Abstract:Based on the characterization of self-similarity, a new model of the fractal signals with discrete wavelet synthetic formula is obtained, and a formula to calculate the time-average spectrum of the signals constructed by the new model is given. It is shown that the new model is more precise than the previous ones.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach of implementing the frequency spectral analysis with multiresolution technique. Both FFT and wavelet analysis are used in order to generate the spectrum with a- logarithmic-style resolution distribution. The algorithm, computational efficiency and memory storage efficiency are discussed in detail.

Abstract:In terms of the disadvantage of traditional methods represented by Fourier analysis applied in analysis of nonlinear signals,a new approach based on fractal theory was provided to analysis random noises in nonlinear signals.Experiment results on real electrocardiograph(ECG) signals demonstrated remarkable gap between the periodical nonlinear time series and random noises;moreover,fractal dimensions varied with different levels of impact from random noise on original time series.These results imply that fractal dimension can effectively describe how the data is affected by random noise and thus usher the prospect in engineering application.

Abstract:A novel method of identifying the fractal scaleless range is proposed,which is fundamental in fractal signal processing.The method is based on the multi-scales differential property of the wavelet transform and the wavelet transform modulus maxima(WTMM) technique;By multi-scale identifying the exact position of the systematic bending,the scaleless range can be quickly,correctly and adaptively determined.The simulation test shows that the method is efficient.
Research on Similarity of Stochastic Non-Stationary Time Series Based on Wavelet-Fractal

Abstract:Traditional dimension reduction methods about similarity query introduce the smoothness to data series in some degree, but lead to the disappearance of the important features of time series about non-linearity and fractal.The matching method based on wavelet transformation measures the similarity by using the distance standard at some resolution level. But in the case of an unknown fractal dimension of non-stationary time series, the local error of similarity matching of series increases. The process of querying the similarity of curve figures will be affected to a certain degree. Stochastic non-stationary time series show the non-linear and fractal characters in the process of time-space kinetics evolution. The concept of series fractal time-varying dimension is presented. The original Fractal Brownian Motion model is reconstructed to be a stochastic process with local self-similarity. The Daubechies wavelet is used to deal with the local self-similarity process. An evaluation formula of the time-varying Hurst index is established. The algorithm of time-varying index is presented, and a new determinant standard of series similarity is also introduced. Similarity of the basic curve figures is queried and measured at some resolution ratio level,in the meantime, the fractal dimension in local similarity is matched. The effectiveness of the method is validated by means of the simulation example in the end.

Abstract:Electronic states play a crucial role in many quantum systems of moir & eacute; superlattices, quasicrystals, and fractals. As recently reported for Sierpi & nacute;ski lattices [Yao et al., Phys. Rev. B 107, 115424 (2023)], the critical states are revealed by the energy-level-correlation spectra, which are caused by the interplay between aperiodicity and determined self-similarity characters. In the case of the Sierpi & nacute;ski carpet, our results further demonstrate that there is some degree of spatial overlap between these electronic states. These states could be strongly affected by the "seed lattice" of the generator and slightly modulated by the dilation pattern and the geometrical self-similarity level. These electronic states are made multifractal by scaling the qth-order inverse participation ratio or fractal dimension, which correlates with the subdiffusion behavior. In the gene pattern, an average state-based multifractal dimension of second order would increase as its Hausdorff dimension increases. Our findings could potentially contribute to understanding quantum transports and single-particle quantum dynamics in fractals.

Abstract:In this article, we study the energy spectrum of fractals which has block-hierarchical structure. We develop a method to study the spectral properties in terms of linearization of spectral decimation procedure and verify it numerically by calculation of level-spacing distributions. Our approach provides qualitative explanation for various spectral properties of self-similar graphs within the theory of dynamical systems, including the power-law level-spacing distribution, smooth density of states, and effective chaotic regime.

Abstract:Nowadays, fractional-order systems are attracting more and more attention. There are several ways available for analyzing fractional-order systems, among which wavelet transform is an efficient method for analyzing system dynamics in both time and frequency domains. We investigate the wavelet phase synchronization employing wavelet transform to explore the phase synchronization behaviors of fractional-order chaotic oscillators. We analyze in detail the synchronization behaviors with changes to the coupling strength, the central frequency Ω0, and the time scale of the wavelet.
Wavelet Multifractal Approaches for Singularity Analysis of Vibration Signals

Abstract:For rotating machinery, there may exist many kinds of malfunctions that will influence the normal operation, such as oil whirl, coupling misalignment, rub-impact etc, whose vibration signals often have different singularity properties. The multifractal spectrum, also called singularity spectrum, calculated by the wavelet transform modulus-maxima (WTMM) method is a comprehensive reflection of the distribution of the singularities of signals. In this paper, the WTMM method for multifractal spectrum is introduced, and the multifractal spectra are used to analyze the experimental data of rub-impact, oil whirl, coupling misalignment and imbalance faults. The results show that the vibration signals of the rub-impact have the strongest singularity; the signals of the coupling misalignment are the next and the signals of the imbalance have the weakest singularity. It means that some features can be extracted from the multifractal spectra for fault diagnosis.
Scale Dependencies and Self-Similar Models with Wavelet Scattering Spectra

Abstract:We introduce the wavelet scattering spectra which provide non-Gaussian models of time-series having stationary increments. A complex wavelet transform computes signal variations at each scale. Dependencies across scales are captured by the joint correlation across time and scales of wavelet coefficients and their modulus. This correlation matrix is nearly diagonalized by a second wavelet transform, which defines the scattering spectra. We show that this vector of moments characterizes a wide range of non-Gaussian properties of multi-scale processes. We prove that self-similar processes have scattering spectra which are scale invariant. This property can be tested statistically on a single realization and defines a class of wide-sense self-similar processes. We build maximum entropy models conditioned by scattering spectra coefficients, and generate new time-series with a microcanonical sampling algorithm. Applications are shown for highly non-Gaussian financial and turbulence time-series.

Abstract:In this paper, an algorithm is proposed for the identification of fractal signals with wavelet-based models from corrupted data. This algorithm is based on curve fitting and wavelet transformation. It is proved that whenever gamma is greater than 0, the algorithm provides an almost consistent estimation. Moreover, the estimated parameters are asymptotically Gaussian distributed. A mean-square asymptotic convergence rate of the estimated parameters has also been established, Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
A Cauchy-Laplace Multifractal Wavelet Model for Network Redundant Traffic

Abstract:In order to characterize local features of network redundant traffic on small-time scale more ac-curately, a new Cauchy-Laplace multifractal wavelet model was proposed. An algorithm for estimating pa-rameters of wavelets was also put forward. A joint distribution function was adopted to describe local fea-tures, i. e. , Cauchy and Laplace distributions were used to obtain the parameter multiply factors for heavy-tailed and spike features, respectively. A threshold for ratio of wavelets to scaling parameters, which decides how these two distributions affected redundant traffic modeling, was achieved by probabili-ty comparison. Experiments show that the proposed model can well characterize small-time scale multi-fractal features of network redundant traffic.

Abstract:We develop a timescale synthesis-based probabilistic approach for the modeling of locally stationary signals. Inspired by our previous work, the model involves zero-mean, complex Gaussian wavelet coefficients, whose distribution varies as a function of time by time dependent translations on the scale axis. In a maximum a posteriori approach, we propose an estimator for the model parameters, namely the time-varying scale translation and an underlying power spectrum. The proposed approach is illustrated on a denoising example. It is also shown that the model can handle locally stationary signals with fast frequency variations, and provide in this case very sharp timescale representations more concentrated than synchrosqueezed or reassigned wavelet transform.

Abstract:Different from the FFT-based methods, the objects of the multifractal spectrum are the signals' geometrical features. The wavelet local maximal modulus method is received more attentions because it can calculate the multifractal spectrum effectively and simply. The concept of multifractal spectrum is presented systematically and the wavelet local maximal modulus method is introduced. The way of applying the multifractal spectrum to fault diagnosis is discussed. The vibration signals of four kinds of typical faults: unbalance, oil whirl, coupling misalignment and rub-impact are then studied. The result shows that the geometrical features of vibration signals can be reflected through multifractal spectrum, which provides an effective way for fault diagnosis.

Abstract:The Fourier transform and spectral analysis are employed to estimate the fractal dimension and explore the fractal parameter relations of urban growth and form using mathematical experiments and empirical analyses. Based on the models of urban density, two kinds of fractal dimensions of urban form can be evaluated with the scaling relations between the wave number and the spectral density. One is the radial dimension of self-similar distribution indicating the macro-urban patterns, and the other, the profile dimension of self-affine tracks indicating the micro-urban evolution. If a city's growth follows the power law, the summation of the two dimension values may be a constant under certain condition. The estimated results of the radial dimension suggest a new fractal dimension, which can be termed “image dimension”. A dual-structure model named particle-ripple model (PRM) is proposed to explain the connections and differences between the macro and micro levels of urban form.

Abstract:Fractal dimension (D) is widely utilized in various fields to quantify the complexity of signals and other features. However, the fractal nature is limited to a certain scope of concerned scales, i.e., scaling region, even for a theoretically fractal profile generated through the Weierstrass-Mandelbrot (W-M) function. In this study, the scaling characteristics curves of profiles were calculated by using the roughness scaling extraction (RSE) algorithm, and an interception method was proposed to locate the two ends of the scaling region, which were named corner and drop phenomena, respectively. The results indicated that two factors, sampling length and flattening order, in the RSE algorithm could influence the scaling region length significantly. Based on the scaling region interception method and the above findings, the RSE algorithm was optimized to improve the accuracy of the D calculation, and the influence of sampling length was discussed by comparing the lower critical condition of the W-M function. To improve the ideality of fractal curves generated through the W-M function, the strategy of reducing the fundamental frequency was proposed to enlarge the scaling region. Moreover, the strategy of opposite operation was also proposed to improve the consistency of generated curves with actual signals, which could be conducive to practical simulations.

Abstract:In this contribution, we study the notion of affine invariance (specifically, invariance to the shifting, scaling, and rotation of the coordinate system) as a starting point for the development of mathematical tools and approaches useful in the characterization and analysis of multivariate fractional Brownian motion (fBm) fields. In particular, using a rigorous and powerful distribution theoretic formulation, we extend previous results of Blu and Unser (2006) to the multivariate case, showing that polyharmonic splines and fBm processes can be seen as the (deterministic vs stochastic) solutions to an identical fractional partial differential equation that involves a fractional Laplacian operator. We then show that wavelets derived from polyharmonic splines have a behavior similar to the fractional Laplacian, which also turns out to be the whitening operator for fBm fields. This fact allows us to study the probabilistic properties of the wavelet transform coefficients of fBm-like processes, leading for instance to ways of estimating the Hurst exponent of a multiparameter process from its wavelet transform coefficients. We provide theoretical and experimental verification of these results. To complement the toolbox available for multiresolution processing of stochastic fractals, we also introduce an extended family of multidimensional multiresolution spaces for a large class of (separable and nonseparable) lattices of arbitrary dimensionality.
