Influence Of Boundary Restraints On Active Control Of Sound Radiation From A Flexible Panel Backed By Acoustical Enclosure

Abstract:Enclosure is an important noise insulation technique, and widely used in various occasions, such as diesel engine. For the medium to high frequency range, satisfactory control effectiveness can be obtained. However, it does not work well for relatively low frequency. In this paper, active structural acoustic control (ASAC) is employed to attenuate the low frequency sound radiation from the enclosure bounded flexible panel. As a theoretical investigation, the structural-acoustic coupling model of a panel-cavity with another five rigid walls is established, in which the arbitrary boundary condition for the panel is taken into account. A point sound source put inside the enclosure is used to simulate a noisy power plant, and the acoustical wave in enclosure excites the panel, and causes the further sound radiation into free space. A secondary force is applied to the flexible panel, and the corresponding optimal amplitude and phase are found via quadratic optimal control theory by minimizing the radiated sound power. In numerical section, the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed model are demonstrated through the comparison with those modeled based on a so-called impedance-mobility approach. The influence of boundary restraints, position of secondary force as well as the cavity depth on the active control results are then discussed and analyzed. This work will shed some light on the effective design of ASAC system to improve noise insulation of enclosure in low frequency range.
