Abstract:The equations of the reflective disk computer-generated grating scanner are presented. The grating scanner with a high diffraction efficiency is fabricated by use of a novel technique. The character of the grating scanner is discussed.

Abstract:A new algorithm for calculating computer-generated holograms (CGH's) is proposed. The hologram fringe pattern data is stored in the computer image format, and transmitted to a transmission-type liquid crystal panel by the video signal. It will be used for the real-time three-dimension imaging by holographic reconstruction. Questions of the effect of the solution, the contrast ratio of the liquid crystal panel and the modulation due to the gray-level of the hologram image are addressed. Therefore the distribution of the amplitude and phase on the holographic plane is determinated by confirming image plane distribution considering the above effects. The reconstructed data is made as similar as possible to the source data by the optimal code. Experimental results,and value the quality of the reconstructed image are given.

Abstract:In this paper the research of the real-time three-dimensional holographic imaging system which uses liquid crystal panels to display the computer generated Fresnel holograms for reconstructed 3D images is described. The reconstructed effects are related to each step of the process and the characteristics of the devices. The contradictions between the quantization of holographic numerical data and the properties of the display device are the important reasons for the reconstruction errors. A new algorithm for calculating point holograms is proposed for reducing the reconstruction errors. Finally the original experimental result is given.

Abstract:Holographic display has attracted considerable attention for its high-contrast, low power consumption, wide color gamut and potentials for three-dimensional (3D) display. Although computer-generated hologram (CGH) has the potential for reconstructing all the 3D information of an object, complicated 3D modeling and time-consuming computation are big challenges faced by current 3D holographic display. A simple yet effective method to realize holographic 3D display by shifted Fraunhofer diffraction has been presented in this paper. After a 3D object is divided into a set of layers in axial direction, these layers are calculated into corresponding sub-holograms by Fraunhofer diffraction. The hologram uploaded on SLM consists of sub-holograms in a tiling approach. Both simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the feasibility of shifted Fraunhofer diffraction. Detailed analysis of computational cost has also been carried out, and the comparison between shifted Fresnel diffraction and shifted Fraunhofer diffraction in the proposed method has been analyzed. The Analysis results shows that the process of 3D modeling is simple, that is the computational complexity is accordingly reduced compared with shifted Fraunhofer diffraction. The experimental results demonstrate that our method can reconstruct multi-plane 3D object with continuous depth map. It is expected that the proposed method may provide a better solution in future holographic 3D display research.
Super-resolution digital holography by beam scanning

Abstract:Based on super-resolution imaging theory, a beam scanning super-resolution digital holographic technique is proposed. Applying Fresnel diffraction theory, this technique is proved to enlarge the equivalent dimension of CCD and increase the cutoff frequency of optical system, so this method can improve the imaging resolution of digital holography. The simulation verify the validity and feasibility of this method. The method of hologram processing and reconstruction is summarized. Compared with synthetic-aperture digital holography, the proposed technique needs not to move CCD camera and change the angle of reference waves that correspond to different CCD camera position for avoiding under-sampling.

Abstract:In the current research on holography,CGH(Computer-Generated Hologram),as for flexibility and ease of operation,has been discussed widely.However,there is not any ideal method for CGH and reconstruction of 3-D scene.This paper analyzes two methods to simulate the diffraction field,proposes a CGH method for 3-D scene,and accelerates the speed with the parallel computing technology.Taking the scene with four different depths as an example,the simulation results show that the algorithm is effective and feasible and the parallel computing technology accelerates the speed for four times.

Abstract:The combination of holographic gratings with freeform surface technology has led to a significant breakthrough in terms of the performance of imaging spectrometers. In this paper, a general direct design method that is capable of designing imaging spectrometers that include holographic gratings based on a complex-shaped surface substrate and their corresponding recording systems is proposed. The most important feature of this method is that the recording and imaging systems are designed within one optical system model, thus allowing for an optimal balance to be achieved between the aberration correction capability and the manufacturability of the holographic grating. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, three imaging spectrometers were designed that used holographic gratings manufactured by a recording system without auxiliary mirrors, a system with a spherical auxiliary mirror, and a system with a freeform auxiliary mirror. Ultimately, these three systems all achieved diffraction-limited imaging quality with minimal distortion.

Abstract:Gratings with low diffracted wavefront errors are crucial in many applications. Existing methods to reduce the diffracted wavefront errors of holographically produced gratings mainly address misalignment errors during exposure system adjustment, leaving the inevitable residual errors of collimation lenses uncorrected. The broad-beam scanning exposure method was recently proposed to fabricate gratings with large size and low stray light. We explore its ability to reduce the diffracted wavefront errors caused by both system misalignment and lens errors. During the exposure, the substrate translates in the direction perpendicular to the grating lines to pass through the exposure area, so the aberrations over different parts of the interference field along the scanning path are averaged. We prove the validity of this method by a theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. The averaging effect on different aberrations and with different scanning lengths is discussed. The peak-valley values of diffracted wavefront errors of gratings fabricated with an exposure field of defocus aberration and a more complicated aberration were reduced by 42.5% and 50%, respectively. Abstract:As a new type of grating, the freestanding blazed transmission grating combines the advantages of traditional transmission gratings (low mass, relaxed alignment and flatness figure insensitivity) with those of reflection gratings (high broadband diffraction efficiency, high spectral resolution). A freestanding blazed transmission grating with period of 1μm was successfully fabricated by holographic lithography and anisotropic wet etching of silicon. The duty cycle is about 0.13. The aspect ratio of a single grating bar is about 77. The thickness is 10μm and the open area fraction is about 58.8%. The size of a single die is 15mm×15mm divided into four 5mm ×5mm windows. The diffraction efficiency of the grating was measured at the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory in the wavelength region of 5-50nm. The results show a strong blazing effect in the direction of specular reflection from mirror-like grating sidewalls, as expected.

Abstract:Due to the ability of self-focusing and aberration-eliminating, varied line spacing holographic gratings have been the significant elements in high-resolution spectrometers and synchrotron radiation monochromators. Uniform line spacing plane gratings are introduced into recording systems to generate aspheric wavefronts to record varied line spacing plane holographic gratings. Analytical expressions of groove parameters are derived up to the forth order with ray-tracing theory of geometry optics. A numerical ray-tracing algorithm is provided based on Fermat's principle. A varied line spacing holographic grating is designed by applying the derived forth order expressions of grating parameters. Other diffractive light will not disturb the recording process when the recording parameters are properly selected. According to the design example, theoretical groove density parameters are very close to the required value. The truncation error of series expansion is less than 1.5 lines in the recording area through the validation of numerical ray-tracing algorithm. Considering the tolerances in practical fabrication, this mounting is not sensitive to the errors of recording parameters. Design results demonstrate the exactness of analytical expressions, and the superiority of recording optics with auxiliary gratings.
Holographic Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal Grating with Low Scattering Losses

Abstract:A simple method to fabricate low-scattering holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystal grating is proposed. The optical efficiencies of the grating are tested. The results show that the scattering losses are almost totally suppressed, at less than 0.25%, and the diffraction efficiency of the grating reaches as high as 99%, indicating a great improvement compared with grating fabricated in the conventional way. In addition, the electro-optical performance maintains good behaviour, and thermo-stability testing shows that the good optical properties of the grating can be maintained in a relatively wide temperature range, satisfying the application requirements of displays and other optical instruments.

Abstract:We propose a new computer-controlled phase-shifting method based on computer-generated holograms (CGHs) displayed on a spatial light modulator (SLM). In this method the accurate phase shifts required in phase-shifting digital holography or interferometry are induced by a suitable transformation of the encoding patterns of the CGH displayed on a SLM. Both the theoretical analysis and the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of this approach. We also discuss possible applications of this method in the field of interferometric null testing of aspheres. (C) 2003 Optical Society of America.

Abstract:Volume holograms can record and reproduce three-dimensional object. Compared with planar holograms, volume holograms can improve the resolution, stereo perception and realism of anti-counterfeiting, and realize three-dimensional anti-counterfeiting. In order to improve the diffraction efficiency and anti-counterfeiting effect of volume holographic anti-counterfeiting, this paper proposes a reflection volume holographic three-dimensional anti-counterfeiting method based on photopolymer. The diffraction characteristics and influencing factors are analyzed by Kogelnik’s coupled wave theory. Based on Piazzolla’s monomer diffusion model, the effects of exposure energy and exposure intensity on refractive index modulation and diffraction efficiency were studied. The simulation results show that the reflection volume holograms can achieve a greater refractive index modulation, with higher diffraction efficiency, stronger wavelength selectivity, which enhances the effect of three-dimensional anti-counterfeiting.
