Abstract:Entanglement evolution of two independent Jaynes-Cummings atoms without the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is studied by a numerically exact approach. Previous results based on the RWA are essentially modified in the strong-coupling regime (g >= 0.1), which has been reached in the recent experiments on the flux qubit coupled to the LC resonator. For the initial Bell state with anticorrelated spins, entanglement sudden death (ESD) is absent in the RWA but does appear in the present numerical calculation without the RWA. Aperiodic entanglement evolution in the strong-coupling regime is observed. The strong atom-cavity coupling facilitates the ESD. The sign of the detuning plays an essential role in the entanglement evolution for strong coupling, which is irrelevant in the RWA. Analytical results based on an unitary transformation are also given, which could not modify the RWA picture essentially. It is suggested that the activation of the photons may be the origin of ESD in this system.

Abstract:Squeezed coherent states are coherent stares in quasi-particle space. We note that the characteristic of the single mode cavity field in a squeezed coherent state with sufficiently large amplitude is analogous to that of the single mode cavity field in a coherent state and is isomorphic to a two-state particle with spin - 1/2. A scheme is presented to prepare spin-type Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ)states of three cavities in squeezed coherent states via the Jaynes-Cummings model with large detuning.

Abstract:We study the quantum phase transition (QPT) in a non-Hermitian Tavis-Cummings (TC) model of experimentally accessible parameters, which is engineered with two drive fields applied to an ensemble of two-level systems (TLSs) and a cavity, respectively. When the two drive fields satisfy a given parameter-matching condition, the coupled cavity-TLS ensemble system can be described by an effective standard TC Hamiltonian in the rotating frame. In this ideal Hermitian case, the engineered TC model can exhibit the super-radiant QPT with spin conservation at an experimentally accessible critical coupling strength, but the QPT is, however, spoiled by the decoherence. We find that in this non-Hermitian case, the QPT can be recovered by introducing a gain in the cavity to balance the loss of the TLS ensemble. Also, the spin-conservation law is found to be violated due to the decoherence of the system. Our study offers an experimentally realizable approach to implementing QPT in the non-Hermitian TC model.

Abstract:The Jaynes-Cummings Model (JCM) is a fundamental model and building block for light-matter interactions, quantum information and quantum computation. We analytically analyze the topological feature manifested by the JCM in the presence of non-Hermiticity which may be effectively induced by dissipation and decay rates. Indeed, the eigenstates of the JCM are topologically characterized by spin windings in two-dimensional plane. The non-Hermiticity tilts the spin winding plane and induces out-of-plane component, while the topological feature is maintained. In particular, besides the invariant spin texture nodes, we find a non-Hermiticity-induced reversal transition of the tilting angle and spin winding direction with a fractional phase gain at gap closing, a partially level-independent reversal transition without gap closing, and a completely level-independent super invariant point with untilted angle and also without gap closing. Our result demonstrates that the topological feature is robust against non-Hermiticity, which would be favorable in practical applications. On the other hand, one may conversely make use of the disadvantageous dissipation and decay rates to reverse the spin winding direction, which might add a control way for topological manipulation of quantum systems in light-matter interactions.

Abstract:Using superconducting quantum circuit elements, we propose an approach to experimentally construct a Kitaev lattice, which is an anisotropic spin model on a honeycomb lattice with three types of nearest-neighbor interactions and having topologically protected ground states. We study two particular parameter regimes to demonstrate both vortex and bond-state excitations. Our proposal outlines an experimentally realizable artificial many-body system that exhibits exotic topological properties.

Abstract:A model based on pure decoherence for the Jaynes–Cummings spin–boson system, coupled through its integral of motion to an infinite bosonic bath, is proposed and examined. The properties of the spin oscillation process suggest an initial entanglement between the environment and the spin–boson degrees of freedom. The study demonstrates that the potential applicability of the Jaynes–Cummings model in detecting non-orthogonal bosonic states is preserved in the presence of pure decoherence.

Nonlocality under Jaynes-Cummings evolution: beyond pseudospin operators

Abstract:We re-visit the generation and evolution of (Bell) nonlocality in hybrid scenarios whose dynamics is determined by the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian, a relevant example of which is the atom-cavity system. Previous approaches evaluate the nonlocality through the well-known qubit-qubit CHSH formulae, using combinations of pseudospin operators for the electromagnetic (EM) field observables. While such approach is sensible, it is far from optimal. In the present work we have used recent results on the optimal Bell violation in qubit-qudit systems, showing that the nonlocality is much greater than previously estimated, both with and without noise. We perform also an optimal treatment of the noise, so our results are optimal in this sense as well. We illustrate the results using different initial states for the EM field, including squeezed and coherent states. In addition, we study the asymptotic behavior of the entanglement. Remarkably, starting with a generic separable (pure) coherent state, the asymptotic (mixed) state is entangled, though does not violate Bell inequalities.

Abstract:The Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard (JCH) model is a fundamental many-body model for light-matter interaction. As a leading platform for quantum simulation, the trapped ion system has realized the JCH model for two to three ions. Here, we report the quantum simulation of the JCH model using up to 32 ions. We verify the simulation results even for large ion numbers by engineering low excitations and thus low effective dimensions; then we extend to 32 excitations for an effective dimension of 2^{77}, which is difficult for classical computers. By regarding the phonon modes as baths, we explore Markovian or non-Markovian spin dynamics in different parameter regimes of the JCH model, similar to quantum emitters in a structured photonic environment. We further examine the dependence of the non-Markovian dynamics on the effective Hilbert space dimension. Our Letter demonstrates the trapped ion system as a powerful quantum simulator for many-body physics and open quantum systems.
Quantum phase transition of the Jaynes-Cummings model

Abstract:Herein, we propose an experimentally feasible scheme to show the quantum phase transition of the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model by modulating the transition frequency of a two-level system in a quantum Rabi model with strong coupling. By tuning the modulation frequency and amplitude, the ratio of the effective coupling strength of the rotating terms to the effective cavity (atomic transition) frequency can enter the deep-strong coupling regime, while the counter-rotating terms can be neglected. Thus, a deep-strong JC model is obtained. The ratio of the coupling strength to resonance frequencies in the deep-strong JC model is two orders of magnitude larger than the corresponding ratio in the original quantum Rabi model. Our scheme can be employed in atom-cavity resonance and off-resonance cases, and it is valid over a broad range. The nonzero average cavity photons of the ground state indicate the emergence of a quantum phase transition. Further, we demonstrate the dependence of the phase diagram on the atom-cavity detuning and modulation parameters. All the parameters used in our scheme are within the reach of current experimental technology. Our scheme provides a new mechanism for investigating the critical phenomena of finite-sized systems without requiring classical field limits, thereby opening a door for studying fundamental quantum phenomena occurring in the ultrastrong and even deep-strong coupling regimes.

Abstract:In this study, we investigate and simulate the behavior of the generalized dispersive Jaynes–Cummings model (GDJCM) by introducing two time-dependent periodic states, which we call 'rotating coherent states'. The GDJCM describes a two-level atom in a Kerr-like medium exposed to a single-mode radiation field in the regime of large detuning. This version of the Jaynes–Cummings model (JCM) is important in some practical applications of quantum mechanics. In the large detuning regime, the Hamiltonian takes a simple and effective form, allowing us to monitor the temporal evolution of the composite system. We calculate various properties of both the atom and the field, including mixtureness, linear entropy, entanglement, von Neumann entropy, and Schmidt decomposition as an analytical function of time. A suitable deformation function is employed to describe the Kerr-like medium. Furthermore, we investigate and compare the effects of two distinct non-linearity parameters on the states of the atom and field, both analytically and visually. It is shown that by selecting an appropriate non-linearity parameter, it becomes possible to generate some specific types of states for the radiation field from the defined rotating coherent states.

Abstract:A so far most generalized Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model, which includes not only various ordinary JC models but also a special model describing spin-orbit interaction, is investigated from an algebraic point of view. We find that an alternative representation of su(2) algebra arises naturally from the system. This structure plays an essential role in the generalized system: As one result, the system behaves like a spin-1/2 system moving in a magnetic field. So it is rather easy to obtain the energy levels, eigenstates, and the time evolution operator, or any other quantities of physical interest. Two special cases are considered. Finally, a possible generalization to the three-level system is discussed.

Abstract:Besides exploring novel transition patterns, acquiring a full understanding of the transition nature is an ultimate pursuit in studies of phase transitions. The fundamental models of light-matter interactions manifest single-qubit topological phase transitions, which is calling for an analytical demonstration apart from numerical studies. We present a rigorous study for topological transitions in Jaynes-Cummings Model generally with Stark non-linear Coupling. In terms of the properties of Hermite polynomials, we show that the topological structure of the eigen wave function has an exact correspondence to the spin winding by nodes, which yields a full spin winding without anti-winding nodes. The spurious fractional contribution to the winding number of the winding angle at infinity is found to be actually integer. Thus, the phase transitions in the model have a nature of topological phase transitions and the excitation number is endowed as a topological quantum number. The principal transition establishes a paradigmatic case that a transition is both symmetry-breaking Landau class of transition and symmetry-protected topological class of transition simultaneously, while conventionally these two classes of transitions are incompatible due to the contrary symmetry requirements. We also give an understanding for the origin of unconventional topological transitions in the presence of counter-rotating terms. Our results may provide a deeper insight for the few-body phase transitions in light-matter interactions.

Abstract:We demonstrate a qubit readout scheme that exploits the Jaynes-Cummings nonlinearity of a superconducting cavity coupled to transmon qubits. We find that in the strongly-driven dispersive regime of this system, there is the unexpected onset of a high-transmission "bright" state at a critical power which depends sensitively on the initial qubit state. A simple and robust measurement protocol exploiting this effect achieves a single-shot fidelity of 87% using a conventional sample design and experimental setup, and at least 61% fidelity to joint correlations of three qubits.

Abstract:Motivated by the work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 220404 (2002)] for detecting the vacuum-induced Berry phases with two-mode Jaynes-Cummings models (JCMs), we show here that, for a parameter-dependent single-mode JCM, certain atom-field states also acquire the photon-number-dependent Berry phases after the parameter slowly changed and eventually returned to its initial value. This geometric effect related to the field quantization still exists, even the filed is kept in its vacuum state. Specifically, a feasible Ramsey interference experiment with cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) system is designed to detect the vacuum-induced Berry phase.

Abstract:Generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states of solid-state spins is of great significance for quantum metrology and quantum error correction. We propose here an efficient scheme for generating high fidelity GHZ states in a solid-state setup where multiple silicon-vacancy (SiV) centers are embedded in a quasi-onedimensional acoustic diamond waveguide. The lattice distortion gives rise to a strong strain coupling between the orbital degree of freedom of SiV centers and the continuum phonon modes. Due to the permutation symmetry, we can take advantage of the decoherence-free subspace to avoid dissipation. Under the quantum Zeno regime, two control fields are used to achieve a ladderlike coupling structure in decoherence-free subspace along with an off-resonant two-photon Raman transition process. We calculate the pulse sequences for N = 4 and at the same time analyze the effect of different collective decay rates. Moreover, we consider the disorder in the imperfect position of SiV centers and the inhomogeneous strain coupling. This paper may provide a feasible protocol for the generation of GHZ states in a solid-state system.
Cavity-mediated entanglement of parametrically driven spin qubits via sidebands

Abstract:We consider a pair of quantum dot-based spin qubits that interact via microwave photons in a superconducting cavity, and that are also parametrically driven by separate external electric fields. For this system, we formulate a model for spin qubit entanglement in the presence of mutually off-resonant qubit and cavity frequencies. We show that the sidebands generated via the driving fields enable highly tunable qubit-qubit entanglement using only ac control and without requiring the qubit and cavity frequencies to be tuned into simultaneous resonance. The model we derive can be mapped to a variety of qubit types, including detuning-driven one-electron spin qubits in double quantum dots and three-electron resonant exchange qubits in triple quantum dots. The high degree of nonlinearity inherent in spin qubits renders these systems particularly favorable for parametric drive-activated entanglement. We determine multiple common resonance conditions for the two driven qubits and the cavity and identify experimentally relevant parameter regimes that enable the implementation of entangling gates with suppressed sensitivity to cavity photon occupation and decay. The parametrically driven sideband resonance approach we describe provides a promising route toward scalability and modularity in spin-based quantum information processing through drive-enabled tunability that can also be implemented in micromagnet-free electron and hole systems for spin-photon coupling.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state for N superconducting qubits in a circuit QED system. By sinusoidally modulating the qubit-qubit coupling, a synthetic magnetic field has been made which broken the time-reversal symmetry of the system. Directional rotation of qubit excitation can be realized in a three-qubit loop under the artificial magnetic field. Based on the special quality that the rotation of qubit excitation has different direction for single- and double-excitation loops, we can generate three-qubit GHZ state and extend this preparation method to arbitrary multiqubit GHZ state. Our analysis also shows that the scheme is robust to various operation errors and environmental noise.
