Abstract:The optimization of blast furnace ironmaking process will bring great economic and ecological benefit. However, due to the complicated industry environments and limits on production situations, conventional optimization methods have the difficulty to obtain optimal performance indexes. To optimize conflicting objectives of blast furnace, production quality and energy consumption, an improved optimization method based on robust soft sensor and process knowledge is proposed. This method firstly develops a robust performance index soft sensor based on the gated recurrent unit and huber loss function, which can capture the dynamics of blast furnace data and predict the points with huge fluctuation more accurately. Meanwhile, for the sake of improving the optimization efficiency, a process knowledge base is constructed to mine the knowledge of optimal cases. It is the basis of the innovative knowledge repair operator, which is embedded with the optimization algorithm to reduce the infeasible solutions in the primary population evolution and accelerate the convergence speed. Comprehensive experiments are performed in the blast furnace ironmaking process by means of the AICS platform of Alibaba cloud, resulting in the improvement of robust prediction performance and optimization convergence compared with other widely-used methods and a successful meet with industry demands of blast furnace process.

Abstract:The blast furnaces of Anshan Iron and Steel have completed large-scale modernization, and a large amount of information technology has been popularized and applied to the process of blast furnaces. This paper takes the Anshan Iron and Steel blast furnace group as the research background. Based on big data and industrial Internet technology, combining the smelting process mechanism of blast furnace production and using artificial intelligence, cloud analysis, and other technologies, the data management platform was used to effectively integrate the data of each process of the blast furnace and design the data asset catalogue. The big data application platform for the intensive control of the blast furnace was established. The data were in multidimensional in-depth mining, and the intelligent application model of the blast furnace was established. The visual intelligent monitoring of the safe production and operation of the blast furnace was realized, and the production operation of the blast furnace was guided. The overall information and intelligent level of production operation and management of the blast furnace have been improved.

Abstract:Blast furnaces are the most crucial equipment in ironmaking processes. Stable operation of the blast furnace is a prerequisite for personnel safety and production efficiency. Therefore, early detection of abnormalities in blast furnaces is an important task for ironmaking processes. However, owing to the large fluctuations in the quality of raw materials, dynamic operating conditions, as well as the impact of the hot blast stoves switches, the measurements of blast furnace show severe nonstationary characteristics. All these factors make monitoring the blast furnace a challenging task. In this article, a nonstationary process monitoring method called consistent trend feature analysis (CTFA) is proposed, which can extract the trend-related features and discard perturbations in process data. The directions and amplitudes of the extracted trends are used for abnormality detection, and a local-learning-based method is proposed for determining a time-varying control limit. The detection performance of the proposed method is analyzed, with a sufficient condition and a necessary condition for the detectability given. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by the practical data collected from a large-scale blast furnace located in Liuzhou, China.

Abstract:Addressing the complexity and isolation of the blast furnace, field engineers generally operate the system according to their former experience. While stability and safety are the first priority, it is natural to see extra consumption of ores and fuels. Over the recent years, researchers have been searching for the optimal operation point within the blast furnace by mathematical methods that include mechanism and data-driven modeling. The reported models have seldom succeeded in offering proper operation parameters to optimize several goals at the same time, as the factors of the blast furnace are highly correlative, which cannot be analyzed separately. In order to get the conflicting targets such as the lowest production cost and coke ratio as well as the highest iron quality, a multi-objective optimization model for the blast furnace based on BP neural network and genetic algorithm is proposed. The model is basically constructed on two theories. One is the BP neural network which can provide a mapping rule for multiple inputs and multiple outputs, the other is the genetic algorithm whose core contents are NSGA-II algorithm and Pareto optimality that are fit for the multi-objective optimization goal. By optimizing the blast furnace system with this model, the plant is feasible to keep the iron making process efficient and stable simultaneously.

Abstract:During blast furnace (BF) ironmaking, hot metal quality and energy consumption directly affect industrial economic benefits. Field engineers usually adjust the production state based on their experience, which makes control optimization uncertain. A data and knowledge-based optimization framework for BF operation performance indicators is proposed in this paper. Firstly, design the Attention Long Short Term Memory (Attention-LSTM) neural network to predict the Silicon content and coke ratio, which is used as fitness value function of the multi-objective optimization model. To initialize the population, knowledge based non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (KB-NSGA) uses a knowledge base of historical optimal solutions. Finally, an optimization solution set that meets the actual production requirements is obtained using the TOPSIS evaluation method. The KB-NSGA successfully achieves the goal compared with other genetic algorithms. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by long-term running experiments.

Abstract:The blast furnace ironmaking process is the core of steel manufacturing, and the optimization of this process can bring enormous economic and environmental benefits. However, previous data-driven optimization methods neglect the uncontrollability of part of the variables in the predictive modeling process, which brings great uncertainty to the optimization results and adversely affects the optimization effect. To address this problem, a consistency optimization framework based on controllability assurance soft sensor modeling is proposed. The method achieves the information extraction of uncontrollable variables in a process-supervised way, and improves the posterior distribution prediction accuracy. The method also proposes an integrated self-encoder regression module, which uses the regression to guide the encoding, realize the construction of latent features, and further improve the prediction accuracy of the model. Integrating the prediction module and the multi-objective gray wolf optimizer, the proposed model achieves the optimization of the blast furnace ironmaking process with only controllable variables as prediction model inputs while being capable of giving uncertainty estimates of the solutions. Empirical data validated the optimization model and demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:A multi-model integrated expert system was proposed to achieve the optimum control for blast furnace ironmaking process.The expert system is an integration of automatic control models,e.g.mechanism model,automatic fault diagnosis model,system optimization model,hybrid dynamic mechanism and intelligent control equation.On basis of ensuring the smooth operation of the ironmaking process,the expert system optimizes several critical model parameters.The nonlinearity of energy consumption was revealed from analysis of the hybrid dynamic mechanism of the ironmaking process,and the optimal state of process variables for different productive objective was obtained.The practical conditions were accurately predicted and different control measures were also proposed.Thus the technological goals of saving energy and increasing output were achieved.

Abstract:In order to predict the production process of complicated nonlinear blast furnace(BF),the intelligent mixed multi-variable predictive models are proposed.The prediction strategy including two parts is used: the models reflecting different working conditions are established by adopting the support vector machine(SVM) in offline part.Then fuzzy reasoning is employed to train and derive the weight of every model,multiplying those weights by the corresponding models gives the actual prediction output.And the online correction is called to adjust those weights to optimize the prediction system.The intelligent mixed prediction model has been successfully applied and validated in several real-life iron-making scenarios and clearly demonstrates its effectiveness for silicon content prediction in the BF with the less time consumption and the robustness to the change of working conditions.

Abstract:This paper introduces a new intelligent control method for Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steelmaking dynamic process, by combining Neural Network, Fuzzy Inference, Expert System with dynamic process control method of BOF steelmaking. The control system is composed of the preset model of the dynamic requirement for oxygen blowing and coolant adding, bath [C] and temperature prediction model, and judgment Expert System for blowing-stop. The control method of BOF steelmaking process has been successfully applied in some steelmaking plants and improves the bath Hit Ratio (HR) significantly. It shows that the method is effective.

Abstract:Blast furnace iron making is a complex industrial system involving control of multi-subsystems. The ultimate objective is to design a closed loop controller to maintain silicon content in hot metal at an appropriate level. Considering the interaction of the subsystems, a hierarchical model structure is proposed which includes 4 levels of models, e.g., mechanism model based on chaotic kinetics, inferential model based on fuzzy method, optimization models for operating variables and model predictive control method for silicon content in hot metal. This model structure takes all aspects of iron making process into account and provides a theoretical framework for closed loop control of blast furnace iron making.

By collecting a large amount of field data, the isolated point removal strategy of isolated point is introduced to carry out preprocessing, and the semi-supervised clustering algorithm is adopted to optimize the combustion control process of the blast furnace. This method has been verified by experiments, compared with the traditional data preprocessing strategy, the energy saving effect is obvious.

Abstract:The complexity of blast furnace iron-making process control can be interpreted from two aspects. From the aspect of technique, it is composed of status diagnosis of blast furnace, predictive control of silicon content and an organic combination of them. From the aspect of control theory, it is no longer the traditional direct feedback control, but intelligent control based on inferrence and optimization computation. Hence to better control blast furnace iron-making process, it is much necessary to explore new theory and techniques. The multi-level mathematical model structure discussed here includes mechanism model of hybrid dynamics, inferrencial model for status diagnosis, mathematical model of system optimization, predictive control equation of silicon content and an intelligent hierarchical integration of the 4 classes of models. With this kind of model structure, the closed-loop intelligent control of blast furnace iron-making process can be achieved.

It can monitor all technological parameters and distribute mathematical models and management software to perform on-line parameter calculation, system optimization analysis, production statistics and cost management, so that the technological-economical indexes of the blast furnace are obviously improved.

Abstract:Blast furnace (BF) ironmaking is the most typical "black box" process, and its complexity and uncertainty bring forth great challenges for furnace condition judgment and BF operation. Rich data resources for BF ironmaking are available, and the rapid development of data science and intelligent technology will provide an effective means to solve the uncertainty problem in the BF ironmaking process. This work focused on the application of artificial intelligence technology in BF ironmaking. The current intelligent BF ironmaking technology was summarized and analyzed from five aspects. These aspects include BF data management, the analyses of time delay and correlation, the prediction of BF key variables, the evaluation of BF status, and the multi-objective intelligent optimization of BF operations. Solutions and suggestions were offered for the problems in the current progress, and some outlooks for future prospects and technological breakthroughs were added. To effectively improve the BF data quality, we comprehensively considered the data problems and the characteristics of algorithms and selected the data processing method scientifically. For analyzing important BF characteristics, the effect of the delay was eliminated to ensure an accurate logical relationship between the BF parameters and economic indicators. As for BF parameter prediction and BF status evaluation, a BF intelligence model that integrates data information and process mechanism was built to effectively achieve the accurate prediction of BF key indexes and the scientific evaluation of BF status. During the optimization of BF parameters, low risk, low cost, and high return were used as the optimization criteria, and while pursuing the optimization effect, the feasibility and site operation cost were considered comprehensively. This work will help increase the process operator's overall awareness and understanding of intelligent BF technology. Additionally, combining big data technology with the process will improve the practicality of data models in actual production and promote the application of intelligent technology in BF ironmaking.

Abstract:This paper takes the iron-making blast furnace in operation of a steel plant as the specific object, analyzes the erosion status and characteristics of different parts of the furnace hearth and bottom combined with iron-making process and erosion mechanism of the blast furnace, designs an intelligent monitoring system for erosion of the furnace hearth lining, visualizes the temperature measurement data. The erosion calculation model is established by using the heat transfer mechanism to quickly solve the erosion boundary for the area with low erosion degree and rate, and performs a fast solution of the erosion boundary. For areas with high erosion degree and rate, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is selected by using its adaptive characteristics. It solves the erosion boundary accurately from the rough solution of the mechanism model, and the residual thickness of furnace lining is output and displayed, which helps ironmakers optimize the blast furnace production operation, maintenance strategy, improve production efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

Abstract:In consideration of the current adverse situation of iron and steel industry in China,decreasing the fuel consumption in iron and steel production has become an urgent task. Therefore,12 coals for practical blast furnace injection were selected in this research and the heat consumption of different chemical phases in com-bustion reaction of coal was analyzed. Consequently,the effective heat of pulverized coal produced by its com-bustion in blast furnace was calculated according to the basic parameters of coals,by which a scientific method for the evaluation of blast furnace injected coal was invented.

Abstract:A new iron-making and power generation process, integrating blast furnace and combined cycle (IBFCC) is proposed based on blast furnace's advantages in conversion and desulphurization as well as the tendency of increasing pulverized coal injection. The IBFCC process can increase the energy utilization efficiency obviously by cascade usage energy and decrease the emission of pollutants significantly comparing with traditional iron-making and power generation process.
