Abstract:In this paper, we present a vibration measurement experiment on diesel engine and present a new processing approach for reconstructing cylinder pressure of internal combustion engines based on engine block vibration signals. The experiment set-up and results are discussed at first. It can be seen from the experiment data that different vibration measuring position on the diesel engine will affect the signal-noise ratio of the signals differently. And then, in order to reconstruct the cylinder pressure from the vibration signals due to measuring cylinder pressure directly is very difficult and expensive, we appliy radial basis function (RBF) networks to set up the non-parametric mapping model between cylinder pressure and engine block vibration signals to accomplish this task. The structure of a RBF network model is presented here and the selection methods for centers, widths and weights of the RBF and the learning algorithms are discussed also. Its application on cylinder pressure reconstruction is demonstrated on two-cylinder, four-stroke DI diesel engine with data form a wide range of speed and load settings. The prediction capabilities of the trained RBF network model are validated against measured data. Compared with other methods, such as transfer function method, time series analysis method etc., this processing method reconstructs the cylinder pressure more precise and more robust to the uncertainties. At last, we present the processing results and give conclusions.
