Abstract:Oxidation coatings were produced on AM60B Mg alloy substrates using the Microarc oxidation(MAO) technique in order to improve the anti-corrosion property of Mg alloy.The morphology,structure and composition of oxidation coatings were investigated by SEM and XRD.The results show that there are two layers in microarc oxidation coating,of which outer layer is loose and porous,inner layer is dense in structure.The coating is mainly composed of MgO,Mg2SiO4 and little MgAl2O4.The content of Mg2SiO4 decreases while MgO increases from outer layer to inner layer.The surface microhardness of MAO coatings is 7～8 times higher than Mg alloy substrate.The potentiodynamic polarization test in 3.5wt% NaCl solution indicates that the oxidation coating enhanced evidently the anti-corrosion of the magnesium alloy.

Abstract:Single and multilayer of Al2O3 and TiO2 were fabricated on anodized aluminum by atomic layer deposition. The effect of processing parameters on pore sealing and anti-corrosion property was studied. It is concluded that the micropores on anodized aluminum could be sealed by atomic layer deposition oxide films through SEM and staining experiments. The anti-corrosive property is affected mainly by the film thickness and process temperature. The acidic drip and salt spray test shows that the anti-corrosion property is enhanced as the film thickness increase. With the similar thickness, Al2O3/TiO2 multilayer film has the best anti-corrosion property, while the single Al2O3 layer appears the poorest. The complementary roles between two basic materials result in the enhanced application property.

Abstract:This paper studied a new technique for gathering coloration and occlusion to one step on the surface of porcelain anodic oxidation of aluminium alloy. A true colorful and nice-looking coating with fast coloration surface was found after porcelain anodic oxidation by the test of wear resistance, anticorrosion and weather resistance about the porcelain anodic oxidation coating of aluminium alloy. And also the coating with good performance of wear resistance, anticorrosion and weather resistance was found.

Abstract:Anodic oxidation coatings were made on LY12 aluminum alloys by anodic oxidation in sulfurix acid.Then,γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(γ-GPTMS)/tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)hybrid films were prepared on the coatings by sol-gel method.The results of polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurements indicated that the passive current density of the aluminum alloy electrode with anodic oxidized films increased with the increase of immersion time.However,the passive current density was about 2 orders of magnitude smaller than that of aluminum substrate.After sealed by silane hybrid sol,the anti-corrosion performance of anodic oxidized films increased obviously,the passive current densities of anodic polarization of the aluminum alloy electrode with anodic oxidized films still maintained at 10~3 A/cm~2 and the low frequency impedance values of the electrode were about 10~6Ωafter immersed for 822 h.The scanning electron microscopy(SEM)showed that the anodic oxidation coatings presented porous morphology,which is favorable for increasing the adhesion of silane hybrid films to metal substrate and reinforcing the corrosion resistance of anodic oxidized aluminum alloy electrode obviously.

Abstract:The anodization film was prepared by controlled mode of constant-voltage on Al-Li alloy surface in H2SO4 solution. The effects of additives on the morphology,hardness and corrosion resistance of the film were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)and electrochemical corrosion testing method. The results show that the hardness of the film is improved remarkably when oxalate is added to the electrolyte solution; and the anodization film formed on Al-Li alloy surface exhibits the best corrosion resistance in the mass fraction of 3.5%NaCl solution when oxalate and NiSO4 are added.

Abstract:As the most representative valve metal, aluminum, magnesium and titanium based materials have many characteristics such as high specific strength, good processing performance and excellent biocompatibility. They are widely used in aerospace, automotive, electronic communication, medical and other major industries. However, the tribological behavior of aluminum, magnesium and titanium based materials is generally poor. This paper reviews the theoretical basis and application research status of micro-arc oxidation technology to improve the tribological behavior of aluminum, magnesium and titanium based materials. The effects of electrolyte systems, electrical parameters and micro-arc oxidation time on the morphology, composition, microstructure and tribological behavior of micro-arc oxidation coatings are summarized. The direct composite technology and secondary composite technology of micro-arc oxidation are introduced. Finally, the future application and development are prospected.

Abstract:In this study, a Ti/Zr/V conversion coating (TZVCC) was deposited on the surface of aluminum alloy 6063 (AA6063) as an alternative of the chromate conversion coating (CCC). Both the TZVCC treated AA6063 (TZVCC/AA6063) and CCC treated AA6063 (CCC/AA6063) were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscope (AFM) and contact angle measuring device. The anti-corrosion performance of the TZVCC/AA6063 and CCC/AA6063 was evaluated by electrochemical measurements and neutral salt spray tests. It showed that both the surface roughness and surface free energy of the M6063 were significantly increased after TZVCC treatment. The anti-corrosion performance of TZVCC/AA6063 was superior to that of CCC/AA6063. In addition, the effects of the TZVCC and CCC on the adhesion properties and anti-corrosion performance of epoxy coating applied on samples were examined by pull-off tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The dry, wet and recovery adhesive strengths of the epoxy coating on TZVCC treated samples (epoxy coated TZVCC/AA6063) were very close to those of epoxy coating on CCC treated ones (epoxy coated CCC/AA6063). The epoxy coated TZVCC/AA6063 showed better corrosion resistance than the epoxy coated CCC/AA6063 and epoxy coated AA6063. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Abstract Microstructures of AA5252 aluminum alloy sheets from surface to the center were observed by use of scanning electron microscope with electron backscatter detector assembly, and treated by anodic oxidation. Results showed that changes of the grain structures and textures of the AA5252 alloy sheets occur from the surface to the center layers. The anodic oxidation surface quality of the AA5252 aluminum alloy is closely related to the area ratio and distribution uniformity of Cube texture.

Abstract:Smooth and continuous aluminum coatings on stainless steel surface was prepared by electroplating aluminum and hot dip aluminizing.Oxidation behavior of the aluminum coatings at high temperatures was investigated.Morphology and composition of the coatings after oxidation were studied by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）,EDS analysis and X-ray diffraction（XRD）.Surface hardness and corrosion resistance of the oxidized coatings were examined.The results show that aluminum coatings with high stability and quality can be achieved by electroplating aluminum and then hot dip aluminizing.A continuous and dense Al2O3 film in the coatings is obtained after oxidation at 900 ℃ for 20 h,which greatly improves surface hardness and corrosion resistance of the coatings.

Abstract:Micro arc oxidation( MAO) is a novel technique to deposit ceramic coatings on the surface of valve metals such as Al,Mg,Ti and their alloys. The oxide coatings prepared by this technique have a dense,uniform structure and high adhesion,which can greatly improve the performance of corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the Al alloy. The recent progress of MAO technique on aluminum alloy at home and abroad is reviewed. The mechanism,process,characteristics and factors influencing the technique of micro arc oxidation are summarized. Finally,the present problems and the possible development direction of this technique are also addressed.
Optimization of Tribological Properties and Corrosion Resistance of MAO Coatings on LY12 Aluminum Alloy by Co-Doping with Graphite Particles and in Situ Formation of Zinc Phosphate

Abstract:Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coatings can enhance the wear and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys, but the high coefficient of friction and surface pores can lead to failure in the field. In this study, zinc acetate and graphite particles are introduced to the electrolyte to form corrosion-resistant and lubricating MAO coatings on the LY12 aluminum alloy. Zinc phosphate nanocrystals formed in situ are uniformly distributed in the amorphous coating, while the extrinsic graphite is mainly located in the amorphous structure. Compared to the aluminum alloy substrate, the friction coefficient of the optimal MAO coating decreases to similar to 0.2, and the wear rate decreases by nearly 10 times. Zinc phosphate nanocrystals generated in situ in the coatings release Zn2+ during corrosion attack to cover the vulnerable weak corrosion areas around the pores. The corrosion resistance is improved significantly, as manifested by the increase of the corrosion potential from -1.290 V to -0.811 V and the decrease of the corrosion current density from 3.172 x 10(-6) A cm(-2) to 4.320 x 10(-10) A cm(-2). The co-doped MAO coatings have better wear and corrosion resistance and are more suitable than the LY12 alloy in many engineering applications.

Abstract:Electroless nickel plating was taken on high-strength aluminum alloy,and the micrograph of coating was observed and heat-resistant property was tested.The results show that good adhesion and smooth Ni-P coating were attained on the matrix;the hardness increased with the rising of heat treatment temperature and atom diffusion was taken obviously at 400℃ on the interface;the matrix can be well protected by coating under high temperature,especially on the condition of instantaneous high temperature.

Abstract:In this paper, aluminum coatings were prepared on a steel substrate by thermal spraying, and the corrosion morphology and corrosion resistance of the coating were investigated by salt spray and immersion tests. The results showed that after three months of salt spray tests, the coating still exhibited a surface morphology without significant damage and had good damage tolerance. Further effective protection of the substrate can be achieved by spraying the coating surface with paint. After three months of immersion test, the corrosion rate of samples with thicker coatings was located between 0.002 mm/y and 0.005 mm/y, and only a small amount of corrosion products was observed on the coating surface. The coated samples after salt spray and immersion tests maintained sufficient adhesion (17.07 MPa and 19.25 MPa), and the surface aluminum coating was highly reliable for protection of the steel substrate. In general, the reliability of the coating can be further improved by painting the surface of the thicker Al coating. This provides more ideas for the protection of transmission and transformation equipment.

Abstract:Different anodized coatings are prepared on the surface of 2024 aluminum alloy from different solutions by pulse anodizing to improve corrosion resistance and hardness. The thickness, roughness, structure, hardness, surface morphology, and corrosion resistance of different anodized coatings are studied. It is found that the anodized coating is composed of a porous layer on the surface and a nonporous barrier layer inside, showing the structure of [Formula: see text]-Al 2 O 3 and [Formula: see text]-Al 2 O 3 . The anodized coating prepared from sulfuric acid solution mixed with oxalic acid and glycerol has a larger thickness and higher hardness. The surface morphology of the anodized coatings is porous. The thickness of the anodized coating prepared from oxalic acid solution is small and the pore distribution is not uniform. However, the anodized coating obtained from sulfuric acid solution mixed with oxalic acid and glycerol has the smallest average pore size of 6.38[Formula: see text]nm and ordered pore distribution, resulting in the best corrosion resistance.

Abstract:Abstract Anodized oxide technology is a traditional surface treatment method used in the material engineering field to enhance the friction, anti-icing, anti-corrosion, and insulation properties of Al-based samples. Considering the anti-icing and insulation performance, anodized oxide technology has great application prospects in overhead transmission lines. In this study, the preparation process of Aluminum (Al) flat plates and Aluminum Cable Steel-Reinforce (ACSR) was explored by using anodizing technology to obtain superhydrophobic properties. Moreover, as the significant performance in the application of transmission lines, the mechanical performance (tensile strength) of Al conductors was evaluated to study the impact of anodized oxidation technology. The results show that anodized oxide technology can improve the tensile strength of aluminum clad steel bars and aluminum-stranded wires in ACSRs. In addition, the hydrophobicity and anti-icing performance of anodized wires can demonstrate potential application prospects in the field of anti-icing.
Influence on surface performance of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy processed with oxidising paste

Abstract:Oxidising paste was prepared for in-situ local oxidation treatment of coatings on aluminum alloy skin surface and its film-forming performance on 2024-T3 aluminum alloy was studied.Morphology and chemical composition,corrosion resistance,and adhesive performance of the oxidation film were investigated by SEM,EDS,stereomicroscope,drop test,electrochemistry test,contact angle and tension loading method.The results show that oxidation film can be obtained rapidly on aluminum alloy surface after treated by oxidising paste,and the film has mieroscopic pore structure,including Al,F,Cr,O,etc.Corrosion resistance of the film is similar to that gained by Alodine solution.Compared to the bare sample,corrosion potential increases from-0.898 V to-0.880 V,corrosion current density decreases from 2.582 × 10-5 A/cm2 to 3.334 × 10 7 A/cm2,and impedance improves from 1.556 × 10s Ω/cm2 to 1.347 × 105 Ω/cm2.Surface free energy and the work of adhesion rise from 32.7 mJ/cm2 and 36.3 mJ to 55.7 mJ/cm2 and 109.7 mJ,respectively.Strength properties of adhesive in shear is promoted from 11.7 MPa to 15.0 MPa.The results indicate that morphology and chemical composition of the oxidation film can enhance interface bonding strength and adhesive performance.

Abstract:Aluminum alloys are widely used in the aerospace and transportation industries, but the corrosion resistance is insufficient in long-term service especially in the high salinity environment. A ceramic coating composed of ZnO nanoparticles is demonstrated to significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the Al alloys. Owing to the similar chemical activity of Zn and Al, ZnO particles fuse into Al2O3 in the micro-arc during plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) rendering the coating compactness. The formation mechanism of the PEO coating is investigated and discussed. The corrosion current of the ZnO modified PEO coating is 4 orders of magnitude less than that of the LY12 substrate. Immersion tests performed in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride show that incorporation of ZnO prevents destruction and dissolution of the PEO coating in the high salinity environment.
