Abstract:Several aromatic aldehydes and sodium bisulfite were mixed to prepare hydroxyl sulfonates,which were added to o-phenylenediamine or substituted o-phenylenediamine in refluxing ethanol to afford 2-substi-tuted benzimidazoles through oxidation by air directly.One of the fifteen synthesized compounds,2-(4-chlorophyenyl)-6-methoxyl-1H-benzimidazole has not been reported.All the compounds were identified by IR,1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis.The method is simple,mild,eco-friendly and requires no catalyst.

Abstract:Three kinds of liquid crystalline aromatic azomethine modifiers were synthesized with high yield, and the modification of bismaleimide resin (BMI) with them was studied by scanning electron microscope, polarizing optical microscope, thermogravimetric analyzer, differential scanning calorimetry, and rheolometry. Blends cured at the temperature of liquid crystalline phase were found to have oriented liquid crystal-rich phase and improved mechanical properties. The addition of o,o'-diallyl bisphenol A in the blends of BMI decreases thermal properties but shows little effect on phase structures. (c) 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:2-Trifluoromethyl and 2-difluoromethyl substituted benzimidazole, benzoxazole and benzothiazole derivatives were efficiently prepared through a one-pot reaction of trifluoroacetic acid and difluoroacetic acid, respectively, with commercially available o-phenylenediamines, 2-aminophenols, and 2-aminobenzenethiols in good to excellent yields. Subsequential bromination of 2-difluoromethyl groups by photolysis with NBS led to the formation of bromodifluoromethyl benzo-1,3-diazoles which may be utilized to prepare the new generation of gem-difluoromethylene linked identical or non-identical twin molecules for drug synthesis.

Abstract:A new practical method for the synthesis of a non-cross-linked polystyrene supported 2-phenylimino-2-oxazolidine chiral auxiliary is reported. This method started from the same material as in a previous synthesis, N-Boc-L-tyrosine ethyl ester, but the overall yield was 42.5%, which was higher than the copolymerisation method.

Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:A new efficient synthesis of polysubstituted benzo[d]pyrido[1′,2':1,2]imidazo[4,5-f][1,3]diazepines and pyrido[2′,1':2,3]imidazo[1,5-c]quinazolin-7-ium salts via sequential Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé/Staudinger/aza-Wittig/carbodiimide-mediated annulation has been developed. The three-component Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé reactions of 2-azidobenzaldehydes 1 , isocyanides 2 , and 2-aminopyridines 3 produced the azide intermediates 4 , which were treated sequentially with triphenylphosphine and isocyanates to give polysubstituted benzo[d]pyrido[1′,2':1,2]imidazo[4,5-f][1,3]diazepines and pyrido[2′,1':2,3]imidazo[1,5-c]quinazolin-7-ium chlorides in good yields.

Abstract:A series of co-polybenzimidazoles were prepared via the condensation polymerization of 1,4-bis(4- carboxyphenoxy) benzene, 4,4'-dicarboxydiphenyl ether and 3,3'-diaminobenzidine in phosphorus pentoxide/methanesulfonic acid in a mass ratio of 1: 10 by weight reaction medium. The structures of co-polybenzimidazoles were confirmed by FTIR and H-1 NMR, and they show good solubility in polar solvents such as DMSO, DMAc and NMP, high thermal stability, good film forming ability and excellent mechanical properties.

Abstract:In this study, two novel imide-functionalized fluorinated benzoxazines, N,N′-bis( N-phenylacetylene-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl)-(4,4′-hexafluoroisopropylidene)bisphthalimide (6FIBZ-apa) and N,N′-bis( N-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl)-(4,4′-hexafluoroisopropylidene)bisphthalimide (6FIBZ-a), were successfully synthesized. The structures of the benzoxazines were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies. The novel benzoxazines were easily dissolved in common organic solvents. The differential scanning calorimetric curve of 6FIBZ-apa showed only a single exothermic peak since oxazine ring-opening and acetylene addition polymerization occurred simultaneously in the same temperature range. The introduction of rigid and thermally stable imide moiety led to rigid molecular structure, thus resulting in an increase in the glass transition temperature and improvement in thermal stability. The thermal properties were further improved significantly by the incorporation of cross-linkable acetylene groups to increase the cross-linking density as evidenced by thermogravimetric analysis.

Abstract:A convenient synthesis of bisamide from aldehyde and amide with BF3 etherate as catalyst was reported. Both aryl and aliphatic bisamides could be prepared with this procedure in high yield at room temperature and the catalyst loading as low as 0.5 mol % was achieved. Fine-tuned solvent was utilized for both rapid conversion and simple isolation. Two CB2 receptor inverse agonists were synthesized with this protocol in high yield. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:Bis(hydroxyethyl) ether of bisphenol A was generally used in the field of resin synthesis as a monomer for synthetic resin and a modifier for high molecular polymers. There are two main synthetic methods for bis(hydroxyethyl) ether of bisphenol A: the hydroxyethylation of bisphenol A and chemical recycling of polycarbonate. The former was hydroxyethylation of bisphenol A by ethylene oxide or ethylene chlorohydrin or ethylene carbonate as hydroxyethylation agent; and the latter was synthesized by chemical recycling of bisphenol A polycarbonate plastic waste.

Abstract:A highly efficient atom-economic method for the preparation of chiral 3,3'-bis(indolyl) methanes (3,3'-BIMs) was developed. A chiral phosphoric acid (1 mol%) was found to promote the formation of structurally divers BIMs with quaternary stereogenic carbon centers in excellent yields with excellent enantioselectivities. Control experiments indicated that the simultaneous formation of two hydrogen bonds between the catalyst and the substrate was the key factor to obtain a good stereoselective outcome.

Abstract:Bisphenol compounds play a pivotal role as essential diol monomers in the synthesis of numerous engineering plastics. However, conventional methods for their preparation often involve the use of concentrated inorganic acids, leading to significant environmental pollution and equipment corrosion. Herein, we developed a strong inorganic acid-free synergistic catalytic system consisting of a Lewis–Brønsted acid catalyst composed of ZnCl2 and 3-mercaptopropionic acid. This system enabled the highly efficient preparation of bisphenol compounds through the Friedel–Crafts alkylation reaction of ketones with phenols or phenoxyethanol. The highest selectivity of 9,9-bis[4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl]fluorene can reach 96.4% at 110 °C for 2 h, which was higher than that of the traditional sulfuric acid method with a selectivity of 85.0%. A mechanistic study revealed that the carbonyl group of the ketone was first activated by the coordination ability of Zn2+ from the Lewis acid, which facilitated the subsequent protonation process initiated by the acidic site of Brønsted acid.

Abstract:Benzoxazine resin exhibits excellent properties and is widely used in many fields. Herein, the synthesis of a novel compound, the bis(2,4-dihydro-2 H-3-(4- N-maleimido)phenyl-1,3-benzoxazinyl)biphenyl (BMIPBB), has been reported, which was synthesized by reacting N-(4-aminophenyl)maleimide (APMI), formaldehyde, and 4,4’-dihydroxybiphenyl. 1,3,5-three(4-(maleimido)phenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TMIPT) was formed as an intermediate during the reaction. The proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR) and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy experiments were conducted to determine the structure of BMIPBB. BMIPBB was obtained as a reddish-brown solid in 40.1% yield. The thermal properties of BMIPBB were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. Analysis of the DSC curves revealed that the broad peak representing the release of curing reaction heat appeared in the temperature range of 140–330°C. The peak temperature was 242.59°C and the heat of the reaction was 393.82 J/g, indicating that the rate of the curing reaction was low and the heat of the reaction was high. Analysis of the TGA results revealed that the weight loss rate was 5% at 110°C. The monomer exhibited a significant weight loss in the range of 320–500°C. The compound lost 50% of its weight at a temperature of 427°C.

Abstract:Two new bio‐benzoxazine monomers containing imide or amide group have been synthesized, which suggests the possiblity for obtaining high‐performance thermosets from renwable resources. Two novel bio‐based benzoxazine monomers containing imide or amide group (HPIDD‐fa and HPBA‐fa) were synthesized from raw materials of benzoyl chloride/phthalic anhydride, tyramine, furfurylamine and paraformaldehyde via a two‐step reaction. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies were performed to characterize the structures of the benzoxazine monomers. The curing behavior was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and in situ FT‐IR, and the DSC results indicate that the peak curing temperatures of HPIDD‐fa and HPBA‐fa are centered at 248.5 and 230.1°C, respectively. In addition, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) suggests that the newly developed bio‐based benzoxazine‐derived polybenzoxazines present excellent thermal stability with Td10 (temperature at 10% weight loss) of 385 and 368°C for poly(HPIDD‐fa) and poly(HPBA‐fa), respectively. The current investigation suggests that our newly obtained bio‐based thermosetting resins are promising materials for high‐tech applications.

Abstract:ABSTRACTWe report our work for preparing cross‐linked polyimide via a series of imide functional benzoxazine resins as precursors. The structures of synthesized monomers have been confirmed by 1H NMR and FT‐IR. Among this class of benzoxazine monomers, the ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine resins show useful features both in the synthesis of benzoxazine monomers and the properties of the corresponding thermosets. For the cross‐linked polyimides based on ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine, an additional route is adopted to form a more thermally stable cross‐linked polybenzoxazole with the release of carbon dioxide. The ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine resins show the possibility to form high performance and even super high performance thermosets with low cost and easy processability. Abstract:A novel zinc-catalyzed hypervalent iodine mediated cascade transformation of anilines and aldehydes to benzimidazoles was developed. A series of 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles were achieved with aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes. In this procedure, initial condensation of anilines with aldehydes afforded N-arylimine intermediates which underwent C-H/C-H amination/annulation to generate the desired products in moderate to excellent yields. The reaction features an extremely simple reaction system, and good functional group toleration with water as the only byproduct.

Abstract:In this study, 2-(aminomethyl)phenol and its derivatives, the reactants for 2-substituted 1,3-benzoxazines, are synthesized by HCl hydrolysis from the typical benzoxazines. The phenol/aniline-based mono-oxazine benzoxazine, PH-a, and the bisphenol A/aniline-based bis-oxazine benzoxazine, BA-a, are used as examples to demonstrate the feasibility of this new approach. Their chemical structures are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, and are further verified by elementary analysis. Their thermal properties are studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These two 2-(aminomethyl) phenolic derivatives are reacted with paraformaldehyde to close the oxazine rings. A benzoxazine with a phenyl substituent at the 2-position of the oxazine ring is obtained from the 2-((phenylamino)methyl)phenol (hPH-a) and benzaldehyde. All these results highlight the success of the HCl hydrolysis and the formation of stable intermediates, namely 2-(aminomethyl) phenolic derivatives, from readily available benzoxazine monomers. This further demonstrates the feasibility of using these intermediates as reactants for a novel benzoxazine synthesis.
