Abstract:The original Gisin's theorem states that all the entangled pure states of two qubits violate a single Bell's inequality, namely Clause-Horne-Shimony- Holt (CHSH) inequality. In this paper we show that all the entangled pure states for n particles also violate a single Bell's inequality, namely Hardy's inequality arising from Hardy's nonlocality test without inequality. Thus Gisin's theorem is proved in its most general form from which it follows that for pure states Bell's nonlocality and quantum entanglement are equivalent. In the sense of Gisin's theorem, Hardy's inequality can be regarded as a natural generalization of CHSH inequality.
Testing Multipartite Entanglement with Hardy's Nonlocality

Abstract:Multipartite quantum states may exhibit different types of quantum entanglement in that they cannot be converted into each other by local quantum operations only, and fully understanding mathematical structures of different types of multipartite entanglement is a very challenging task. In this paper, from the viewpoint of Hardy's nonlocality, we compare W and GHZ states and show a couple of crucial different behaviors between them. Particularly, by developing a geometric model for the Hardy's nonlocality problem of W states, we derive an upper bound for its maximal violation probability, which turns out to be strictly smaller than the corresponding probability of GHZ state. This gives us a new comparison between these two quantum states, and the result is also consistent with our intuition that GHZ states is more entangled. Furthermore, we generalize our approach to obtain an asymptotic characterization for general $N$-qubit W states, revealing that when $N$ goes up, the speed that the maximum violation probabilities decay is exponentially slower than that of general $N$-qubit GHZ states. We provide some numerical simulations to verify our theoretical results.

Abstract:Here, we present the most general framework for n-particle Hardy's paradoxes, which include Hardy's original one and Cereceda's extension as special cases. Remarkably, for any n≥3, we demonstrate that there always exist generalized paradoxes (with the success probability as high as 1/2^{n-1}) that are stronger than the previous ones in showing the conflict of quantum mechanics with local realism. An experimental proposal to observe the stronger paradox is also presented for the case of three qubits. Furthermore, from these paradoxes we can construct the most general Hardy's inequalities, which enable us to detect Bell's nonlocality for more quantum states.

Abstract:Recently, Chen et al introduced an alternative form of Hardy's paradox for $2$-settings and high-dimensional systems [Phy. Rev. A 88, 062116 (2013)], in which there is a great progress in improving the maximum probability of the nonlocal event. Here, we construct a general Hardy's paradox for multi-settings and high-dimensional systems, which (i) includes the paradox in [Phy. Rev. A 88, 062116 (2013)] as a special case, (ii) for spin-1/2 systems, is equivalent to the ladder proof of nonlocality without inequalities in [Phy. Rev. Lett. 13, 2755 (1997)], (iii) for spin-1 systems, increases the maximum probability of the nonlocal event by adding the number of settings, specially, with only 5-settings it can be improved to 0.40184, which is more than two times higher than 0.171, the maximal success probability to prove nonlocality in Adan's paradox [Phy. Rev. A 58, 1687 (1998)].

Abstract:Entanglement, the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) paradox and Bell’s failure of local-hiddenvariable (LHV) theories are three historically famous forms of “quantum nonlocality”. We give experimental criteria for these three forms of nonlocality in multi-particle systems, with the aim of better understanding the transition from microscopic to macroscopic nonlocality. We examine the nonlocality of N separated spin J systems. First, we obtain multipartite Bell inequalities that address the correlation between spin values measured at each site, and then we review spin squeezing inequalities that address the degree of reduction in the variance of collective spins. The latter have been particularly useful as a tool for investigating entanglement in Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC). We present solutions for two topical quantum states: multi-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, and the ground state of a two-well BEC.

Abstract:We develop criteria to detect three classes of nonlocality that have been shown by Wiseman et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 140402 (2007)] to be nonequivalent: entanglement, EPR steering, and the failure of local hidden-variable theories. We use the approach of Cavalcanti et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 210405 (2007)] for continuous variables to develop the nonlocality criteria for arbitrary spin observables defined on a discrete Hilbert space. The criteria thus apply to multisite qudits, i.e., systems of fixed dimension d, and take the form of inequalities. We find that the spin moment inequalities that test local hidden variables (Bell inequalities) can be violated for arbitrary d by optimized highly correlated nonmaximally entangled states provided the number of sites N is high enough. On the other hand, the spin inequalities for entanglement are violated and thus detect entanglement for such states, for arbitrary d and N, and with a violation that increases with <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://N.We" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> show that one of the moment entanglement inequalities can detect the entanglement of an arbitrary generalized multipartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state. Because they involve the natural observables for atomic systems, the relevant spin-operator correlations should be readily observable in trapped ultracold atomic gases and ion traps.

Wehrl Entropy and Entanglement Complexity of Quantum Spin Systems

Abstract:The Wehrl entropy of a quantum state is the entropy of the coherent-state distribution function (Husimi function), and is non-zero even for pure states. We investigate the Wehrl entropy for $N$ spin-1/2 particles with respect to SU(2)$^{\otimes N}$ coherent states (i.e., the direct products of spin coherent states of each particle). We focus on: (1) The statistical interpretation of this Wehrl entropy. (2) The relationship between the Wehrl entropy and quantum entanglement. For (1), despite the coherent states not forming a group of orthonormal bases, we prove that the Wehrl entropy can still be interpreted as the entropy of a probability distribution with clear physical meaning. For (2), we numerically calculate the Wehrl entropy of various entangled pure states with particle number $2\leq N\leq 20$. Our results show that for the large-$N$ ($N\gtrsim 10$) systems the Wehrl entropy of the highly chaotic entangled states are much larger than that of the regular ones (e.g., the GHZ state). These results, together with the fact that the Wehrl entropy is invariant under local unitary transformations, indicate that the Wehrl entropy can reflect the complexity of the quantum entanglement (entanglement complexity) of many-body pure states, as A. Sugita proposed directly from the definitions of the Husimi function and Wehrl entropy (Jour. Phys. A 36, 9081 (2003)). Furthermore, the Wehrl entropy per particle can serve as a quantitative description of this complexity. We further show that the many-body pure entangled states can be classified into three types, according to the behaviors of the Wehrl entropy per particle in the limit $N\rightarrow\infty$, with the states of each type having very different entanglement complexity.

However, when considering potential imperfections in experiments, like noisy entanglement source and low detection efficiency, the original Hardy’s paradox can only induce a rather small Hardy violation, and is difficult to reveal. To overcome this challenge, we have proposed a realigned Hardy’s paradox, which can dramatically improve the Hardy violation. Furthermore, we have generalized the realigned Hardy’s paradox to arbitrary even n dichotomic measurements. For n=2, 4 and 6 cases, the realigned Hardy’s paradox can achieve Hardy values approximate 0.4140, 0.7734 and 0.8875 respectively for qubit systems, compared with only 0.09 of the original Hardy’s paradox. Meanwhile, the structure of the realigned Hardy’s paradox is simpler and more robust, in the sense that there is only one Hardy condition. We anticipate that the realigned Hardy’s paradox can tolerate more experimental imperfections and help to stimulate more fascinating quantum information applications.

Abstract:A comprehensive treatment of the quantification of randomness certified device-independently by using the Hardy and Cabello-Liang-Li (CLL) nonlocality relations is provided in the two parties – two measurements per party – two outcomes per measurement (2-2-2) scenario. For the Hardy nonlocality, it is revealed that for a given amount of nonlocality signified by a particular non-zero value of the Hardy parameter, the amount of Hardy-certifiable randomness is not unique, unlike the way the amount of certifiable randomness is related to the CHSH nonlocality. This is because any specified non-maximal value of Hardy nonlocality parameter characterises a set of quantum extremal distributions. Then this leads to a range of certifiable amounts of randomness corresponding to a given Hardy parameter. On the other hand, for a given amount of CLL-nonlocality, the certifiable randomness is unique, similar to that for the CHSH nonlocality. Furthermore, the tightness of our analytical treatment evaluating the respective guaranteed bounds for the Hardy and CLL relations is demonstrated by their exact agreement with the Semi-Definite-Programming based computed bounds. Interestingly, the analytically evaluated maximum achievable bounds of both Hardy and CLL-certified randomness have been found to be realisable for non-maximal values of the Hardy and CLL nonlocality parameters. In particular, we have shown that even close to the maximum 2 bits of CLL-certified randomness can be realised from non-maximally entangled pure two-qubit states corresponding to small values of the CLL nonlocal parameter. This, therefore, clearly illustrates the quantitative incommensurability between randomness, nonlocality and entanglement.

Abstract:An effective two-spin density matrix (TSDM) for a pair of spin-1/2 degree of freedom, residing at a distance of R in a spinfull Fermi sea, can be obtained from the two-electron density matrix following the framework prescribed in Oh and Kim (Phys Rev A 69:054305, 2004. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.69.054305). We note that the single-spin density matrix (SSDM) obtained from this TSDM for generic spin-degenerate systems of free fermions is always pinned to the maximally mixed state, i.e. , independent of the distance R , while the TSDM confirms to the form for the set of maximally entangled mixed state (the so-called X-state) at finite R . The X-state reduces to a pure state (a singlet) in the limit, while it saturates to an X-state with the largest allowed value of von-Neumann entropy of as independent of the value of chemical potential. However, once an external magnetic field is applied to lift the spin-degeneracy, we find that the von-Neumann entropy of SSDM becomes a function of the distance R between the two spins. We also show that the von-Neumann entropy of TSDM in the limit becomes a function of the chemical potential and it saturates to only when the band in completely filled unlike the spin-degenerate case. Finally, we extend our study to include spin–orbit coupling and show that it does effect these asymptotic results. Our findings are in sharp contrast to previous works, which were based on continuum models owing to physics which stem from the lattice model.

Hardy inequalities for large fermionic systems

Abstract:Given $0<s<\frac d2$ with $s\leq 1$, we are interested in the large $N$-behavior of the optimal constant $\kappa_N$ in the Hardy inequality $\sum_{n=1}^N (-\Delta_n)^s \geq \kappa_N \sum_{n<m} |X_n-X_m|^{-2s}$, when restricted to antisymmetric functions. We show that $N^{1-\frac{2s}d}\kappa_N$ has a positive, finite limit given by a certain variational problem, thereby generalizing a result of Lieb and Yau related to the Chandrasekhar theory of gravitational collapse.

Abstract:We obtain an exact expression of the negativity for SU(2)-invariant bipartite spin-(1,s) states via the partial time reversal method. Studies of thermal states show that the threshold temperature of entanglement may be arbitrary high when s is sufficient large, indicating that the entanglement is very robust against temperature. Negativities in bilinear-biquadratic system are also considered.

Tripartite Entangled Pure States Are Tripartite Nonlocal

Abstract:Nonlocal correlations as revealed by the violations to Bell inequalities are incompatible with local models without any nonlocal correlations. However some tripartite entangled states, e.g., symmetric pure states, exhibit a stronger nonlocality even incompatible with hybrid local/nonlocal models allowing nonlocal correlations between any two parties. Here we propose a three-particle Hardy-type test without inequality, as illustrated by a gedanken experiment, that is failed by all non-signaling local models while is passed by all tripartite entangled asymmetric pure states. Our result implies that every tripartite entangled state, regardless of the dimensions of the underlying Hilbert spaces, passes a Hardy-type test and therefore is genuine tripartite nonlocal. Maximal success probability and a generalization to multipartite cases of our test are also presented.
