Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted chalcogenophenes is reported. This method involves two steps of reactions via one-pot approach by employing commercially available and cost-effective alkynes and element chalcogen. Further, by using LiNH2 as the promoter and DMSO/EtOH as the solvent, Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling-cycloaddition processes are dramatically enhanced that a diverse range of chalcogenophenes can be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Controlled experiments show that trisulfur radical anion (S3 & sdot;-) is the key intermediate and DMSO/EtOH serves as the hydrogen source, while alcohol may facilitate the transition state. The mild and highly efficient constructions of 2,5-disubstitued thiophenes, selenophenes and tellurophenes are achieved by using a one-pot, two-step protocol that combine Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling with LiNH2-mediated cycloaddition. And the DMSO/EtOH mixture solvent is found to short the reaction time and improve the reaction yield by promoting the production of S3 & sdot;- and stabilizing the transition state.image

Abstract:Organochalcogen compounds are prevalent in numerous natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, biological molecules and synthetic intermediates. Direct chalcogenation of C-H bonds has evolved as a step- and atom-economical method for the synthesis of chalcogen-bearing compounds. Nevertheless, direct C-H chalcogenation severely lags behind C-C, C-N and C-O bond formations. Moreover, compared with the C-H monochalcogenation, reports of selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of C-H bonds are relatively scarce. The past decade has witnessed significant advancements in selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of various C(sp(2))-H and C(sp(3))-H bonds via transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated, photocatalytic, electrochemical or metal-free approaches. In light of the significance of both mono- and dichalcogen-containing compounds in various fields of chemical science and the critical issue of chemoselectivity in organic synthesis, the present review systematically summarizes the advances in these research fields, with a special focus on elucidating scopes and mechanistic aspects. Moreover, the synthetic limitations, applications of some of these processes, the current challenges and our own perspectives on these highly active research fields are also discussed. Based on the substrate types and C-H bonds being chalcogenated, the present review is organized into four sections: (1) transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated chelation-assisted selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of (hetero)arenes; (2) directing group-free selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of electron-rich (hetero)arenes; (3) C(sp(3))-H dichalcogenation; (4) dichalcogenation of both C(sp(2))-H and C(sp(3))-H bonds. We believe the present review will serve as an invaluable resource for future innovations and drug discovery.

Abstract:Cyclopentadienyl and substituted cyclopentadienyl ligands are observed in a wide range of organometallic complexes. In addition to serving as ancillary ligands, these ligands have come into their own as intermediates in organometallic reactions, and shown many unique reaction modes involving ring C-H, C-C and C=C bond cleavages. This feature article summarizes the progressive development of cyclopentadienyl-based reactions of metallocene complexes of transition metals and rare-earth metals, with the aim of further developing the fundamental modes of reactivity of such systems together with their synthetic applications.

Abstract:The past decade has witnessed significant advancements in the highly selective dichalcogenation (chalcogen = S, Se, Te) reactions of unsaturated substrates for the synthesis of dichalcogen compounds. The present review summarizes the recent advances in the disulfenylation, diselenation, mixed dichalcogenation, thiosulfonylation, selenosulfonylation, disulfonylation and sulfinylsulfonylation reactions of unsaturated compounds via double functionalization, with special emphasis on elucidating detailed mechanisms. Moreover, this review also includes the ring-closing dichalcogenation and thio(seleno)sulfonylation of S/Se-bearing unsaturated compounds for the synthesis of a variety of chalcogenated S- or Se-heterocycles. The scopes, limitations and existing problems of some reactions are also dicussed. The review aims to give researchers a good understanding of the dichalcogenation reactions and inspire future innovations in this rapidly expanding field.

Abstract:A copper‐mediated C(sp2)‒H chalcogenation of heterocycles with readily available dichalcogenide, benzeneselenol and thiol is described. This protocol demonstrates scalability, good chemo‐ and regio‐selectivity, as well as broad functional group tolerance, which overall provides an accessible method to valuable aryl chalcogenides. The chalcogenated picolinamide products could be further transformed into selenoxanthones and thioxanthone scaffolds through intramolecular cyclization via a semi‐one pot process.

Abstract:A rhodium-catalyzed dehydrogenation protocol for the conversion of 3,5-diarylcyclopentenones to the corresponding 2,4-diarylcyclopentadienones has been developed. With this protocol, analogues of the cytotoxic agent chamaecypanone C have been synthesized via Diels-Alder cycloaddition between the cyclopentadienones and in situ-generated o-quinols. Biological evaluation of these analogues revealed a compound with higher activity as a microtubule inhibitor and cytotoxic agent in comparison with the parent structure.

Abstract:The transformations of cyclopropenes have attracted the attention of organic chemists for decades. As readily accessible strained carbocycles, cyclopropenes show a diverse range of reactivities. This feature article focuses on the developments of cyclopropenes from 2016 until the end of 2019, including reactions through vinylmetal carbenes, reactions through metal complex insertion, addition reactions with 1,3-dipole, radical reactions of cyclopropenes, and reactions of highly reactive in situ generated cyclopropenes. In addition, several new synthetic methods and applications of cyclopropenes are also disclosed in this paper.

Abstract:Enantioenriched small carbocycles are key structures in numerous natural products and pharmaceutically important molecules as well as vital intermediates in organic synthesis. Although various catalytic approaches for construction of such molecules from acyclic precursors have been developed, direct enantioselective functionalization of preformed three-membered and four-membered rings represents the most straightforward and modular strategy, enabling rapid and diversified synthesis of enantioenriched cyclopropanes and cyclobutanes from a single set of starting materials without the need of incorporation of specific functional groups. In this Featured Article, we have summarized the recent advances in catalytic enantioselective functionalization of cyclopropenes and cyclobutenes through carbometallation. The plausible mechanisms of such reactions and future of this field are also discussed.

Abstract:A catalytic highly regioselective, diastereoselective, and enantioselective cyclopropanation of electron-deficient dienes and bromides via direct sulfide organocatalysis is reported. A variety of vinylcyclopropanes featuring a quaternary chiral center were synthesized in up to 99% yield and up to 98:2 enantiomeric ratio (er). These products could be facilely transformed to various interesting molecules with great structural diversity.

Abstract:The cobalt(II) complex of a new D(2)-symmetric chiral porphyrin 3,5-diMes-ChenPhyrin, [Co(P2)], has been shown to be a highly effective chiral metalloradical catalyst for enantioselective cyclopropenation of alkynes with acceptor/acceptor-substituted diazo reagents, such as α-cyanodiazoacetamides and α-cyanodiazoacetates. The [Co(P2)]-mediated metalloradical cyclopropenation is suitable to a wide range of terminal aromatic and related conjugated alkynes with varied steric and electronic properties, providing the corresponding trisubstituted cyclopropenes in high yields with excellent enantiocontrol of the all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers. In addition to mild reaction conditions, the Co(II)-based metalloradical catalysis for cyclopropenation features a high degree of functional group tolerance.

Abstract:Organosulfur compounds, especially sulfur ylides and sulfonium salts, offer extraordinary potential in organic chemistry due to their distinctive structural properties and reactivities. In the past five years, tremendous progress of sulfur ylide and sulfonium salt chemistry has been made with the advent of photoredox catalysis. Increasing unprecedented reactivities and reactions of organosulfur compounds have been unearthed, which are distinguished from their conventional ionic reactivity. This review highlights the recent advances in alkylation procedures with sulfur ylides, sulfoxonium ylides, sulfonium salts and thianthrenium salts driven by photocatalysis—with emphases on reactions, mechanisms, and applications—aiming to provide guidance for the potential of sulfur-containing species in a wide range of reactions and to inspire further progress in organosulfur chemistry.

Abstract:Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit promising application prospects in the domains of electronic devices, optoelectronic devices and spintronic devices due to their distinctive energy band structures and spin-orbit coupling properties. Cr-based chalcogenides with narrow or even zero bandgap, covering from semiconductors to metallic materials, have considerable potential for wide-band photodetection and two-dimensional magnetism. Currently, the preparation of 2D CrX n (X = S, Se, Te) nanosheets primarily relies on chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and molecule beam epitaxy (MBE), which enable the production of high-quality large-area materials. This review article focuses on recent progress of 2D Cr-based chalcogenides, including unique crystal structure of the CrX n system, phase-controlled synthesis, and heterojunction construction. Furthermore, a detailed introduction of room-temperature ferromagnetism and electrical/optoelectronic properties of 2D CrX n is presented. Ultimately, this paper summarizes the challenges associated with utilizing 2D Cr-based chalcogenides in preparation strategies, optoelectronics devices, and spintronic devices while providing further insights.

Abstract:A mini review focused on the chemistry of selenosulfones reported since 2019 is here presented. Initially, methods aimed to the preparation of such moiety are discussed. Successively 1,2‐, 1,3‐, 1,4‐ and 1,7‐addition reactions to C‐C single and multiple bonds are illustrated. The third chapter deals with C‐H functionalizations while the fourth one shows the reactions with aryl diazonium salts or its precursors. The radical coupling with redox active reagents, is the subject of section five. Selenosulfones challenged in nucleophilic substitutions and in reactions with phosphorus‐containing compounds are shown in chapter six and seven followed by the conclusions and perspectives section.
