Some of them are based on the third component u_3 of velocity under Prodi-Serrin index condition, another type is in terms of ω_3 and ∂_3u_3 with Prodi-Serrin index condition. And a very recent work of the authors, based on only one of the nine entries of the gradient tensor, is renovated.

Abstract:A study of regularity estimate for weak solution to generalized stationary Stokes-type systems involving $p$-Laplacian is offered. The governing systems of equations are based on steady incompressible flow of a Newtonian fluids. This paper also provides a relatively complete picture of our main results in two regards: problems with nonlinearity is regular with respect to the gradient variable; and asymtotically regular problems, whose nonlinearity satisfies a particular structure near infinity. For such Stokes-type systems, we derive regularity estimates for both velocity gradient and its associated pressure in two special classes of function spaces: the generalized Lorentz and $\psi$-generalized Morrey spaces.

Abstract:In this work, a finite element (FE) method is discussed for the 3D steady Navier-Stokes equations by using the finite element pair Xh×Mh. The method consists of transmitting the finite element solution (uh,ph) of the 3D steady Navier-Stokes equations into the finite element solution pairs (uhn,phn) based on the finite element space pair Xh×Mh of the 3D steady linearized Navier-Stokes equations by using the Stokes, Newton and Oseen iterative methods, where the finite element space pair Xh×Mh satisfies the discrete inf-sup condition in a 3D domain Ω. Here, we present the weak formulations of the FE method for solving the 3D steady Stokes, Newton and Oseen iterative equations, provide the existence and uniqueness of the FE solution (uhn,phn) of the 3D steady Stokes, Newton and Oseen iterative equations, and deduce the convergence with respect to (σ,h) of the FE solution (uhn,phn) to the exact solution (u,p) of the 3D steady Navier-Stokes equations in the H1-L2 norm. Finally, we also give the convergence order with respect to (σ,h) of the FE velocity uhn to the exact velocity u of the 3D steady Navier-Stokes equations in the L2 norm.
An enriched hybrid high-order method for the Stokes problem with application to flow around submerged cylinders

Abstract:An enriched hybrid high-order method is designed for the Stokes equations of fluid flow and is fully applicable to generic curved meshes. Minimal regularity requirements of the enrichment spaces are given, and an abstract error analysis of the scheme is provided. The method achieves consistency in the enrichment space and is proven to converge optimally in energy error. The scheme is applied to 2D flow around circular cylinders, for which the local behaviour of the velocity and pressure fields are known. By enriching the local spaces with these solutions, superior numerical results near the submerged cylinders are achieved.

Abstract:Our aim is to analyse special type of boundary conditions, created to simulate flows like in cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Firstly, we will describe model of viscous, incompressible fluid in a domain consisting many inlets and outlets with open dissipative boundary conditions. The conditions are augmented by the inertia terms. We are posing additional constrains on a fluid motion by a volumetric flow rates or inlet/outlet pressure. Afterwards, we will define weak formulation of the problem and its motivation. Then, we will prove mathematical correctness of proposed conditions by properly modified Galerkin method. Also, we will prove existence of a solution and its uniqueness.

Abstract:A new iteration method is represented to study the interior $L_{p}$ regularity for Stokes systems both in divergence form and in non-divergence form. By the iteration, we improve the integrability of derivatives of solutions for Stokes systems step by step; after infinitely many steps, $L_{p}$ regularity is achieved; and in each step, the maximal function method is used where solutions and their derivatives are involved simultaneously in each scale. The Hölder continuity of the coefficients in spatial variables is assumed to compensate the different scalings between the solutions and their derivatives.

Abstract:The friction-type interface condition (FIC) is introduced to describe the phenomenon of the slip and leak of fluid flow on the interface happens only when the difference of stress force is above a threshold. The FIC involves the subdifferential and can be regarded as an intermediate form of the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary conditions. This work is devoted to the well-posedness of the non-stationary (Navier-)Stokes equations with FIC in 2D and 3D, the weak forms of which are parabolic variational inequalities of the second type. We establish the existence theorems using the regularization technique and the Galerkin method. For the Stokes case, we prove the global unique existence and investigate the $H^2$ regularity. In the case of 2D Navier-Stokes equation, we show the global unique existence of the weak and strong solutions, respectively. For the Navier-Stokes case in 3D, we demonstrate the global existence of the weak solution and the local unique existence of the strong solution.

Abstract:We analyze the forced incompressible stationary Navier-Stokes flow in R + n , n > 2 . Existence of a unique solution satisfying a global integrability property measured in a scale of tent spaces is established for small data in homogeneous Sobolev space with s = − 1 2 degree of smoothness. The velocity field is shown to be locally Hölder continuous while the pressure belongs to L l o c p for any p ∈ ( 1 , ∞ ) . Our approach is based on the analysis of the inhomogeneous Stokes system for which we derive a new solvability result involving Dirichlet data in Triebel-Lizorkin classes with negative amount of smoothness and is of independent interest.

Optimal Regularity for the Stokes Equations on a 2D Wedge Domain Subject to Navier Boundary Conditions

Abstract:We consider the Stokes equations subject to Navier boundary conditions on a two-dimensional wedge domain with opening angle $\theta_0 \in (0,\,\pi)$. We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions with optimal regularity in an $L^p$-setting. The results are based on optimal regularity results for the Stokes equations subject to perfect slip boundary conditions on a two-dimensional wedge domain that have been obtained by the authors in [15]. Based on a detailed study of the corresponding trace operator on anisotropic Sobolev-Slobodeckij type function spaces on a two-dimensional wedge domain we are able to generalize the results proved in [15] to the case of inhomogeneous boundary conditions. Existence and uniqueness of solutions to the Stokes equations subject to (inhomogeneous) Navier boundary conditions are then obtained using a perturbation argument.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose two low order nonconforming finite element methods (FEMs) for the three-dimensional Stokes flow that generalize the non-conforming FEM of Kouhia and Stenberg (1995, Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Engrg.). The finite element spaces proposed in this paper consist of two globally continuous components (one piecewise affine and one enriched component) and one component that is continuous at the midpoints of interior faces. We prove that the discrete Korn inequality and a discrete inf-sup condition hold uniformly in the meshsize and also for a non-empty Neumann boundary. Based on these two results, we show the well-posedness of the discrete problem. Two counterexamples prove that there is no direct generalization of the Kouhia-Stenberg FEM to three space dimensions: The finite element space with one non-conforming and two conforming piecewise affine components does not satisfy a discrete inf-sup condition with piecewise constant pressure approximations, while finite element functions with two non-conforming and one conforming component do not satisfy a discrete Korn inequality.

Abstract:We consider the incompressible and stationary Stokes equations on an infinite two-dimensional wedge with non-scaling invariant Navier-slip boundary conditions. We prove well-posedness and higher regularity of the Stokes problem in a certain class of weighted Sobolev spaces. The novelty of this work is the occurrence of two different scalings in the boundary condition, which is not treated so far for the Stokes system in unbounded wedge-type domains. These difficulties are overcome by first constructing a variational solution in a second order weighted Sobolev space and subsequently proving higher regularity up to the tip of the wedge by employing an iterative scheme. We believe that this method can be used for other problems with variational structure and multiple scales.

Abstract:Consider an axis-symmetric suitable weak solution of 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equation with nontrivial swirl. If the solution satisfies a slightly supercritical assumption, we will prove that v is regular. This extends the results of Chen-Strain-Tsai-Yau, Koch-Nadirashvili-Seregin-Sverak and Lei-Zhang where regularities under critical assumptions were proven.

Topological Methods in Nonlinear Analysis

Abstract:Stationary or self similar solutions with suitable homogeneity often play a crucial role in the regularity theory of nonlinear problems, which are physically or geometrically interesting. This has been manifested in the regularity theory of harmonic maps and minimal surfaces. The local partial regularity theorem in [CKN] implies that there are no self-similar solutions with small local energy (also see [TX] for generalizations). Making use of some arguments in [NRS], Tsai has ruled out the existence of any self-similar solutions with a finite local energy. Yet it is unclear whether or not solutions of the incompressible Navier– Stokes equation in three space dimensions would develop singularities in finite time. Therefore, it may be still interesting to construct special solutions of the 3-dimensional Navier–Stokes equation. In this note, we construct a one-parameter family of explicit smooth solutions of the 3-dimensional impressible Navier–Stokes equation on R\p, where p is any given point. These solutions are axisymmetric, homogeneous of degree −1. They are steady solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations and also solve the self-similar

Abstract:For the non-stationary Stokes system, it is well-known that one can improve spatial regularity in the interior, but not near the boundary if it is coupled with the no-slip boundary condition. In this note we show that, to the contrary, spatial regularity can be improved near a flat boundary if it is coupled with the Navier boundary condition, with either infinite or finite slip length. The case with finite slip length is more difficult than the case with infinite slip length.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic stability of the three-dimensional Couette flow in a stratified fluid governed by the Stokes-transport equation. We observe that a similar lift-up effect to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation near Couette flow destabilizes the system. We find that the inviscid damping type decay due to the Couette flow together with the damping structure caused by the decreasing background density stabilizes the system. More precisely, we prove that if the initial density is close to a linearly decreasing function in the Gevrey-$\frac{1}{s}$ class with $\frac{1}{2}< s\leq 1$, namely, $\|\varrho_{\mathrm{in}}(X,Y,Z)-(-Y)\|_{\mathcal{G}^{s}}\leq \epsilon$, then the perturbed density remains close to $-Y$. Moreover, the associated velocity field converges to Couette flow $(Y, 0, 0)^{\top}$ with a convergence rate of $\frac{1}{\langle t\rangle^3}$.
