Abstract:The characters of advanced polymer matrix composite were briefly introduced.From the application point of view,a summary of such materials,as well as the current situation and future development of their major manufacturing processes,were given.The application history of advanced polymer matrix composites in aviation industry was reviewed,and the latest research results of the low temperature curing composites,E-beam technology curing composites,microwave absorbing structure composites,and nano-composites were reported.Finally the development emphasis of advanced polymer matrix composites was analyzed and discussed based on the requirements of domestic aircraft development.

Abstract:The research and application progress situations of liquid composite molding technology on aeronautics were summarized. The aerospace applications of the resin composite were summarized,the meaning of the liquid composite molding, the advantages and disadvantages of several typical liquid composite molding and their applications in the field of aviation were reviewed. The latest research progress of the liquid composite molding were summarized,some technical problems in the current stage of liquid composite molding were analyzed,and the aviation applications of auxiliary liquid composite molding such as automated placement technology and utilization of liquid composite molding on load-bearing structure were generalized. Focus on the gap between domestic and foreign liquid composite molding,it was discussed for that the urgent problems waiting to be solved of liquid composite molding,and the future development prospects were prospected of liquid composite molding. It is believed that the liquid composite molding will gradually realize the integration,automation,digitalization and intelligent development.

Abstract:Advanced composite materials (ACM) have become the basic materials of the aerospace engineering. In this paper, the requirements and the applications of ACM in the aerospace engineering were presented. Some hot-spot technological fields, such as lattice materials and structures, nano-composite materials and multi-functional materials, were introduced. Their potential applications and developments were prospected. Finally, the problems to be resolved about raw materials, low cost, integration of design and evaluation in ACM were discussed.

Abstract:This paper briefly reviews mechanics problems related to applications of advanced composite mate- rials in the structures of modern large aircraft,including the manufacturing and processing,trans-scale mate- rial/structural integrated design and characterization of materials properties,high-efficiency structural design and analysis,damage tolerance and durability,and safety monitoring and management systems.It is shown that there is a strong need for domestic researchers and engineers to work together to advance the research and applications of advanced composite materials so as to ensure that they play an important role in the development of large aircraft in China.

Abstract:Due to lack of the engineering AFP system platform in China, studying on the AFP techno-nogy moves very slowly. The research status of advanced polymer matrix composites AFP technology is discussed mainly based on the first AFP engineering system in China for research platform. The ifber tape laying technol-ogy, the properties of the fiber tape, special mould used for the AFP and the AFP control software are analyzed from different angles. The typical aeronautic composites structure is studied by using the AFP technology, a lot of main problems and solutions of the AFP technology at the present stage in China is summed up. The AFP technology system are initially formed.Finally,based on the engineering experiences, the main tendency of the advanced polymer matrix composites AFP technology in China are discussed.

Abstract:In recent years, carbon composite materials are used more and more widely, and the technology is more and more mature. Among the carbon fiber composites, one material has become an important structural material in the aerospace field, which is carbon fiber epoxy resin composite material (CFERCM). Since the advent of CFERCM, it has been developed into an ideal structural material because of its high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, high modulus and so on. In order to have a better understanding of the properties and applications of CFERCM, this paper mainly uses research method of review, systematically summarizes the development and applications in the field of aerospace and aviation to display the relationship between its properties and applications, showing the characteristic of CFERCM. As for the development, it mainly includes the history, preparation and properties of CFERCM. After that, this paper introduces two main fields of application, which are aerospace and aviation. Finally, some prospects of CFERCM in the future are presented and suggested for further studies. This paper concludes that CFERCM is a new, relatively simple to prepare, excellent structural material, it is widely used, especially in the field of aerospace.

Abstract:Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) have excellent properties such as light weight, high strength, high modulus and high temperature resistance, and have wide application prospect in the fields of national defense, aerospace and high-end civilian products. Various methods have been exploited to modify the CF to increase the surface activity, roughness and wettability, so that the interfacial adhesion between fiber and matrix could be improved for better mechanical properties, which is helpful to meet the needs of more fields for high -performance CFRP. In this review, the recent progress of CF surface modification methods and their reinforc-ing effects on composites are mainly summarized. Finally, some issues of CFRP are discussed and the future trends of interfacial reinforcement research are prospected.

Abstract:In recent years, a lot of progress has been created on aerospace materials for structural and engineering applications. Composites are made when two or more different materials are combined to create superior and distinctive materials. For aerospace engineering, there is considerable progress in material science and engineering with the technological challenges in terms of subtle and specialized materials like composite materials. These days composites materials have gotten necessary in aerospace engineering because of their high specific strength at lower weight, stiffness, and corrosion resistance. Apart from it, nanotube benefits also have an essential role in advancement in the aerospace applications. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) applications have progressively enlarged because of its excellent options exhibited by these materials. The potential applications of CNTs are enlarged by an oversized variety of various applications in scientific fields, like storing energy, biological applications, and emission. Besides that, various fillers were utilized to increase the thermal conductivity of the chemical compound composite matrix. In order to take full advantage of these nanofiller, it is critical to control the distribution of nanofillers within the polymer matrix, as this structural organization affects how the two constituent components interact with one another. Thus, this chapter investigates the advancement of composite in aerospace applications in terms of opportunities, challenges, and future perspective.

Abstract:Advanced composite materials have excellent performance and broad engineering application prospects, and have received widespread attention in recent years. Advanced composite materials can mainly be divided into fiber-reinforced composite materials, laminated composite materials, matrix composite materials, and other composite materials. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the types and characteristics of advanced composite materials, and provides a comprehensive evaluation of the latest research on structural strengthening and resilience improvement in advanced composite materials from the perspectives of new methods, modeling optimization, and practical applications. In the field of fiber-reinforced composite materials, the hybrid technology of carbon fiber and glass fiber can achieve dual advantages in combining the two materials. The maximum increase in mechanical properties of multilayer sandwich RH plate by hybrid technology is 435.4% (tensile strength), 149.2% (flexural strength), and 110.7~114.2% (shear strength), respectively. In the field of laminated composite materials, different mechanical properties of laminated composite materials can be obtained by changing the deposition sequence. In the field of matrix composites, nano copper oxide particles prepared by nanotechnology can increase the hardness and tensile strength of the metal matrix material by 77% and 78%, respectively. In the field of other composite materials, viscoelastic materials and magnetorheological variants have received widespread attention. The development of composite materials benefits from the promotion of new methods and technologies, but there are still problems such as complex preparation, high cost, and unstable performance. Considering the characteristics, application requirements, cost, complexity, and performance of different types of composite materials, further improvements and innovations are needed in modeling and optimization to better meet practical engineering needs, such as the application of advanced composite materials in civil engineering, ships, automobiles, batteries, and other fields.

Abstract:Additive manufacturing technology brings new revolutionary potential for the development of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites. Continuous carbon fiber reinforced composites developed using fused deposition modeling technology have the characteristics of high specific strength, high specific modulus, light weight, and flexible design, which is the solution direction for low-cost, rapid, and flexible application of advanced composite materials in the future. In this paper, the preparation of continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites with continuous carbon fibers as reinforcement and thermoplastic/thermoset as matrix, surface modification and their mechanical properties are investigated, the interfacial characteristics and properties of continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites under different pretreatment processes, auxiliary processes and post-treatment processes are studied, and the connection between the micro-morphology and the mechanical properties of this composite is further analyzed. The direction of defect resolution of continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites fabricated by fused deposition technology is provided, and the future development direction is envisioned.

Abstract:In the air and ground transportation sectors, new environmental regulations and societal concerns have triggered a search for new products and processes that complement resources and the environment. To address the issues, this article reports on current R&D efforts to develop bio-sourced materials by an internationally joint project. Novel bio-sourced epoxies, continuous plant fibers and prepregs, and biocomposites were developed, characterized, modified and evaluated in terms of the mechanical properties and hygrothermal stability levels. Quasi-structural composite parts are finally trial manufactured and demonstrated.

Abstract:Until recently metals were mostly used in the construction of aerospace structures, however, advances in materials science, especially in composites science and technology, allowed the development of promising new materials for aerospace engineering. Composites are hybrid materials developed by combining two or more components, in order to utilize the advantageous features of each component. Recently, fiber-reinforced polymer composites, developed by reinforcing different types of matrices with fibrous materials have garnered tremendous attention in aerospace engineering. Aerospace materials carry the loads exerted on the airframe of the aircraft during its flight operation from take-off, through cruising, to the final landing stage. Aerospace materials are also used in primary and secondary structural parts, including rocket motor castings, antenna dishes, engine nacelles, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, center wing boxes, aircraft wings, pressure bulkheads, landing gear doors, engine cowls, floor beams, tall cones, flap track panels, vertical and horizontal stabilizers, and so on. Some of these components are considered safety-critical. Aerospace materials also encompass jet engine structural materials such as turbine blades and other important components.
