Abstract:Abnormal transport phenomena are generally found in supercritical fluids heat transfer due to their unique thermophysical properties on the gas–liquid critical point. In the vicinity of the critical point, static or transport properties of fluids can be scaled by the critical exponents along any thermal path being defined. In this work, with such scaling on the critical isochore, the asymptotic technique is applied to investigate the behavior of the near-critical fluids by studying the response to the thermal perturbation in the acoustic time scale. The full asymptotic governing equations are found in both non-viscous and viscous cases that describe the wave mode in bulk and diffusion mode in the boundary layer. The analytical solutions for the mass transport correlation demonstrate the direct bond between the wave mode and boundary conditions regardless of the motion of boundary layers in both heating and cooling cases. Such correlation shows the asymptotic behavior characterized by exponent −0.5 α - x L = −0.625. Thus, the thermal waves that cause cooling and heating, respectively, can coexist and propagate independently due to the one-to-one bonding with respective boundaries (wave sources). This bonding is still valid even if the enlarged viscosity hinders the fluid flow out of the boundary layers. The viscosity leads to the extra pressure work, whose asymptotic behavior follows the exponent −0.5 α - x b = −1.875, to overcome the viscous stress as the boundary layers expand.
