image of a faithful normal state ${\varphi}$ in ${L^1(\mathcal M)}$ such that ${\varphi\circ \Phi=\varphi}$ , then it is shown that the closure of ${\{\mathfrak Ah_0^{\frac1p}\}}$ in ${L^p(\mathcal M)}$ for 1 ≤ p < ∞ is independent of the choice of the state preserving ${\Phi}$ . Moreover, several characterizations for a subalgebra of the von Neumann algebra ${\mathcal M}$ to be a maximal subdiagonal algebra are given.

Abstract:We introduce invertible subalgebras of local operator algebras on lattices. An invertible subalgebra is defined to be one such that every local operator can be locally expressed by elements of the inveritible subalgebra and those of the commutant. On a two-dimensional lattice, an invertible subalgebra hosts a chiral anyon theory by a commuting Hamiltonian, which is believed not to be possible on any full local operator algebra. We prove that the stable equivalence classes of $\mathsf d$-dimensional invertible subalgebras form an abelian group under tensor product, isomorphic to the group of all $\mathsf d + 1$ dimensional QCA modulo blending equivalence and shifts. In an appendix, we consider a metric on the group of all QCA on infinite lattices and prove that the metric completion contains the time evolution by local Hamiltonians, which is only approximately locality-preserving. Our metric topology is strictly finer than the strong topology.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal~M$ be a $\sigma$-finite von Neumann algebra and $\mathfrak~A$ a type 1 subdiagonal algebra with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation $\Phi$. We consider super-algebras and noncommutative analytic Toeplitz algebras on the noncommutative $H^p$ spaces associated with $\mathfrak~A$. We show that a $\sigma$-weakly closed subalgebra containing $\mathfrak~A$ in $\mathcal~M$ is also a type 1 subdiagonal algebra. Moreover, the right (respectively left) noncommutative analytic Toeplitz algebra on the noncommutative $H^p$ $(1<p<\infty)$ space is a hereditary reflexive algebra.

Suppose that φ is a faithful normal state on M with φ ∘ Φ = φ and { σ t φ : t ∈ R } is the modular automorphism group of M associated with φ, we give a Beurling type representation for those right invariant subspaces of A in L p ( M ) which are also invariant under { σ t φ : t ∈ R } . Furthermore, we give an algebraic characterization for a subdiagonal algebra to be type 1 and also give a type decomposition for a central projection in M associated with the center of D .

Abstract:Let ℳ be a σ -finite von Neumann algebra and let 𝔄⊆ℳ be a maximal subdiagonal algebra with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation Φ. Based on the Haagerup’s noncommutative L p space L^p ( ℳ) associated with ℳ , we consider Toeplitz operators and the Hilbert transform associated with 𝔄 . We prove that the commutant of left analytic Toeplitz algebra on noncommutative Hardy space H^2 ( ℳ) is just the right analytic Toeplitz algebra. Furthermore, the Hilbert transform on noncommutative L^p ( ℳ) is shown to be bounded for 1 < p < ∞. As an application, we consider a noncommutative analog of the space BMO and identify the dual space of noncommutative H^1 ( ℳ) as a concrete space of operators.

Abstract:Let A be a maximal subdiagonal algebra in a σ-finite von Neumann algebra M. If every right invariant subspace of A in the noncommutative Hardy space H2 is of Beurling type, then we say A is of type 1. We determine generators of these algebras and consider a Riesz type factorization theorem for the noncommutative H1 space. We show that the right analytic Toeplitz algebra on the noncommutative Hardy space Hp associated with a type 1 subdiagonal algebra with multiplicity 1 is hereditary reflexive.

Abstract:Analogous to subfactor theory, employing Watatani's notions of index and $C^*$-basic construction of certain inclusions of $C^*$-algebras, (a) we develop a Fourier theory (consisting of Fourier transforms, rotation maps and shift operators) on the relative commutants of any inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras with finite Watatani index, and (b) we introduce the notions of interior and exterior angles between intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of any inclusion of unital $C^*$-algebras admitting a finite index conditional expectation. Then, on the lines of [2], we apply these concepts to obtain a bound for the cardinality of the lattice of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of any irreducible inclusion as in (a), and improve Longo's bound for the cardinality of intermediate subfactors of an inclusion of type $III$ factors with finite index. Moreover, we also show that for a fairly large class of inclusions of finite von Neumann algebras, the lattice of intermediate von Neumann subalgebras is always finite.

Abstract:In 1967, Arveson invented a noncommutative generalization of classical H-infinity, known as finite maximal subdiagonal subalgebras, for a finite von Neumann algebra M with a faithful normal tracial state tau. In 2008, Blecher and Labuschagne proved a version of Beurling theorem on H-infinity-right invariant subspaces in a noncommutative L-p (M, tau) space for 1 <= p <= infinity. In the present paper, we define and study a class of norms N-c(M, tau) on M, called normalized, unitarily invariant, parallel to . parallel to (1)-dominating, continuous norms, which properly contains the class {parallel to . parallel to(p) : 1 <= p < infinity} and the class of rearrangement invariant quasi Banach function norms studied by Bekjan. For alpha is an element of N-c( M, tau), we define a noncommutative L-alpha( M, tau) space and a noncommutative H a space. Then we obtain a version of the Blecher-Labuschagne-Beurling invariant subspace theorem on H-infinity-right invariant subspaces in L-alpha(M, tau) spaces and H a spaces. Key ingredients in the proof of our main result include a characterization theorem of H a and a density theorem for L-alpha(M, tau).

Abstract:A subalgebra A \mathfrak A in a σ \sigma -finite von Neumann algebra M \mathcal M has the left (resp. right) partial factorization property if for any invertible operator S ∈ M S\in \mathcal M , there exists an isometry (resp. a co-isometry) U ∈ M U\in \mathcal M such that U ∗ S , S − 1 U ∈ A U^*S, S^{-1}U\in \mathfrak A . We show that the relative invariant subspace lattice L a t M A {Lat}_{\mathcal M}\mathfrak A consisting of those projections in M \mathcal M whose ranges are invariant under A \mathfrak A is commutative. Moreover if M \mathcal M has a separable predual, then L a t M A {Lat}_{\mathcal M}\mathfrak A is generated by a nest together with the lattice of projections in the center of M \mathcal M . In particular, if A \mathfrak A is a von Neumann subalgebra, then A = M \mathfrak A=\mathcal M .

Abstract:Let L be a J-subspace lattice on a complex Banach space X and Alg L the associated J-subspace lattice algebra. We say that an operator Z is an element of Alg L is a full-derivable point of Alg L if every linear map delta from Alg L into itself derivable at Z (i.e., delta(A)B + A delta(B) = delta(Z) for any A, B is an element of Alg L with AB = Z) is a derivation and is a full-generalized-derivable point of Alg L if every linear map delta from Alg L into itself generalized derivable at Z (i.e., delta(A)B + A delta(B) - A delta(I)B = delta(Z) for any A, B is an element of Alg L with AB = Z) is a generalized derivation. In this paper, we prove that if Z is an element of Alg L is an injective operator or an operator with dense range, then Z is a full-derivable point as well as a full-generalized-derivable point of Alg L.

Abstract:Given any irreducible inclusion $\mB \subset \mA$ of unital $C^*$-algebras with a finite-index conditional expectation $E: \mA \to \mB$, we show that the set of $E$-compatible intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras is finite, thereby generalizing a finiteness result of Ino and Watatani (from \cite{IW}). A finiteness result for a certain collection of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of a non-irreducible inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras is also obtained, which provides a $C^*$-version of a finiteness result of Khoshkam and Mashood (from \cite{KM}).

Abstract:Let A be a maximal subdiagonal algebra of semifinite von Neumann algebra M. For 0 < p <= infinity, we define the noncommutative Hardy-Lorentz spaces H-P,H-omega (A), and give some properties of these spaces. We obtain that the Herglotz maps are bounded linear maps from Lambda(p)(omega)(M) into Lambda(p)(omega)(M), and with this result we characterize the dual spaces of H-P,H-omega (A) for 1 < p < infinity. We also present the Hartman-Wintner spectral inclusion theorem of Toeplitz operators and Pisier's interpolation theorem for this case.

Abstract:Let 𝔄 be a maximal subdiagonal algebra with diagonal 𝔇 in a σ -finite von Neumann algebra ℳ with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation Φ . We firstly give a type decomposition of an invariant subspace 𝔐 of 𝔄 in the acting Hilbert space. We then revisit certain useful properties of type 1 subdiagonal algebras. It is shown that a two-sided invariant subspace 𝔐 in the noncommutative H^2 space has the form 𝔐=⊕ _n≥ 1^colW_nH^2 for a family of partial isometries {W_n:n≥ 1} satisfying W_n^*W_m=0 when n≠m , W_n^*W_n∈𝔇 and ∑ _n≥ 1 W_nW_n^*=I if 𝔇 is a factor. Furthermore, we give a noncommutative version of the Sarason’s generalized interpolation theorem for such a two-sided invariant subspace of a type 1 subdiagonal algebra.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a $\sigma$-finite von Neumann algebra, equipped with a normal faithful state $\varphi$, and let $\mathcal{A}$ be a maximal subdiagonal subalgebra of $\mathcal{M}$. We have proved that for $0< p<1$, $H^p(\mathcal{A})$ is independent of $\varphi$. Furthermore, in the case that $\mathcal{A}$ is a type 1 subdiagonal subalgebra, we have extended the most recent results about the Riesz type factorization to the case $0<p<1$ and have proved an interpolation theorem for $H^p(\mathcal{A})$ in the case where $0 < p_0, p_1 \le \infty$.
