Abstract:The key functions of a novel wide-area dynamic security monitoring system (DSMS) for power system and its dynamic simulation test are presented, the DSMS is constituted by three parts, they are: substations based on phasor measurement unit (PMU), a main station with a real-time synchrophasor data platform and an analysis center integrated with various real-time and post-event analysis software. The synchronous real-time measurement of the phasors and their packing and transmitting are performed by PMU; the phasor data from the dispersed substation are re-synchronized, stored and transferred by the data concentrator (DC) in main station to provide an open RTDB (Real Time Database) access interface for the other analysis software packages; the software for real- time on-line monitoring and past-event analysis are integrated in analysis centre to realize dynamic security analysis and monitoring of power system. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed system, partly and as a whole, an all-around dynamic simulation test was carried out in a 3-machine and 9- bus power system, which was constructed in Tsinghua University affiliated “State Key Laboratory of Control and Simulation of Power System and Generation Equipment”. The experimental simulations to be conducted include the measurement precision and dynamic responses of the system under the disturbances such as short-circuit fault, transmission line tripping, etc. The simulation results show that the presented DSMS possesses the capability to perform wide-area real-time monitoring and analysis on the dynamic processes occurred in practical power systems.
