Abstract:In this paper, a functional equation of the generating functions for rooted nearly 4-regular planar maps is provided. Based on this, the enumerating functions of loopless and nonseparable nearly 4-regular planar maps are found, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a solution of the functional equation unsolved in the paper, by the second author, “On functional equations arising from map enumerations” that appeared in Discrete Math , 123 : 93–109 (1993). It is also the number of combinatorial distinct rooted general eulerian planar maps with the valency of root-vertex, the number of non-root vertices and non-root faces of the maps as three parameters. In particular, a result in the paper, by the same author, “On the number of eulerian planar maps” that appeared in Acta Math Sinica , 12 : 418–423 (1992) is simplified.

Abstract:In this paper rooted (near-) 4-regular maps on the plane are counted with respect to the root-valency, the number of edges, the number of inner faces, the number of non-root vertex loops, the number of non-root vertex blocks, and the number of multi-edges. As special cases, formulae of several types of rooted 4-regular maps such as 2-connected 4-regular planar maps, rooted 2-connected (connected) 4-regular planar maps without loops are also presented. Several known results on 4-regular maps and trees of Tutte are also concluded. Finally, asymptotic formulae for the numbers of those types of maps are given.

Abstract:In this paper the number of rooted (near-) 4-regular maps on the projective plane are investigated with respect to the root-valency, the number of edges, the number of inner faces, the number of nonroot-vertex-loops, the number of nonroot-vertex-blocks. As special cases, formulae for several types of rooted 4-regular maps such as 2-connected 4-regular projective planar maps, rooted 2-connected (connected) 4-regular projective planar maps without loops are also presented. Several known results on the number of 4-regular maps on the projective plane are also concluded. Finally, by use of Darboux's method, very nice asymptotic formulae for the numbers of those types of maps are given.

Abstract:This paper provides quartic functional equations satisfied by the enumerating functions of rooted planar near-quadrangulations with the size, the valency of the root-face and the number of non-rooted vertices. Rooted two edge-connected planar near-quadrangulations are also counted. Furthermore, explicit formulae for such two types of maps with above parameters are derived respectively after employing Lagrangian inversion. For two particular cases, the numbers of rooted planar trees and outerplanar quadrangulations are deduced directly.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rooted nonseparable maps on the sphere and the projective plane with the valency of root-face and the number of edges as parameters. Explicit expression of enumerating functions are obtained for such maps on the sphere and the projective plane. A parametric expression of the generating function is obtained for such maps on the projective plane, from which asymptotic evaluations are derived. Moreover, if the number of edges is sufficiently large, then almost all nonseparable maps on the projective plane are not triangulation.

Abstract:The enumerative functional equation of maps by the number of inner faces, the valency of root face and the number of non-rooted vertices on the projective plane is studied. An explicit expression for the generating function by the number of inner faces and the number of non-rooted vertices is obtained. From this result, the enumeration of rooted maps by the number of edges discussed in [1] is obtained as a corollary.
