Abstract:With wide-spread application of power electronic converters in high power systems, there has been a growing interest in system reliability analysis and fault-tolerant capabilities. This paper presents a comprehensive review of conventional fault-tolerant techniques regarding power electronic converters in case of power semiconductor device failures. These techniques can be classified into four categories based on the type of hardware redundancy unit: switch-level, leg-level, module-level, and system-level. Also, various fault-tolerant methods are assessed according to cost, complexity, performance, etc. The intent of this review is to provide a detailed picture regarding the current landscape of research in power electronic fault-handling mechanisms.

Abstract:The status of power electronics for Fuel Cell (FC) was introduced mainly. Firstly, the static and dynamic characteristic of FC was introduced. Many architectures and topologies were discussed. Then power management technology including the interface of storage components and control strategy was analyzed in detail. The advantages and disadvantages were summarized. Besides, low frequency current ripple is harmful for FC, thus three normal low frequency current ripple reduction techniques were compared. Finally, the development trend of FC generation technology was put forward.

Abstract:The application of soft-switching techniques is an important way to reduce switching losses of DC/DC converter. Aiming at the requirement of electric vehicles application, major soft-switching techniques for DC/DC converters are reviewed. Performance and design limitations are discussed. A comparison of soft-switching techniques used in high power converters of electric vehicles is presented. Through analyzing the state-of-art and existing deficiency of soft-switching techniques for DC/DC converters, it is concluded that power level upgrading, soft-switching range extending and auxiliary network simplification should be focused in the future.

Abstract:Against the backdrop of global energy shortages and increasingly severe environmental pollution, renewable energy is gradually becoming a significant direction for future energy development. Power electronics converters, as the core technology for energy conversion and control, play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and stability of renewable energy systems. This paper explores the basic principles and functions of power electronics converters and their specific applications in photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, and energy storage systems. Additionally, it analyzes the current innovations in high-efficiency energy conversion, multilevel conversion technology, and the application of new materials and devices. By studying these technologies, the aim is to promote the widespread application of power electronics converters in renewable energy systems and provide theoretical and technical support for achieving sustainable energy development.

Abstract:A comprehensive review of power electronics technology that includes a discussion of power semiconductor devices, topologies of different classes of converters, and some selected applications is given. The modern power semiconductor devices that appeared in the 1980s, i.e., IGBTs, SITs, SITHs, and MCTs, are emphasized. Tables comparing the numerical ratings of the devices are included. Although modern converters are emphasized, phase-controlled converters, which are now very commonly used, are included for completeness. Tables comparing the features of AC-AC converters, particularly for AC drive applications are given. A few selected applications indicate in general the complexity of power electronics systems.<>

Abstract:The energy paradigms in many countries (e.g. Germany and Denmark) have experienced a significant change from fossil-based resources to clean renewables in the past few decades. The scenario of highly penetrated renewables is going to be further enhanced. This requires that the production, distribution and use of the energy should be as technological efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end-user should also be strengthened. In order to realize the transition smoothly and effectively, energy conversion systems, currently based on power electronics technology, will again play an essential role. Using highly efficient power electronics in power generation, power transmission/distribution and end-user application, together with advanced control solutions, can pave the way for renewable energies. In view of this, some of the most emerging renewable energies, e.g. wind energy and photovoltaic, which by means of power electronics are changing character as a major part in the electricity generation, are explored in this paper. Issues like technology development, implementation, power converter technologies, control of the systems, and synchronization are addressed. Special focuses are paid on the future trends in power electronics for those systems.

Abstract:It reviews the evolution of various power electronic semiconductor devices related to the high power convertion technology. IGBT, IGCT, IEGT, MTO, and SIC power devices extended applied in industries and their features are introduced. It outlines the basic circuit topologies used for high power convertion, such as the three-level voltage-source converter, the cascaded H-bridge multi-level converter, and the matrix converter etc. Based on the practical applications in the industrial variable speed system, in the railway traction system, and in the highway traction system, some novel application examples are discribed. Some key technologies expected to be advanced within next 10 years in this field are discussed, and the evolutive trends needed to pay special attentions are proposed.

Abstract:The markedly increased integration of renewable energy in the power grid is of significance in the transition to a sustainable energy future. The grid integration of renewables will be continuously enhanced in the future. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), renewable technology is the main pathway to reach zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2060. Power electronics have played and will continue to play a significant role in this energy transition by providing efficient electrical energy conversion, distribution, transmission, and utilization. Consequently, the development of power electronics technologies, i.e., new semiconductor devices, flexible converters, and advanced control schemes, is promoted extensively across the globe. Among various renewables, wind energy and photovoltaic (PV) are the most widely used, and accordingly these are explored in this paper to demonstrate the role of power electronics. The development of renewable energies and the demands of power electronics are reviewed first. Then, the power conversion and control technologies as well as grid codes for wind and PV systems are discussed. Future trends in terms of power semiconductors, reliability, advanced control, grid-forming operation, and security issues for largescale grid integration of renewables, and intelligent and full user engagement are presented at the end.

Abstract:The intension and extension of power electronics are inquired through tracing back to the origin and definition of power electronics, and the future trends of power electronics are further discussed in this paper. The development sequence of power electronics, the difference and relationship of micro-electronics and power-electronics, and the substantial change to electromagnetic energy conversion due to power electronics are all analyzed in order to be understood well. Based on the analysis and discussion, a reconsideration on power electronics is proposed in this paper in order to establish a clearer background and more reasonable platform for the modeling, analysis, design and control of power electronic system.

Abstract:Data centers consume about 2% of the world’s electricity with continuing growth. The power supply system plays a significant role in the energy saving and decarbonization of data centers. The development of power electronics brings opportunities for more efficient and reliable data centers. This article presents an overview of the data center power supply system covering the power delivery path from the grid edge to onboard point-of-load (PoL) conversion. The system architectures are introduced at first with the discussion on efficiency and reliably. The power conversion stages of data center power supply system are discussed as ac–dc conversions and dc–dc conversions. The state-of-the-art techniques in topology, control, and device are investigated. This article is an attempt to provide an overview for high-performance data center power supply system design.
