Framework of content-based multimedia retrieval for digital library

Abstract:One of the critical challenges in building up a practical digital library is the function of content-based multimedia information retrieval. We present a framework of 4-layers multimedia digital library based on XML, in which content-based image retrieval, content-based video retrieval, and content-based voice retrieval are considered in equal with content-based text retrieval. Using the framework a digital library system named iMdeia is implemented to support the function of content-based retrieval. Three core subsystems of iMedia have been done: ImageSeek for content-based image retrieval, NewsPaser for content-based video retrieval and PictureFilter between user and library for detecting interesting images and defending offensive images.
