Abstract:A distributed fault-tolerant computing system based on the control area network(CAN) bus was implemented for a real-time control network.The system includes a soft bus that guarantees reliable data transmission,software voting that isolates the faults of computing units and sensors,data synchronization that ensures data consistency,and member relationship management that maintains the dynamic membership.The system is transparent to the control application program and integrates the typical functions of a fault-tolerant computing system,makes full use of the advantages of distributed systems and the CAN bus transmission characteristics,and provides fault-tolerant computing services for applications with guaranteed real-time performance.Tests show that the overall system performance is sufficient for use in real-time control systems.

Abstract:Distributed control system plays an important part in the application of satellite systems. However, there are integrated requirements (i.e., reliability, real-time capability, expandability, commonality, usability, economy and efficiency) for communication in these systems often used in hostile environments. The work presented here relates to a protocol named IRCBus (Industry High-Reliability Configurable Bus), which supports these requirements. And it also offers practical solutions. First of all, the protocol is formulated based on ISO/OSI (International Organization Standardization /Open System Interconnection) model and it includes four layers: Physical, DataLink, Network and Transport. And it proposes new ideas and improved methods in each layer draft and realization for these requirements. Then the high reliability is guaranteed by hot backup, three redundancy, bus isolation, retransmission law, data check and intrinsically safe explosion-proof; the real-time capability is realized by hardware system based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and software system; the expandability for bus functions and network size is considered during the whole design; the usability is solved by system management function, installing law and uninstalling law; the low cost are achieved as follows: adopting common cable as transmission media; utilizing existing chip RS485 chip with rational circuit; the efficiency is improved by taking advantage of 8-bit data and 9-bit data in UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) protocol and other features. Moreover, it analyzes the protocol from communication principle perspectives. Abstract:Control delay holds a significant impact on the quality of control (QoC) of a networked control system (NCS), degrading QoC and even causing system instability. With an objective of performance optimization through minimizing control delay, an event-driven approach to NCS design is proposed. The function block model defined in IEC61499 is extended and employed as the component for constructing event-driven NCS. Effective design principles integrating the scheduling methodology of pipelining are presented The NCS design for a DC servo system illustrates the proposed design principles. The impact of control period on QoC is visualized, and the optimal working range of control period is obtained. The QoC of NCS is measured by a general performance criterion. Simulation results for performance evaluation show that our approach leads to better QoC than the sequential system does.

Abstract:Aiming at the issues existing in centralized multipoint control unit (MCU), such as concentrated traffic load, limited scale, poor extensibility and faults tolerance and so on, a distributed MCU model is proposed. It utilizes an unicast and multicast data transmission strategy, so that not only can it transmit the media stream across sub networks, but also can decrease the data traffic dramatically. Some performances of distributed MCU, including the scale of group communication and fault tolerance and recovery, are analyzed in detail. The proposed model is already tested and applied to the real-time tele-teaching system named Smart-Real Class. It is shown that the model can support larger scale group communication, balance the communicative traffic among MCUs, and has the ability to tolerate and recover the fault of any MCU.

Abstract:Design of ultra-reliable real-time fault-tolerant multiprocessor systems is complexity and time-consumed. Previous systems mainly rely on special hardware and special operating systems. Current commercial real time operating systems can't satisfy the requirement of ultra-reliable systems, we present the approach to the design of fault-tolerant operating system, which based on COTS software and hardware. By introducing the redundant mechanism on multiprocessor systems into the COTS operating system's kernel, our fault-tolerant operating system completely supports the ultra-reliable real time application.

Abstract:Sensor faults and actuator faults inevitably exist in DC microgrids due to device aging, environmental changes, or cyber-attacks, which seriously degrades control performance. The existing resilient control methods for DC microgrids still bear some deficiencies, such as poor performance, limited applicability, and heavy tasks of calculation or communication. To overcome these problems and to realize the resilient control for DC microgrids with both sensor faults and actuator faults, this article has proposed a decentralized control scheme to guarantee the control resilience of bus voltage regulation and current sharing simultaneously. The proposed scheme contains a residual-based fault detection logic to locate the faulty sensor, an adaptive fault estimation observer to estimate the system state and faults simultaneously, and a finite-time fault-tolerant control law to guarantee resilience to faults. The stability proof based on Lyapunov analysis is given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Finally, a DC microgrid model is built in the hardware-in-the-loop testbed to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed decentralized resilient control scheme.

Abstract:An implementation of dual CPU(central processing unit) redundant control based on DeviceNet field bus was introduced.Dual CPU redundant design played an important role to improve the DCS(distributed computer system) reliability.In the implementation,two CPU units and some data I/O(input/output) units were connected through a DeviceNet field bus,and DeviceNet client/server programs running in the CPU units implemented the data synchronization between the two CPU units as well as the redundant control over data I/O units.When the main CPU unit encountered some serious errors and broke down,a fake DeviceNet group 2 only client program running on the backup CPU unit helped to fast switching,and therefore the backup CPU unit took over the control of the whole system in less than 8 milliseconds.This design was put into practice in the design for process control stations of a special DCS system and improved the system reliability.

Abstract:Space-memory-memory (SMM) Clos-network switch is an attractive alternative to an onboard switch due to its features of non-blocking, path diversity, distributed scheduling, and low implement cost. In this paper, in order to resist serious crosspoint faults induced by the harsh space radiation environment, we propose a fault-tolerant desynchronized static round-robin (FT-DSRR) cell dispatching algorithm for onboard SMM Clos-network switch. Different from previous schemes without fault tolerance, the cells in the proposed FT-DSRR can bypass the faulty paths and be evenly dispatched to the fault-free paths. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that, in the worst case, 100% throughput can be achieved under any admissible traffic when any (m-n) crosspoint faults occurring in an input/output module or in all central modules, where m and n are the number of inputs and outputs of input module, respectively. Simulation results indicate that, in the case of faults occurring randomly, FT-DSRR exhibits a good performance in terms of throughput and average cell delay under different traffic scenarios.

Abstract:This paper studies the robust fault tolerant control problem of distributed network control systems (DNCSs). DNCSs are defined as the networked control systems (NCSs) consist of several sub-systems. Each sub-system contains its own sensor, controller and actuator. This kind of systems widely exist in the real world, such as the urban water supply network, smart grid and so on. Three main aspects of DNSCs are investigated in this paper. Firstly, we consider the variable structure problem of DNCSs. Meanwhile, the network problems including time delays, packet-dropouts and quantization errors are considered. Finally, the actuator fault tolerant control problem due to the possible poor working environment is also studied. A series of two-mode-dependent controllers are proposed to stabilize such DNCSs and meet the robust closed-loop performance. By using the Lyapunov–Krasovskii (L-K) function, sufficient conditions on the existence of such controllers are presented in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs). A cone complementarity linearization (CCL) algorithm is given to solve proposed BMIs. Finally, a simulation example is exploited to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with distributed fault estimation and fault-tolerant control for interconnected systems. Based on the local and interconnected information relevant to neighbors, a distributed fault estimation observer (DFEO) is constructed in a fully distributed fashion for each subsystem. The generated estimation errors are decoupled with external disturbances such that the DFEO has an asymptotical estimation feature. Then, using the estimated state and fault, a fault compensation based distributed fault-tolerant control (DFTC) law is designed for each subsystem. Sufficient conditions in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are presented to guarantee the closed-loop system’s properties of stability and disturbance attenuation. Moreover, the proposed DFEOs and DFTC laws allow subsystems to be added or removed in a plug-and-play (PnP) fashion, which enhances the scalability of interconnected systems. Finally, the effectiveness and performance of the proposed method are demonstrated through simulations conducted on the power network system (PNS).

Abstract:According to the requirement of real-time performance and universality in the virtual simulation system, the communication card adopts reflective memory technology with the ability to build the reflective memory network. At the same time, according to the requirement of interaction between virtual model and physical model, the card has serial interface and the ability of interaction with reflective memory network through serial interface. The experiments proved that the multifunctional communication card’s bandwidth is up to 30 MB/s, its bit error rate is lower than 10−15, its time delay is up to the rank of the deep microsecond.

Abstract:As the core of cloud computing, the data center network (DCN) provides services and decision support for smart cities by providing powerful data storage and computing capabilities. As a server-centric DCN, the high scalability data center network architecture (HSDC) can cope with the rapid growth of data volume and provide an effective service foundation for smart cities. However, the rapid development of smart cities requires that DCNs can still operate reliably in the presence of faulty while expanding its scale. Therefore, it is very important to design reliable fault-tolerant communication algorithms in DCNs. This article investigates the fault-tolerant communication algorithm in HSDC. Initially, we propose an $O(n^{2})$ algorithm to establish $n$ disjoint paths between any pair of nodes in the $n$-dimension HSDC. Simulation experiments show that the disjoint paths generated by our algorithm in HSDC have a maximum length only 3 longer than the diameter, which guarantees a small communication delay in the worst case. In addition, we propose an $O(n)$ algorithm to establish a fault-tolerant unicast path between any pair of fault-free nodes in the $n$-dimension HSDC. Moreover, simulation experiments indicate that as the scale of HSDC increases, the algorithm performs well in both running efficiency and the length of constructed paths.

Abstract:This paper designs a new dual-duplex safety-critical computer system used in the rail transport system including I/O module,CPU module and switch module.In the I/O module,the dynamic circuit design can make it achieve safe input and output data.In the CPU module,this paper presents a synchronization vote program based on Ethernet communication.In the switch module,it implements seamless switch by loop control.It is shown through functional and safety test that the dual-duplex safety-critical computer system can meet the needs of computer platform with high reliability and security.
