Abstract:A calcium ion self-terminating laser with high-repetition-frequency has been achieved by longitudinal discharge stimulation. The maximum average laser power of 176 mW is obtained. Some parameters are measured and its characteristics are discussed.

Abstract:The simultaneous oscillations of calcium ion recombination and self-terminating laser is analysed theoretically and obtained in the experiment for the first time through improving discharge circuit and cavity structure. The maximum average output power reaches 70 mW. The photo-electro pulse waveforms is measured and discussed.

Abstract:An average power of 50 mW was experimentally obtained in a Ca+ recombination laser. The properties of the Ca+ recombination laser were studied through varying operation parameters, such as buffer gas pressure, pulse repetition rate and input electrical power. The relation between the parameters has been measured and the operation characteristic was analyzed.

Abstract:The conclusion is gained that calcium ion can serve as working medium for resonance-metestable (R-M) transition laser well enough by the analysis of its energy levels. Using Ne as buffer gas, an average laser power of 406mW and maximum power density of 6.9 mW/cm(3) are obtained in a discharge tube with 45cm electrode interval and 12.9 mm inner diameter. Some characteristics of the calcium ion R-M transition laser are studied and the relations of some parameters are determined.

Abstract:In longitudinal pulse discharge excited Sr+, Ca+ recombination laser, the discharge current pulse waveform of three different discharge circuits were measured and analyzed respectively. It is found that using non-symmetrical Blumlein circuit, the after low oscillation of the discharge current pulse can be effectively eliminated. The average output power and single pulse energy of the laser can be increased.

Abstract:A cataphoretic input of calcium vapour into the active volume of pulsed He-Ca+ laser is designed and made. The recombination laser at 373.3 nm and the R-M transition laser at 854.6 nm are achieved experimentally with modified Blumlein circuit by high-frequency longitudinal pulsed discharge. The dependences of work parameters such as the pulse frequency, the power supply voltage and the helium pressure on laser output characteristics at 373.3 nm line are measured and discussed. The maximum laser output power of 136 mW and the specific power of 5.9 mW/cm(3) are obtained, respectively.

Abstract:A concise computer model has been developed to simulate the plasma kinetics of the self-terminating and recombination lasers in single strontium ions excited by longitudinal pulsed discharge. The results predicted by the model indicate that the univalent ions of calcium and strontium are the ideal lasing substances both for self-terminating laser and recombination laser. With the improvement of the discharge circuit, the structure of the laser cavity, and the discharge tube, the alternate oscillations of the two class lasers were successively realized by longitudinal pulsed discharge in mixture vapors of helium and single strontium or calcium ions. The dependence of laser performance on working parameters, together with the characteristics of the photoelectric pulse waveforms, were measured and analyzed.

Abstract:Simultaneous oscillation of resonance-metastable transition laser in calcium atoms and ions was obtained in a discharge tube with 1.3cm inner diameter and 46cm electrode separation through longitudinal high frequency pulse discharge.The maximum laser output power and laser efficiency reach 1.1W and 0.1 percent respectively.Laser output characteristics depend on various working parameters and the ratio of Pi/Pa were measured and analyzed.

On the basis of analyzing similarities and differences of their prompting mechanisms, some preparatory contrast experimental studies were undertaken.

Abstract:Calcium is one prospective element for the modern optical frequency standard. The 423-nm transition line of calcium atoms has been widely used in laser slowing and laser cooling, the precise spectrum measurement, and the magnetic optical trapping (MOT). However, there is no any available commercial diode laser working at this wavelength. We built a 423-nm laser based on extra bow-tie cavity and by using a Brewstercut uncoated BIBO (BiB3O6) crystal, which worked at room temperature, with conversion efficiency of 3.75%, and a potential up to 20%.

Abstract:A systematic investigation was made for the R-M transition and recombination lasers in strontium ions by the longitudinal pulse discharge-excited with the helium buffer gas in a quartz discharge tube of 9 mm inner diameter and 42cm electrode's separation. The laser power of each-line as a function of different working parameters, as well as the corresponding photo-electrical pulse waveforms were analyzed and observed for two kinds of optical cavity. A set of better operating parameters was also obtained for the multi-line strontium ion laser.

Abstract:A new pumped system and design method of XeCl* laser is accomplished in order to be applied in the interaction between laser and material. material plasma study. and to prepare quartz film, semiconductor film. CMR film, optical etching. and other kinds of films. Not only does high power XeCl laser systems adopt ns discharge. spark gap. UV preionization. glow discharge, design of symmetrical electrode. but also electrode calculation. reducing, circuit inductance. laser resonator design are finished. The characteristics of the XeCl excimer laser are measured and analyzed. The wavelength is 308 run. The pulse width is IS us. The output energy of a pulse is 300 mJ. The maximal repetition frequency is 5 Hz. It is shown that. under real experimental conditions. the growth output power of the XeCl excimer laser depends on the gas pressure. a suitable composition of mixture gas is He : Xe : He = 0.1% : 1% : 98.9%. and the gain of higher discharged voltage Situation. The velocity equation of the kinetic model is tested by comparison with experimental data. A new high-power excimer laser is obtained with high energy. simple structure. high pump intensity. large activate volume. and stable performance. The laser action pushing the matter into extreme non-equilibrium leads to material ejection from the target. produces ablation. spilling eclosion.

Abstract:The linewidth of a 397nm laser was narrowed below 1MHz by locking it to a Fabry-Perot interferometer. In addition, the cavity length of the interferometer was referenced to the Optogalvanic signal of calcium ions. The long-term drift of the laser frequency was reduced below 10MHz over 2h. This frequency stabilization was also applied to an 866nm laser. With such lasers, we can achieve better signals from a single calcium ion confined in a miniature Paul trap.

Abstract:We report a laser-diode end-pumped high-repetition frequency laser operating at 1.34 μm. Under acousto-optic Q-switched operation frequency of 50, 75, and 100 kHz, we study experimentally the characteristics of the output pulse versus the pump power. At 11.6 W pump power and 100 kHz repetition rate, we obtain an average output power of 2.33 W with a pulse width of 153.6 ns and a peak power of 150 W. We achieve a peak–peak pulse fluctuation of less than 10%.

Abstract:A diode-pumped passively mode-locked Nd, La: CaF2 laser has been investigated by using a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) for the first time. With Nd, La: CaF2 disordered crystal as gain medium, the mode-locked laser generated pulses with pulse duration of 11 ps and repetition rate of 87.5 MHz at the central wavelength of 1065.8 nm. The maximum average output power was 110 mW corresponding to pulse energy of 1.26 nJ and peak power of 115 W, respectively. Additionally, continuous wave (CW) laser output performance of Nd, La: CaF2 was investigated, and the maximum average output power was as high as 488 mW. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

Abstract:The nanosecond self-pulsing operation of a midinfrared solid-state laser with no additional passive absorbers is reported in this paper. A proof-of-principle demonstration of the cooperatively enhanced reabsorption method, in which two laserdiode-pumped erbium gain media share the same laser resonator, is proposed. The two excited media act cooperatively to enhance the reabsorption effect and amplify the generated signal pulses. Under the pump power of 3.8 W, pulses with a pulse repetition rate of 6.2 kHz, an average output power of 107 mW, and a single pulsewidth of 185 ns are obtained.

High Power Laser Science and Engineering

Abstract:A 100-J-level Nd:glass laser system in nanosecond-scale pulse width has been constructed to perform as a standard source of high-fluence-laser science experiments. The laser system, operating with typical pulse durations of 3–5 ns and beam diameter 60 mm, employs a sequence of successive rod amplifiers to achieve 100-J-level energy at 1053 nm at3 ns. The frequency conversion can provide energy of 50-J level at 351 nm. In addition to the high stability of the energy output, the most valuable of the laser system is the high spatiotemporal beam quality of the output, which contains the uniform square pulse waveform, the uniform flat-top spatial fluence distribution and the uniform flat-top wavefront.

Abstract:In this letter, we report a diode-pumped nano-second laser with the output energy 10 J, the repetition rate 50 Hz, and the average power 500 W. The main amplifier was made up of eight amplify modules. Each amplify module was pumped by an 808 nm laser diode and cooled by water from the back end of the Nd:YAG slab. To our knowledge, this represents the highest pulse repetition rate for the 10 J class nano-second single-aperture Nd:YAG laser. The beam quality was controlled by means of mechanical design and adjustment and compensation by a home-made deforming mirror. The beam quality was controlled well with the beam quality of the laser 2.61DL.
